1st Test: Bangladesh vs India at Chittagong

Re: 1st Test: Bangladesh vs India at Chittagong

Just when you think a test is dead and buried, we get a thrilling 15 minute wake-up call.

Bangladesh had better be careful here.
They've basically got the whole day to bat now.

Re: 1st Test: Bangladesh vs India at Chittagong

Javed Omar given out lbw, replay shows it was a bad decision.

Bangladesh 20-1

Re: 1st Test: Bangladesh vs India at Chittagong

Habibul Bashar out for a duck.
He needs to retire.

20-2

Re: 1st Test: Bangladesh vs India at Chittagong

40-2 after 11

Shahriar Nafees is looking good, he's up to 25 so far.

Re: 1st Test: Bangladesh vs India at Chittagong

Shahriar Nafees out for 32

and now the rain hits, so the umpires call a slightly early lunch.

Bangladesh 49-3, they need 139 more runs to avoid the follow on

Re: 1st Test: Bangladesh vs India at Chittagong

Saqibul out for 27,
Bangladesh 114-5

they need 74 more runs to avoid the follow on

If another wicket falls, it's going to be nerve-wracking.

Re: 1st Test: Bangladesh vs India at Chittagong

Oh oh, Rajin Saleh out for 41
116-6

Bangladesh in trouble now.
They've still got a chance, but they'll need to be real careful now.

Re: 1st Test: Bangladesh vs India at Chittagong

Thanks laregly to Mashrafe Mortaza, Bangladesh avoided the follow-on. Mortaza cracked 79 and was well supported by his opening bowling partner in Shahadat Hossain who scored a hard-fought 31. They were bowled out for 238, a deficit of 149.

Bangladesh have struck back with the ball and India are in early trouble at 2/13. Hossain has both wickets including opener Wasim Jaffer who was on a king pair. Jaffer ended up getting the pair, out for another duck and he's supposed to be their specialist opener. Rahul Dravif fell a short time ago for 2.

India leads by 162 runs with 8 wickets in hand. Still 17.5 overs left today. There could still be a result yet in this game.

Re: 1st Test: Bangladesh vs India at Chittagong

India are 2/44 at stumps. Tendulkar steadied the Indians with a well-made 24 after losing two early wickets. Karthik is also there undefeated on 15.

India lead by 193 runs with 8 wickets in hand. Tomorrow should be very, very interesting, here's hoping the rain stays away.

Re: 1st Test: Bangladesh vs India at Chittagong

India should bat for the first 60-90 minutes, get a 300 run lead, and then declare a little bit before lunch. It could be an entertaining day if the rain stays away. Bangladesh may need to call on Mortaza to bat again.

Re: 1st Test: Bangladesh vs India at Chittagong

It rained a lot last night.
They showed the ground and there's standing water all around it, but the playing surface itself was looking fairly decent. The good news is that there was bright sunlight.

I'm in an optimistic mood, so I'll predict that we'll get a good half day's play in today. It might be entertaining.

Re: 1st Test: Bangladesh vs India at Chittagong

Still no play as of yet. There was an inspection at 11am local time (about 40 mins ago) but the umpires, Billy Doctrove and Daryl Harper were still not happy with the condition of the outfield.

Surface is still rather squishy and there will be another inspection in around 50 mins.

Re: 1st Test: Bangladesh vs India at Chittagong

Still not fit for play. Next inspection will be at 2pm local time (1 hour and 13 mins away from now).

Re: 1st Test: Bangladesh vs India at Chittagong

Slight change of plan. The conditions have improved enough for an inspection right now.

At the moment, the umpires are hoping to start play at 2pm local time which is about 15 mins away. Should play start at 2pm, there will be 55 overs bowled in the day provided there are no more interruptions.

Re: 1st Test: Bangladesh vs India at Chittagong

Play will start at 2pm local time. Tea will be taken at 3:30pm.

Umpires are still hoping for 55 overs to be bowled today.

Seems to be little chance of a result unless India chase quick runs and make a declaration. Many seem to think that India will treat today as batting practice but we'll find out what their intentions are later on.

Re: 1st Test: Bangladesh vs India at Chittagong

Match ended in a draw. India went out today chasing quick runs and were spun out by the spin bowling of Mohammad Rafique who claimed three wickets.

This forced India to declare quickly with Bangladesh needing 250 off 43 overs. They reached 2/104 off 28 in the end with Javed Omar 52 not out and Habibul Bashar dismissed late for 37. Both captains decided to call the game off after the compulsory overs were completed.

Player of the Match was Mashrafe Mortaza.

Re: 1st Test: Bangladesh vs India at Chittagong

We almost had an entertaining final day, but in the end the rain just took too many overs away from this match.

Mortaza certainly deserved player of the match. Powar had a good debut, and Shakib had a fine debut as well.

Bangladesh should be very happy with this draw.
This is only their second test ever against one of the top 8 countries that they haven't lost.
