ok,one week to go and things are hoting up.
n/s this week will bring some changes to the make up of the 4
b/op to finish strongly over kew
ormond to sour caulfields final hopes
brunswick to really help shape the 4 over preston
balwyn to make the 4 over coburg
malvern to consolidate top spot over ivanhoe
moorabbin to win but still miss out after a improving year
so my 2 cents worth for the top 4 will be malvern ,brunswick.balwyn and preston
and the west might finishlong the lines of willi.box hill ,mt., oak unless some more convenient outrights are achieved....
what do u think piston

bucket head!
i aint piston but you must have a head for a bucket
how could anyone get an outright in a one dayer?
west group top 4 is decided champ

Re: subbies season 07/08

Looking at the last round in the East/West 2s.

Oakleigh to beat Mt Wav at home pretty easily.
Willi over Wbee in a game that is for fourth spot. Wbee have been improving but we have proved ourselves over and over again also havent lost a 1dayer this year and its at home so will back us in.
Melton to beat Sunshine in a nothing game.
Croydon to beat Noble Park at home.
Endeavour in a close one over Bayswater to sew up top spot.
Box Hill to book a top 4 spot over Broady.
Altona to do the same against the very disappointing Yarraville.

Re: subbies season 07/08

This is how i see the 4 ending up in the 2s.

Endeavour Hills
Altona
Box Hill
Williamstown

Endeavour are going in with a rich vain of form. They have scored very big in the last few rounds and there batting looks unstoppable.

Altona were looking good mid season but are in the middle of a slump and are going in with the worst form.

Box Hill have been the quiet achievors and look well placed if my tips are correct.

Williamstown will have just scrapped in after being in the 4 nearly all year. Form not bad but not great.

This is just my prediction. Good luck to all teams in the last 1 dayer and then for finals.

Re: subbies season 07/08

Back on air lads, been up the bush for a couple of weeks, just catching up with the scores now.
Final 4 settled in E/W Bucket,no outrights in 1 dayers mate, interesting story on 2 poms to Willy?,long way from the outer east to the seaside but we'll see if anything eventuates.
Quick look back at last weeks main games;Oaks getting an outright over End Hills,Box Hill likewise over Altona with A.Blake getting 10/58 for the match.
Melton too good for Werribee who now miss out due to those outrights going against them,Willy smashed by the Mounties in a game probably decided by the toss.Croydon,Yarraville and Bayswater the other winners,Broady continued their post Xmas debacle with another loss.
This week even with the 4 settled there can still be some movement in positions,Willy need to beat Werribee to hold top spot presuming Box Hill win at Broady and Oakleigh play Mt Waverley to see who finishes 3rd and 4th.
,Will have a full preview of the semis when the picture becomes clearer plus a post mortem of all other sides who missed out.
Good luck to all in both sections for this final round.

Re: subbies season 07/08

Down to the business end boys! Two top semis this week, looks like warm weather ahead, better than being wet I suppose.
Box Hill v Oakleigh at BH 12.30 start,The Hillmen go in as faves after pinching top from Willy, much might depend on the toss, whoever bats 1st could have a big advantage, runs on the board in finals very important.
Both sides have excellent attacks with Box Hill's batting more solid
If the Oaks are to win I reckon they'll have to bat 1st and post 200 but will stick to the Hillmen to get the cash.
Willy v Mt Waverley at Willy 12.30 start,The Mounties will go into this one full of confidence after easily accounting for the Seagulls in Round 12,Willy must be worried about their recent slump, maybe injuries to a few key players have taken their toll.Much will depend on the make up of their side especially Drain who gives them a more solid look at the top of the order.
Once again whoever wins toss could well win the game but will stick with Willy to set up a replay of last years championship final.
Bucket Head, how about your side?,for the record I'll tip Caulfield over the Wicks and Malvern in a cliffhanger over Bops.

Re: subbies season 07/08

My thoughts on the finals
nth/sth
malvern v bop
although not at peak form i expect the 5 or 6 money men to come to the fore ,although not discounting dale ,ayres ,harro and co to snatch this one...malvern for me though
caulfield v brunswick
two sides limping in to the finals, both attacks in my opinion only just capable of inflicting any real pain if they get through to the big one.both sides top 4 the key, have to say hewitt, haviland, lawrence and richo better than hopkins and co...caulfield just
east/west
willy v mt
after beating willy 2 games ago you might think mt. deserve to be favorites ,but no damp wicket this week gents and mt.s lack of bowling might be found out expect mt . to pile them up if batting first though
my only question being whos better ferguson and co. or sheedys boys
willy for me
box hill v oak
box hills line up way to strong in both forms of the game, with the blakes to get the fair share of the wickets to fall, unless jt and ensil pile on plenty
the hills easy
MY THOUGHTS ONLY.

Re: subbies season 07/08

Looking at the 2 semi finals in the 2nds:
1st place Altona take on 4th placed Werribee at Grant Reserve and i will tip Altona to get over the line. I think Werribee's bowling attack lacks a bit especially on a good deck which will be produced at Altona. That might sound strange after they rolled us for 97 last week but the pitch was playing lots of tricks but full credit to them they handled the conditions a lot better than us and deserved to play this week instead of us we weren't up for the challenge last week.

2nd semi is 2nd placed Box Hill playing 3rd placed Endeavour Hills which will be played at Endeavour Hills because of Box Hill's 1s playing at Box Hill City Oval. In this one i will tip Endeavour at home with there very strong batting line up to make too many runs for the very good Box Hill side but it will go down to the wire.

Good luck to everyone playing in the finals.

Re: subbies season 07/08

nth sth review
think most sides that miss out ride on the coat tails of too few
moorabin unluky ,1 side that has some good players but rely too much on the pro and lack 1 bowler
balwyn, another unlucky side but rely too heavily on harper and joyce to score their runs, like most could do with another bowler
preston, need to inject some life to make browny smile a bit more, not far off
ivanhoe ,might be on the way down and rely on stacky cole and the twirler too much
brighton and elsty need to rebuild although macmahon can play a bit
kingston play like they are still st.bedes ,way too social
coburg should be a lot better with the list they have
and kew and ormond will be better off because of the youth they are playing, beshara a fair player for the monders
just my thoughts ,but im sure some one will pick some holes in it

Re: subbies season 07/08

Thought I might have a quick post mortem on the sides who missed the top four remembering it's bloody difficult to make it in a field of 14.
Werribee 5th on 49-bit stiff to miss out after Oakleighs outright in round 12,but a most improved effort, much will depend on whether outstanding youngsters like Chadwick and Dean stay for another season before moving on.
Melton 6th on 48-tipsters nightmare, hard to follow form, next year could be interesting, will Harwood be there,if so where would Pritchard go?
Altona 7th on 46-Talented side on paper, maybe didn't get as much out of themselves as they could have.Wolfe's had 2 years now and not getting any younger,Mcfarlane could call it a day, will Boglis continue or try his hand at Premier level, who knows?
Bayswater 8th on 42-good,solid side who had ok year, not far off a finals side with maybe 1 or 2 newies.
Broady 9th on 37-started like a house on fire but dont think won a game after xmas, relied on the cc,Goodwin too much[must have taken over 40 wickets],still a lot of young players who should take a bit out of the season and could challenge next year.
End Hills 10th on 33-with such a huge young area could improve rapidly but could maybe do with a bit more discipline?
Noble Park 11th on 30-disappointing effort from a club with everything laid on for them, have strong tip they will be in Premier ranks sooner rather than later and Premier honchos are falling over themselves to get them.
Croydon 12th on 24-another young side who showed improvement and should keep getting better next year.
Yarraville 13th on 21-poor season not helped by ground interruption, not sure where they go from here, maybe need a solid recruiting campaign for08/09.
Sunshine 14th on 6-perennial cellar dwellers who only won 1 game, need a massive overhaul asap or their place in the comp could come into question, really hope they can succeed and be at least competitive again.
\Clubs can turn it around very quickly with the addition of 1 or 2 quality players so the market place might be very busy very soon.
All the best to all.

Hey Bucket, what's the go with that Kingston Saints mob,is that the poxiest ground/wicket you've ever seen, makes me wonder how they got admitted in the 1st place.Anyone else played there??

Re: subbies season 07/08

Following the trend i might as well do a season in review for the 2s.

5th-Oakleigh: Very good side and very unlucky to miss the finals. Lot of good young kids down there, showd by them going well in the hatch competition, keep a look out for young Laughlan Mason who debuted in the 1s this year at the tender age of 14 after a couple of 50's in the 2s. The oak's to improve next yr.

6th- Williamstown: Disappointing year in the end for us, were in the 4 nearly the whole year but lost to all the sides in the 4 except Box Hill who we drew with. Had a good mix of experience and youth but are lacking in the 18-26 age bracket. But some very talented kids to come through the 2s next yr so i think we can definetly challenge for the 4 come next yr. Tony Freeman a great yr for us with 1 100 and 4 50's making close to 500 runs.

7th- Yarraville: A great year for Yarraville just got a bit tired towards the end of the year. Good young players such as Papac and Cummings i expect those players to push into the 1s next yr and therefore other players to come back so Yarraville to be strong again next year.

8th- Croydon: Disappointing year for Croydon. Had a better side than 8th place. Great players in their side at times such as Ronan and Lovell. Matt Fyfe probaly there best young kid, good technique with the bat and turns the ball square with his offies.

9th- Noble Park: Very old side and were lucky to get to 9th. Only see this team going backwards. No real talent in my opinion.

10th- Melton: With the talent in the side i think they under performed. Very talented youngsters such as Merlo Wilson and Kight with a good blend of experience they really should have been vying for a finals spot.

11th- Mt Waverley: Far to old side. No realy young talent in their side. A very disiplined side but didn't seem to be pushing the kids through. Cant see them being any better next yr.

12th- Bayswater: Cant believe they finished so low. I thought this mob were a strong side. With some very good young quickies and some very dangerous players in their batting line up. Dont know what happened.

13th- Broadmedows- ******** side with a ******** attitude. Not going to go anywhere with 35 yr old hacks and a very poor attitude.

14th- Sunshine: Exactly the same thing as i said about Broady. There is a reason why these type of sides and clubs always end up on the bottom of ladders and there is always a reason and it is there discipline and attitude.

In my review i might have seem to concentrate to much on pushing the kids through the ranks and looking at the young talent in each side but being a kid myself i think it is very important that clubs push the youngster's through and give them the experience because they are the future of the clubs.

Re: subbies season 07/08

On that basis re Sunshine, how did Endeavour Hills get into Subbies?

Players don't want to train and play 1s. The 2nds are like a junior club (the top five bats bowl and numbers 8 and 9 don't), the ground is a joke and is there a committee.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is a mass exodus.

In terms of East/West, I reckon that the bookies would have the four teams in the following order:

Box Hill
Mount
Oakleigh
Williamstown (odds for all to be determined).

Will any of these sides beat Malvern?

Re: subbies season 07/08

As they say, cricket's a funny game, anyone can beat anyone else on a given day, last year from memory Willy were the outsiders, just scraped in,then took off the title.
a couple of years go Noble Park won the championship after finishing 5th or 6th,would not have even made it except for the short lived intro of a final 6.
Oakleigh could easily emulate those feats now,and Malvern are no certainties of even winning this week,Bops so nearly beat them round 12.
In short, there's 8 teams left and all have a chance.
If i were a betting man perhaps the odds might be something like;
Box Hill 3/1
Malvern 3/1
Willy 4/1
Caulfield5/1
Bops 6/1
Mt Waverley 6/1
Oakleigh 8/1
Brunswick 8/1

a couple of years go Noble Park won the championship after finishing 5th or 6th,would not have even made it except for the short lived intro of a final 6.
Oakleigh could easily emulate those feats now,and Malvern are no certainties of even winning this week,Bops so nearly beat them round 12.
In short, there's 8 teams left and all have a chance.
If i were a betting man perhaps the odds might be something like;
Box Hill 3/1
Malvern 3/1
Willy 4/1
Caulfield5/1
Bops 6/1
Mt Waverley 6/1
Oakleigh 8/1
Brunswick 8/1

Good odds on Willi there.
Few key players back this week, ready to go the boys.

Re: subbies season 07/08

Big games in the 2's . Malvern easily over Moorabbin. BOP vs Brighton too close to call. 4 new players at Brighton since Xmas will make this more even than ladder positions suggest.
