Best of luck to both LLS and Dave, our last friendly before the league starts next weekend was called off this morning so got to watch some IPL which might as well have been washed out too, heres hoping for something better in the 2nd game today.
Did you go Sunday? As it turned out I managed to see Ian in Essex last Sunday and Steff & Ross in Essex the previous Sunday which was still less travelling from Norfolk than going to Somerset for a day. I was a bit disappointed with Ian's day, but I think that had as much to do with how the...
Yep, thats the idea. Obviously its only as reliable as the blokes who use it, but make sure you have access to the team(s) above you to head off any problems not of your own making and communication with the captain of the 3rds will be crucial both in terms of shortages and who he might want to...
Sorry Dave, my Saturdays are spoken for (full fixture list from 3rd May through to 30th August) and its realistically my last season playing in the same team as Ollie, cricket is great in the respect that dads can play with their lads, but the writing is on the wall! I think you are starting to...
Liz, if only that were true. There are many clubs where finding 11 to field for the 2nds (insert lowest level team as applicable) is a hard enough struggle (and I would include asking all the categories you listed) let alone finding a 'spare' to perform any other role such as umpire, score...
Dave, I was in a similar position a couple of years ago so feel free to drop me a pm whenever and I will try to help where possible.
As SLA says, only really need one 'real' umpire with others filling in at square leg, although it is always worth trying to have at least 3 people who are...
Thanks for the link Liz, I had already asked if they are happy for coaches to come and watch, just waiting for a reply. Must be mad as I only start my new job on 1st April and also have to justify 276 miles each way, but as you have said 'what else could you ask for?'.
Ian is also running a...
All looks good Liz, as a guess I would think that many would like a bit of feedback about 'going round the loop', I know its a can of worms and the coach will need to be careful it doesn't take over the session but still think it would be useful to at least allocate some time to it.
Would he 'allow' other coaches to come and observe? If so just let me know where and when and I will try to get along, nearer Cambs would be better for me, but happy to travel to Essex for a bit of coaching CPD
LLS, best of luck. Hopefully when you say 'nets', you will find it is indoor training for a few weeks perhaps followed by some well run net sessions that mirror game situations as closely as possible, but that is a whole different debate. If you do find yourself stuck with the traditional net...
Shahid, have a look at the Youtube clip with Terry Jenner's views on accuracy, particularly from about 2:30 onwards. As for looking at a spot or not, different things work for different bowlers, some look at the spot, some imagine making the batsman move or play a particular shot, others where...
shahidpak, you should be OK if you toe was on the crease as you only need some of your foot (grounded or raised) behind the line although you shouldn't really need to push the limits too much being a spinner - for a better guide have a quick look at the following MCC link
As for changing, if...
So, LLS what were your initial impressions? Also interested to hear if the instructor was able to identify some areas to work on from a cricketing perspective.
Dave, how about this link
http://sports.ndtv.com/cricket/news/214654-monty-panesar-credits-ryan-giggs-and-yoga-for-his-ashes-inclusion
it actually wasn't the link I was looking for, as I remembered something about Justin Langer being an advocate of yoga which I have now found here...
LLS, the biggest concern looking at that schedule is why a 12 year old (who looks to be reasonably active and doing plenty of sport) feels the need to do calorie burning exercises - its fine for those of us who 'need' to burn a few more calories but you are probably be doing enough in your daily...
Can you get someone to 'umpire' your net sessions and be really strict on no balls, as I assume that is why you feel the need to check in matches?
Try to make training as much like a game as possible - bowl in 6 ball 'overs', not taking in turns and be just as harsh on no balls, wides etc...
Aside from the obvious stumping issue, walking has two main problems, being balanced when playing the shot and a related point of being able to judge the ball when you are on the move - neither are impossible when walking down, just that little bit harder. Try to work on moving less and just...
SEC129, thanks for the support, but unfortunately the argument has been lost and although it may seem a bit 'toys out of the pram', I just can't get motivated to coach in that environment going forward. The club had so much potential to be a real community hub with a fully inclusive attitude...
Thanks Liz, yes amazes and frustrates me in equal measure. At least I think my under 14s 'get it' so I am reasonably happy that they will have some understanding that cricket is a 'team sport' going forward.
