Victorian Premier Cricket - 2010/11

Well, even though everyone wants to get out on the park, I'm sure once the rains came last Saturday that a few clubs breathed a huge sigh of relief as their unwinnable positions were turned on its head for a draw. Yes, no points but not losing ground to other teams around them was the talk of the training track this week.

So, on to Round 7. The standout game is over at the abattoirs where Footscray Edgewater hosts their highway rivals in Geelong. The visitors are favourite although it's rumored that the home side may have a new recruit or two to unleash on their unsuspecting visitors. Other matches of interest are St Kilda hosting Ringwood, assuming the Junction Oval is back in service, and Melbourne welcoming Fitzroy Doncaster.

Melbourne (2-2-1) vs. Firzroy Doncaster (2-1-2)
Richmond (1-1-3) vs. North Melbourne (0-2-3)

Sandri has ended up at North Melbourne.
Not much of a surprise there, the MOS connection still apparent.

Big game between the Rams and the Saints, the Rams have thrown a few of the blokes who they've given a taste of the top grade in their side and given them the opportunities (Dehmel, Holland, Coughlan), and it'll be interesting to see how they fare against the Sainters' pace attack.

Sandri didn't take long to change ships to North with the O'Sullivan connection. Hamilton-Brown another handy pick up for the dogs, another big score and neither of the Dean's have fired a shot yet so good signs for them.

Alex Keath has had the best week of his life with the ton for Melbourne, then the 192 in the futures league being backed up by selection for the Shield Game this weekend. Good on him, hope he goes well.

Keat ends up being 12th man. Bit stiff, but with McDonald out I think the Vics wanted the extra bowling of Sheridan. Carters would have to be a bit disappointed not to have gotten a game so far this year, done more with the stick than Sheridan, and now Keath overtakes him with a super week.

I believe Jayde Herrick's had a sojourn over the New Zealand to play some First Class cricket there; is that a permanent move?

Herrick has match figures of 6-150 off 50 overs so far in the match for Wellington. If he keeps taking wickets then it may be permanent. They do rate Keath very highly so they are trying to get him to play first class cricket as soon as possible. Carters can bat and would be a bit stiff but the bowling of Keath would get the nod in the selectors eyes

Steady rain forecast to next Friday at least, putting next weekend's Saturday/Sunday round in jeopardy (not to mention tomorrow which looks a certainty to be washed out).
Given the lack of matches so far, how many wins could you sneak into the finals with?

Well, yet another round this season effected by the weather. And while the weather has been the winner, the other lucky winner is Dandenong who covered the Hawthorn Monash University score last week for the six points to put them well clear. Probably the unluckiest sides would have been Prahran who would have easily stopped Essendon getting that big score and Northcote who you would have thought would have easily chased down the Camberwell Magpies total. A number of other games were certainly in the balance come nightfall last Saturday.

So, it looks like from now on every win will be vital to secure a finals berth, with the Twenty20 matches throwing some curve balls into the mix.
