Windows Vista SP1 - A new beginning?

So, it has finally happened. MS released the long awaited SP1. Have anyone of you have recently installed it? If you have Vista then you must go for SP1.

Give us your review after Vista SP1. Here's mine:

I've found that Windows has become much more stable than before. The RAM useage is improved tremendously, earlier it was around 39% idle, and now its down to 24% idle. File copying speeds have also noticeably gone up, and program compatibility has greatly improved.
Now these were stats. Lets come down to other things. The snappy feeling to windows has returned, and Windows do open much quicker now. The few latency problems in switching through Windows are gone. And there's much more to it.

So, how about you?

I'm going to try it as soon as I get hold of a decent computer. I was not too impressed with Vista because it was incompatible with a lot of my hardware. I hope SP1 has solved those problems.

Re: Windows Vista SP1 - A new beginning?

Well, as far as I know, Most hardware problems are due to the manufacturer not able to make upto the mark drivers. However, some have been ironed out in Vista Sp1, for example the Intel GMA compatibility problem. :)

Re: Windows Vista SP1 - A new beginning?

From what I read, the manufacturers were blaming Microsoft. Both parties must be responsible to some extent.

I have been using it since it became available, so about a month now and I have to say that it seems a lot better.

The OS is more stable, quicker to load with less little bugs cropping up.

Yeah but it was Microsoft's code so they could do anything with that. It was the manufacturer's responsibility to give proper drivers ACCORDING to Vista. However, yes, it is also that bugs in the OS have their share of problems too, but now with SP1, most have been resolved.

And as far as I read, only nVidia was all over the place critising Microsoft. AMD never gave an explanation and Creative still thinks that their drivers for Vista are best and blah blah blah. There's one more thing annoying with Creative though. When one man spent like 2 days trying to make Creative driver's compatible with Vista and then releasing them, they actually filed a lawsuit against him! How stupid, he get's a lawsuit for giving Creative's customers, the support that creative should've given?

I'll ignore the Apple fanboy above ^ :p

I'm pretty happy with Vista and rate it over XP. Very few problems with it, it run quick and looks pretty good.

Re: Windows Vista SP1 - A new beginning?

You need to have all the service packs installed so that you don't have to keep installing and uninstalling vista.
Sorry but I did a course working with vista and we found that it was shit before the service pack one was installed.

Re: Windows Vista SP1 - A new beginning?

Well then there are few conclusions from it. You install 3 Service Packs on XP to make it updated. You install 1 on Vista. That's a win win situation for Vista. ;)

They will have more service packs for Vista. It's just that they have only got the first one out now.

Yeah they will, but the fact is that Vista is now a stable OS even with the first Service Pack and its even faster than XP if you've got the right config! :)

And by the right config I basically mean a gig of ram and more. With me having 2 GB RAM and having superfetch really helps, most common applications like firefox start in a moment really.

It looks really likely you don't game much though. There's almost null gaming you can do on a Mac OS. :p

I have got that on my brand spanking new computer. It is great.
All I need to do is wait for the guys from Telstra to come and install bigpond for me.
