Re: Australian Test XI - Selection Thread
IMO Our best batsman is the one who is making the most runs at the best average. You can look good all you want, but the bottom line is that our best batsman is the one making runs.
I don't think moving him down the order while he is restricted...
Guatam Gambhir and Irfan Pathan?
Two of my favourite players going around, what's happening with them? I havn't heard too much about Gambhir recently, although I know he made 167 in his last match. As for Pathan, he was so promising and hasn't played since 2008, has anyone got any idea on...
Re: Australian Test XI - Selection Thread
In terms of actual runs over the past two years, no he is not the best bat we have got.
The point seems to fly over your head very often.
Re: Australian Test XI - Selection Thread
I know what you're saying, but I'm talking about his average from 2 years ago up until now.
I personally think he should go down there order especially if restricted, but as I said I don't doubt his ability, but for some time now he has averaged...
Re: Australian Test XI - Selection Thread
I agree.
Since 07/08, Ponting has 2193 runs @ 41.38.
Since 07/08, Clarke has 2438 runs @ 54.17.
Since 08 (he didn't play 07/08), Katich has 2132 runs @ 52.
For a while now, I think Ponting has been overrated (not taking anything away from...
Re: Bring back australia a?
My bet is Wade and Paine will be fighting it out for Haddin's keeping spot in the future. Both are young and have very good potential with the bat.
In 08-09 Wade averaged near 50 with the bat, I havn't been keeping track of him this season though.
Re: changes to consider...
Obviously it's my opinion, but my eye is for youth. If that guy can prove he's good enough at the top level, he replaces North in my mind. If he can't capitalise on a dead rubber you have the decision to leave him in or drop North, once again, in my mind. I know the...
Re: changes to consider...
Havn't been a major fan of North, but we has doing enough up until this summer, being a home summer especially it won't go in his favour. Most here would know I'm a big fan of playing youth, so I'd slot Hughes in at 6 for the next match and have Katich and Watson...
Re: Pakistan in Australia
Pakistan need Younis Khan, they look so much healthier with:
Butt
Farhat
Khan
Yousuf
Akmal
Iqbal/Misbah
His batting really isn't anything to write home about.
Re: changes to consider...
Yeah it can work both ways, to give a guy one of his last opportunities or expose a young guy, it's up to the selectors really.
Re: Pakistan in Australia
Was horrible in the Melbourne test too. I remember pointing out to my mate that he was dropping normal balls carrying through to him, then threatened to throw them at the batsman.
Re: changes to consider...
I'd drop him for the dead rubber, see what a Hughes, Smith, Khawaja or Klinger has to offer. If they fail, leave North in. He should be under scrutiny though, he is full of soft dismissals.
Re: Pakistan in Australia
Credit goes to LTD for never giving up hope.
Heads need to roll. K.Akmal must go, along with Misbah Ul Haq (His 61 in Melbourne had him dropped on 5).
