Florida match ends with player being shot

A cricket game in Florida ended when one of the players shot an opponent with a semi-automatic rifle.

The UPI agency reported that Devan Bascom shot Francis Singh in the abdomen after he was threatened him with a cricket bat following a heated argument in the match in Orlando. In a rather bizarre comment, police said that while Bascom appeared to be acting in self defence, the presence of a gun at a game was “unusual”.

"The shooter was defending himself from an attack with a cricket bat which is similar to a baseball bat, but it's flat," a spokesman said. "For this man to bring a firearm to a sporting event is odd but then again, he has the right to do so. He has a concealed weapons permit and if, in fact, he was protecting himself, he was authorized by law to do so."

Bascom was questioned by police but not arrested while Singh underwent an operation and was reported to be in a stable condition.

Yeah, sure, lets all carry guns to the ground and if things get out of hand (as they can from time to time) instead of just walking off, we'll have a shoot out.

:laugh: What an idiot. He was allowed to carry the gun... just shows what america is like doesnt it! And i chuckled to myself they way they describe a cricket bat im suprised they didnt call it a rip off of baseball or something.

Insane, but then again it was in self defence. I wouldn't really want to be smacked around the hit with a cricket bat, even if its flat.

You do have to question why he has a gun with him and also, did he have it on the pitch or did he have to go and get it from the changing areas?

Those Americans always take things to the extreme don't they! Make it look like a laughing stock in the US, i tell you most of their sports are rubbish! They don't deserve to play our beautiful game!!

Americans have changed things as per their convenience like for few eg: Football to soccer; Ruby to American football, left hand drive instead of Right hand etc...
Personally;I would like to have American cricket team playing serious international cricket.
Who l knows we even might get to see a hip- hop cricket or even the first Gay cricketer
By the way what sort of a player would u expect from him to be? .... Batsmen or Bowler :laugh:

Bah, thats why I hate America. Its my home country but its stupid, in some states is legal to carry a gun, i'm not sure about Florida but i dont think so.

america does need to sort out their laws related to possesion of guns. i dont think cricket will ever become a mainstream sport in america. the average american will probably find the laws of cricket too hard to understand.
