Thanks, Terry. I wrote down what I remembered vaguely and what I thought would fit the description as we went along and only checked it now after learning that it was what Craig had in mind. It turns out that there are a few discrepancies. The Hindenburg didn't crash in NY but in New Jersey, which I confused. And the date was not "June, 1937", as Craig wrote, but one month earlier, May, 1937.

I agree with you that Craig picked a good one that is worth remembering.

Sorry, I confused two events from memory. The other one was in the Barents Sea north of Europe but the one I have in mind happened in the Baltic Sea, clearly in Europe.
