Who's Better in Soccer/Football USA or Australia?

He was. For reasons known only to him, Bruce didn't use him.

As for the rest of you, I think you're completely underestimating the US. Unfortunately, we currently rely heavily on Landon Donovan, and we he has a bad game, so does the US. He was terrible for about 6 months this year. Even after the World Cup when he came back to MLS. But about a month later, he finally hit his groove again and is back in fine form, just a few months too late for it to matter for us.

Beasley has been crap for the past year. He was easily our worst player on the field in Germany. Mind-boggling that he was left out there for so long.

Yeah, we had a bad world cup, but lets not judge based on two weeks alone. One problem for the US is that we hardly ever got our full team together. It was always half in Europe, and half in the US, and rarely did we actually put our best XI on the field. We never took our exhibition matches seriously, and it finally caught up to us.

The latest word is that we're finally playing in the Copa America again next year. Hopefully we'll put our best players out there, take the competition seriously, and learn to play like a team again.

Re: Who's Better in Soccer/Football USA or Australia?

Oh yeah, and if South Africa falls through, we'll be hosting the World Cup in 2010, not Australia! :p

Re: Who's Better in Soccer/Football USA or Australia?

i really don't think South Africa is going to be able to pull it off (hosting the WC).

Ching and Twellman are good players. I think Ching should have been in our World Cup squad.

Twellman is ok, Ching is rubbish. And the trouble with Twellman is that he has a tendency to go missing against reasonable opposition.

The key to the USA is still Landon Donovan. He has all the tools but he's got no heart. If they could sort him out and find a "general-type" to replace Reyna they'd be ok.But as for the talent issue and who would win, at this point it would be Australia quite easily.

Even if it was a joke I still want to see where he got that from...... So that everyone else who doesn't get the joke can read about it.

That won't be good enough for Suzi.

-edit- Suzi, have you ever given any thought to developing a life outside internet posting forums?

[taking bait] mate, you want to discuss the merits of USA soccer and Australia then game on! i'll meet you over at the off topic/99.94 forum and i will gladly express how USA is BETTER than Austalia in soccer/football :D

Any red blooded Aussie males would not lower themselves to watch a bunch of Queens playing Soccer. I'm sure the average American would think likewise.
Australian Rules Football is the real game, and DON'T call it Rugby, that sport is as bad as Soccer.
So who the bloody hell cares who's better at it.

Re: Who's Better in Soccer/Football USA or Australia?

a friend of a friend just got back from like 6 months in SA, here is what he said (his opinions, not mine!):

friend of a friend said:
"Finally, the World Cup 2010 in South Africa. There's a pretty good chance it'll be a bloody disaster. People there are obsessed with it, but there's now a lot of fear even within the country that it'll get moved to Germany or the U.S. becasue S.A. isn't going to be ready. They don't really have any of the big stadia (solid plural) built or remodelled yet. In Cape Town, there's an ongoing legal battle with residents of Green Point (the neighborhood of the proposed stadium) about the construction plans being completely environmentally irresponsible. This is still being fought about, even though construction was already supposed to have started. I think if they get the stadium built, Cape Town is cosmopolitan enough to handle a big event like that, though. Johannesburg (and, to a lesser extent, Durban) is a freaking mess, though. The transportation there is almost non-existent. They have plans to build a subway system by 2010, but haven't even broken ground on it yet. Nobody there actually believes it will get done. The government is so damn corrupt there, they just pocket all sorts of money and rarely do what they're supposed to do with it. The biggest problem in Jo'burg and nationwide, though, will be crime. With all of those tourists there, it's going to be a ********in' free-for-all. The cops, like the government officials, are utterly useless. The country will claim that crime stats are dropping leading up to 2010. That's only because nobody even bothers to report crimes to the police anymore. When I was mugged, the cops did everything in their power to dissuade me from filing a report. I guess we'll see what happens. There are still 3 years left, so you never know, but I'm not optimistic. SA is really very Western in a lot of ways, but also very much a developping nation in a lot of other ways. For the sake of the country, I hope it works out because it would be a huge boom to their economy and to SA's international reputation."

No . i'm saying who the hell cares, it's the world most boring pathetic sport. who wants to waste time on a game that ends o - o .
If in America they had sporting fields that could handle Australia Football (190 yards goal to goal and 150 yards wing to wing ) our game would take off there no worries.

Re: Who's Better in Soccer/Football USA or Australia?

USA are too cocky about any sport. Yet they are ********house at almost everything except for Gridiron and local basketball.

Sorry Jeff but that is my view.
