Re: Victorian Premier Cricket 09/10

The club doesn't want to leave Monash. Jones wanted to move the club to central reserve because his relationship with the University was beyond repair. The members voted to stay and voted in a new committee and president.

It was as plain as day that cricketers the status of Dart and Spoljaric were not just playing for the love of the game and the club - why it could take all year for CV to investigate this is beyond me.

What an absolute joke, this club is a disgrace. The rules are there for everyone to abide by and they have shown blatant disregard for them.

A couple of years of pain and suffering at the minimum, here's to a year at the bottom of the ladder for this disgraceful conduct.
That's a bit harsh mate, don't blame the club. Blame the incompetant knob brain who was in charge!!

Re: Victorian Premier Cricket 09/10

Fitz/Donc attack will B strenghtened nicely this season with new recruits Darren Kimberley(ex Hawk) and Steve Duckworth(ex Foots.) thrown in the Lions mix

Re: Victorian Premier Cricket 09/10

Under the impression that the only reason that HMU got pinged for it is because they had to open their books up to Cricket Victoria after their enormous loss ($140 000+)

fair point that...although what about premiership St.Kilda superstar lineup which has dominated this decade of premier cricket when you look at the players they had with the fab.5 at the top of the order: Jewell, Craig, Klinger, Quiney and Rummans...tell me that they aren't worth a $..

Re: Victorian Premier Cricket 09/10

From what I heard the members had 2 options. Either take the debt to central reserve with Jones as President and go it alone OR stay at monash, open the books up, find out what was really going on and vote in a brand new administration. Obviously the later happened. Not having pros for the next three years won't be an issue - they can't afford them anyway!

Throughout their time at the top, a few of those players were always on Victorian contracts, which meant that they weren't really looking to get any money out of the club.

Re: Victorian Premier Cricket 09/10

True, BD.

Although there were some Victorian contracted players that were professional players at their clubs last season.

From what I know the new leadership at HMUCC was happy to open the books to show just how much Jones had stuffed the club.

CV and other clubs should have been suspicious, and the club should have been investigated sooner, when Dart and Spoljaric are in the team as amateurs. Spoljaric has never worked a full day in his life from the story going around.
Every player at the club was suspicious that people were being paid under the table.

HMU will be alright in a few years. Get some ex players back into the fold and bring in some fresh people to the club that just want to play cricket.
They've gotten rid of Jones which is a great start to getting back on track.

Of the five contracted players who were paid by clubs, four of them were interstate players who tend to be in a position where clubs have to pay them to recruit them (Wade, Rogers, Hastings, Wright), and the other one, Jewell, is a cornerstone of a changing of the guard down there.

"A cornerstone of the changing of the guard?" give me a break, he's not the messiah!

What is it with these Jones's. No shortage of arrogance in this family

most of these blokes were down there for premierships and to play for victoria (much like u need to play for nsw before u play for australia).

its their bowling attack that prob got the mysterious cash i reckon haha, they kept pretty much the same line up for years! spent so much cash had to money to invest in a proper 1 day uniform design hahaha

Re: Victorian Premier Cricket 09/10

News from country round this season is that the Cats will play against the demons at the "G".

Geelong was approached by cricket victoria and with the crying they did after last years country round because of the state of the pitch, they jumped at the idea.

Should be good as they will be playing in front of about 20 people!!!

Re: Victorian Premier Cricket 09/10

Personally I think all this talk about Hawthorn going to struggle for the next x amount of seasons is all rubbish. You can look at the clubs like Melbourne Uni, Camberwell, Northcote and Prahran. They have no so-called marquee players or superstars yet manage to perfrom most seasons. These above clubs play as a team and that wins games. Its not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog. Hawthorn where all individuals last season. It was impossible to play as a team with all those ego's! With all the new faces at Hawthorn and the improved attitudes the club will be a better place.

Yes they have lost the likes of spoljaric, dart and silence. However, Dart did ************ all on and off the field last year. Yes spoljaric got a heap of wickets but i think anyone could if they bowled 10,000 overs a season.
Silence will be a loss, he was good for the club on and off the field, and a true professional.

The good news is that quality players have returned to the club. Hewatt and Miller will be big bonuses this season and should add 60odd wickets between them and are both very handy with the willow.

Add Hoogenboom and Bird to the bowling stocks and the attack looks quite dangerous. Cookson is a good keeper, and handy down the order with the bat and can always add valuable runs.

Karegorgiou proved he is good enough last season and has a good chance of making the Vic under 19's this season. Tormey needs a big season, he struggling after returning from the under 19 nationals last season where he topped the scoring. Still yet to prove himself at District First Grade though.

The club has a lot of young players coming through, the likes of Henry, Pham, Boxell, Ivetic and Hillyer are all improving game by game and are proving themselves coming through the ranks. With Pham playing first grade last season and looked comfortable. A lot will rely on the more mature heads that have been around for a few seasons. The likes of Dragwidge, Slack, Sampson, Kapoor and the new faces of Brooks, Brown, Gunawardana etc will help improve the club.

Training has already been better this season than it has the past 2 or 3 seasons. More people training and commiting to the club. Everyone at the club is looking forward to starting the season and proving all the doubters wrong...
