1st Test: England vs West Indies at Lord's

Re: 1st Test: England vs West Indies at Lord's

342-4 after 97

It's been all Collingwood and Bell after lunch, and they've been able to hit the new ball for a number of boundaries. West Indies will need to strike soon here.

Re: 1st Test: England vs West Indies at Lord's

Bravo bowls Collingwood for 111, and he finally gets the wicket he's deserved.
363-5

Now in comes Matt Prior making his test debut.

Re: 1st Test: England vs West Indies at Lord's

372-5 at tea

England still well in control here.
The last session is supposed to be an extended one though, and if the West Indies can get to the tail quickly enough, they might even get to bat still today.

Re: 1st Test: England vs West Indies at Lord's

Prior with an impressive debut, already over a half century

England 434-5 after 122

Re: 1st Test: England vs West Indies at Lord's

527-5

Both Bell and Prior have their centuries.
Lots of people seem to expect a declaration. I think there's no need and England should keep batting.

Re: 1st Test: England vs West Indies at Lord's

and that's the end of the day, 553-5,
I'm sure West Indies will be batting first thing tomorrow morning

The two batsmen actually wanted to stay out there and had no intention of accepting the light, but the umpires forced them off. Go figure.

Re: 1st Test: England vs West Indies at Lord's

Bravo!

Dwayne Bravo hits a big six to reach his half century. He's scored 52 from 50 deliveries.

West Indies are 273-5, they still need 81 runs to avoid the follow-on, but it looks like Bravo and Chanderpaul should be able to contribute enough to help reach that target.

Monty Panesar has dominated so far with 4 wickets.

Re: 1st Test: England vs West Indies at Lord's

Me and my big mouth.
Bravo out for 56

279-6

Ramdin will need to stick around with Chanderpaul for a bit here, because after him the West Indies only have bowlers left.

Re: 1st Test: England vs West Indies at Lord's

337-6
Ramdin has looked good out there.

Only 17 more runs needed to avoid the follow on, so it looks like England will be batting again. They may not have enforced the follow on anyway, with Hoggard hurt and Harmison looking more and more wild as the day goes on.

Re: 1st Test: England vs West Indies at Lord's

354-6

follow on avoided!

thank you Ramdin and Chanderpaul

Re: 1st Test: England vs West Indies at Lord's

Ramdin out for 60 right as the day was about to finish.
Good showing from him though, as he got them past the follow on point.

362-7

Re: 1st Test: England vs West Indies at Lord's

stumps on day 3
West Indies 363-7

They still trail by 190, but hopefully they'll be able to cut that to 150 tomorrow. England will have to bat quickly to set a decent target for the final day. I suppose a result is still possible, but the smart money has to be on the draw.

Re: 1st Test: England vs West Indies at Lord's

Decent work from Chanderpaul, Powell, and Jerome Taylor to get West Indies to 437 before finally being finished off. Monty Panesar wound up taking 6 of their wickets. A definite candidate for man of the match.

Powell shattered his old test high of 16 with a 36 not out today.

That meant that England only had a 116 run lead.
They're going to need to bat for nearly the whole day before they can get a lead big enough for them to declare.

Re: 1st Test: England vs West Indies at Lord's

Strauss out for 24

England 47-1 after 15 overs

Re: 1st Test: England vs West Indies at Lord's

Collymore gets his second.
Shah out for just 4.

England 56-2 after 17, a lead of 172 runs

Re: 1st Test: England vs West Indies at Lord's

England 105-2 at tea, a lead of 221.

Presumably they're going to pick up the pace here in the final session of the day.

Re: 1st Test: England vs West Indies at Lord's

England might have to make a number of changes for the second test coming up later this week. First off, it's likely that Hoggard will be unfit to go. Second, Shah has underwhelmed with scores of 6 and 4. And finally, Harmison is looking like he might fall apart at any point during the test.

So that's three possible changes coming up in just a few days. Hoggard and Shah are almost certainly out, while Harmison should generate a bit of debate. It'll be interesting to see what's decided.

Re: 1st Test: England vs West Indies at Lord's

Cook out for 65, Collymore gets his third

England 139-3 after 43.4 overs, not really setting the place on fire here.
They only have a lead of 255, and definitely still need to pick up quite a few more runs.
