Re: Zimbabwe in Bangladesh

This will be a good little series. Hopefully Zimbabwe can be a bit more competitive this time. They beat Kenya 4-1 a couple of weeks ago so that will give them some confidence into this series.

Re: Zimbabwe in Bangladesh

Zimbabwe thrashed Bangladesh in game one. Elton Chigumbura was the destroyer, taking three top order wickets with the ball and then smashing 60 not out with the bat to see Zimbabwe home by five wickets and more then 15 overs remaining. He was also Man of the Match for his all-round effort. Chamu Chibhabha and Kyle Jarvis took two wickets as Bangladesh slipped to 8/124 before Dolar Mahmud and Mushfiqur Rahim made sure Bangladesh had something defendable on the board, lifting them to 186 all out.

It wasn't enough though and despite Zimbabwe falling to 5/90, Stuart Matsikenyeri and Chigumbura made sure Zimbabwe got home and did so quite comfortably with Abdur Razzak the Tigers' bowler to have any real influence with three wickets.

Game One

Bangladesh a.o. 186 (46.5 overs)

Mushfiqur Rahim 56 (77)
Dolar Mahmud 41 (30)

Elton Chigumbura 3/27 (8)
Chamu Chibhabha 2/28 (8)
Kyle Jarvis 2/43 (8.5)

Zimbabwe 5/189 (34.4 overs)

Elton Chigumbura 60* (50)
Stuart Matsikenyeri 47* (55)
Charles Coventry 32 (43)

Abdur Razzak 3/36 (8.4)

Result: Zimbabwe won by five wickets (with 92 balls remaining)
Series: Zimbabwe lead best-of-five series 1-0
Man of the Match: Elton Chigumbura

Re: Zimbabwe in Bangladesh

Wow, that's very unexpected. Looks like this series might be a lot more competitive than I was thinking.

Re: Zimbabwe in Bangladesh

Order is restored. Bangladesh thrashed Zimbabwe in game two. Zimbabwe were restricted to 219 batting first which was a disappointing after a good start. The Zimbabwe middle order then fell apart and in the end they failed to bat 50 overs. Malcolm Waller top scored making 40 with Taibu, Chibhabha and Masakadza getting starts. Abdur Razzak snared 5/29, his best-ever ODI bowling figures.

In reply, Bangladesh started very quickly but lost wickets as the run-rate ticked over at ten an over early on. They slipped to 3/53 before Shakib al Hasan smashed them out of trouble, making 105 not out from 69 balls to get them home with more than 20 overs to spare.

Game Two

Zimbabwe a.o. 219 (47.2 overs)

Malcolm Waller 40 (39)
Chamu Chibhabha 39 (67)
Tatenda Taibu 38 (56)
Hamilton Masakadza 34 (31)

Abdur Razzak 5/29 (9.2)
Mohammad Ashraful 2/28 (6)
Naeem Islam 2/43 (8)

Bangladesh 3/221 (29.3 overs)

Shakib al Hasan 105* (69)
Raqibul Hasan 39* (75)

Elton Chigumbura 2/47 (9)

Result: Bangladesh won by seven wickets (with 123 balls remaining)
Series: Five-game Series tied at 1-1
Man of the Match: Abdur Razzak

Re: Zimbabwe in Bangladesh

Wow, if Bangladesh played out those 50 overs in the second ODI they were in for a massive score had they retained their wickets. As the old theory goes, double the 30 over score and that should be about the final score... in that case over 400. Should have been 330+ anyway.

I would like to see Zimbabwe get one back on them though. Would love it if they had names I could pronounce though :p

Re: Zimbabwe in Bangladesh

Zimbabwe batted first in game three but could only manage 196 all out as they fell well short of batting out their 50 overs. Hamilton Masakadza scored a quickfire 84 but he lacked real support with only three other players reaching double figures. Nazmul Hossain and Enamul Haque Jnr claimed three wickets with spinner Abdur Razzak taking two after opening the bowling.

Bangladesh started strongly and appeared to be cruising before losing 4/19 which prompted a post-match blasting from skipper Shakib al Hasan. In the end Bangladesh won by four wickets with more than nine overs remaining. Tamim Iqbal scored 80 opening the innings and combined well with Mohammad Ashraful who made a patient 63. Kyle Jarvis snared three wickets for 38 runs, including two late in the innings as Bangladesh wobbled home.

Zimbabwe a.o. 196 (41.1 overs)

Hamilton Masakadza 84 (79)
Charles Coventry 29 (29)
Malcolm Waller 27 (44)

Nazmul Hossain 3/13 (4.1)
Enamul Haque Jnr 3/45 (10)
Abdur Razzak 2/41 (8)

Bangladesh 6/198 (40.4 overs)

Tamim Iqbal 80 (72)
Mohammad Ashraful 63 (91)

Kyle Jarvis 3/38 (10)
Graeme Cremer 2/43 (8.4)

Result: Bangladesh won by four wickets with 56 balls remaining
Series: Bangladesh lead five-match series 2-1
Man of the Match: Tamim Iqbal

Re: Zimbabwe in Bangladesh

Game 4 and Zimbabwe all out 44. Even with a pitch that does a bit, and apprently that one did, that's incredible.
And then Bangladesh lost 4 wickets in reponse, though they didn't lose the first until 33 were on the board.

Zimbabwe 44 (Al Hasan 3/8, Enamul Haue Jr 3/16) lost to Bangladesh 4/49 (11.5ov) (Price 2/5)

Only three players made double figures for the match.

Re: Zimbabwe in Bangladesh

Well, game four was anything but close. Zimbabwe won the toss and chose to bat which was probably the wrong thing to do with the pitch heavily favouring the spinners. Zimbabwe then put in one of the worst batting efforts seen for some time, losing a wicket an over for the first three overs with the rest following suit soon after except for a small partnership between Waller and Matsikenyeri. Bangladesh's bowling was nothing special but Zimbabwe's batting was just awful with soft dismissals and many fundemental errors marring the innings.

Enamul Haque Jnr and Shakib al Hasan claimed three wickets each for Bangladesh in an attack which had only one seam bowler.

In reply, Bangladesh started quickly, racing to 0/22 from three overs and we thought the record chase of 4.2 overs might be in trouble. Zimabbwe then brought the spinners on which slowed the run-rate and then Ray Price struck twice in one over getting rid of Tamim Iqbal for 22 and then Mohammad Ashraful for a duck. Graeme Cremer struck in the very next over, his first and then again in his second but 44 was never going to be enough to defend and Raqibul Hasan finished the game with a six over long-on.

Zimbabwe's total was the 5th lowest ever ODI score, they also hold the record of 35 all out which was against Sri Lanka in 2004. The game only lasted 36.4 overs and of the 14 wickets that fell, 12 were taken by spinners. Funnily enough, the only seamer to take wickets, Nazmul Hossain, was Man of the Match.

Game Four

Zimbabwe a.o. 44

Shakib al Hasan 3/8 (6.2)
Enamul Haque Jnr 3/16 (7)
Nazmul Hossain 2/10 (6)
Abdur Razzak 2/10 (5)

Bangladesh 4/49 (11.5 overs)

Tamim Iqbal 22 (26)

Ray Price 2/5 (4)
Graeme Cremer 2/11 (2.5)

Result: Bangladesh won by six wickets with 229 balls remaining
Series: Bangladesh lead five-match series 3-1
Man of the Match: Nazmul Hossain

The final game of the series is on Thursday.

Re: Zimbabwe in Bangladesh

Real shame about this series, it looked quite promising after the first match.

Zimbabwe's decline since the days of Flower Power, Heath Streak et al. has been one of the great disappointments of international cricket. With their history they really don't deserve to be the whipping boys they are now.
