We aren't that bad as a One day side but...
Just responding to all the criticism the Aussie One Day Side is getting. I don't think we are as bad as we are being made out to be. We are at a stage where we are seeing who is good enough to be in the side and we have a lot of passengers lately that need to be dropped off. We have some problems and they are:
As a team: We have batted too slow!!! we haven't bowled well with the new ball, we haven't moved the ball or swung it and bowled in good areas. We lack a quality spinner since Warne and Hogg. We have lacked fast scoring batsmen and let SA bowlers dictate the game. We have fielded poorly dropping catches and missing runouts.
Hilfenhaus hasn't quite performed as a swing bowler, he bowls a fraction too short with the new ball and needs to become more accurate. Needs to work on a better yorker. He has the ability but really needs to work very hard on his bowling to get consistancy and accuracy.
Bracken has been injured and looked about 90% when he did play.
Mike Hussey has been a passenger and very out of form.
Ponting has been ok but well below his best.
Warner has been a breath of fresh air and the batsman we need, he needs to find a game that suits him to get some consistancy. Perhaps needs to play straight until he is in before playing accross the line.
Marsh has suprised by batting quite well and looks alright up the top of the order.
Clarke was coming into form but has been hit by injuries.
Krajzer they believe gives away too many runs but he must be tried. He can take wickets and only has to make small improvements to improve his economy.
Hauritz was not played enough. You need a spinner to be the best in the world and Australia of all teams should know that with the success of Warne and Hogg and South Africa's Botha.
Dave Hussey might have the best behind him but needs to hurry the scoring along.
Haddin is far from the worlds top keepers, has limited shots which makes it easy to cut off his scoring and get him out under pressure. Maby Ronchi if he has success in the middle order for WA would be a better option. should be used with the batting power play when he is in unless Warner is there. His footwork as a keeper needs work. Too heavy/flat footed.
Johnson is not a good one day bowler, too expencive.
Tait is not up to it, his speed is too inconsistant. If he bowled around 155KM/H he would be but he bowls 10KM/H slower than that and it's not worth having him on that because pace is all he has.
Cameron White is an ok batsmen, not a bowler. Has improved as a batsmen and can hit boundries which is a plus.
Hopes is just an honest toiler. Not a great hitter which would be needed at the lower order and his bowling is nothing to get excited about.
Who has been out:
Symonds - Hasn't made runs all year and doesn't appear to "want it" enough but is a rare talent. One of the great ODI all rounders.
Watson - Is a handy all rounder in ODI cricket and just needs luck with injuries.
Clarke - has had a bad run with injuries.
Clark - not really a great ODI bowler but is handy.
Jaques - His injury was terrible for Australian cricket, fast scoring opening bat, just what we need.
Bracken - When fit is the worlds best ODI bowler but has been below his best and out injured.
Lee - Has been very good but latly has been ordinary and it looks like he might be finished.
Who maby should be played:
Hughes - Very good young opening batsmen.
Hodge - Currently injured (Hamstring) but strikes the ball so well and is on very good form both with average and strike rate. An authodox big hitter.
Siddle - Is becoming the best seam bowler in the country, aspiring to take McGrath's role.
Krajzer - we need a REAL wicket taking spinner if we want to retain the world cup.
Bollinger - good swing bowler who can also move it off the seam.
Current side:
1.Marsh
2.Warner
3.Ponting
4.M. Hussey
5.D. Hussey
6.Haddin
7.Hopes
8.White
9.Johnson
10.Hilfenhaus
11.Tait
Probable best side
1.Hughes - earnt this spot and can score fast.
2.Jaques - earnt this spot and is a very fast scorer.
3.Warner - is the big hitter to win us games.
4.Ponting (c) - is Ponting.
5.Clarke (vc) - Auto selection and handy allrounder.
6.Watson - good ODI all rounder and can hit fast runs.
7.Haddin + - if someone else puts up their hand he might be under pressure.
8.Johnson - can bat as well but needs to bowl tighter and needs giving a go. Bollinger might earn a spot here if he fails.
9.Siddle - Becoming our best seamer, is aggressive and can bat.
10.Krajzer - looks like a genuine wicket taker, will improve, can bat.
11.Bracken - Best ODI bowler.
Out:
M. Hussey - out of form, not making runs and batting too slow. We have carried him latly.
D. Hussey - Same as above but has been more useful than Mike.
Hopes - Is not as good as Watson.
Symonds - Either terribly out of form or he's finished.
White - is a batsmen, not an allrounder and not as good as some others.
Marsh - unlucky but never made any ODD runs to earn his spot and has made some starts but hasn't gone on with it. Could play in another position in that 11.
Tait - Australias most annoying cricketer, dissapoints more than he impresses.
Hilfenhaus - did not play to his full potential and needs to work more on his bowling.
Probable current best side (Counting Injuries)
1.Hughes
2.Marsh
3.Warner
4.Ponting (c)
5.Clarke (vc)
6.Hopes
7.Haddin +
8.Johnson
9.Krajzer
10.Hilfenhaus
11.Bracken
