Most of the guys now a days don't realise what's going on in their pc and blame windows for taking so long. The truth is, you need to be careful of what program you are installing. For example, a raw windows XP install, on my pc, hardly takes 8 seconds to startup. But when I load up a general barrage of programs like Windows Live, Yahoo messenger, Photoshop, etc. The time easily shoots to 15+ seconds. The thing is, you've got to make the installations smarter. Make sure you don't start a program automatically. Almost 90% softwares have an option for that while installing. Don't install a truckload of fonts you don't even use, because when Windows starts all those fonts are loaded, so the more the longer.
Also, if any of you have heard of nlite, then you're in for a treat. My nLited windows installation takes a mere 7 seconds to startup.
