1st Test: Pakistan v South Africa

Re: 1st Test: Pakistan v South Africa

Boucher mistimes a slog-sweep to Misbah-ul-Haq. Danish Kaneria gets his third wicket.

6/188. Kallis is 62 not out. Andre Nel is the new batsman.

Re: 1st Test: Pakistan v South Africa

Andre Nel departs after a patient, supportive innings.

7/258 with Kallis on 88. South Africa have a big lead of 408 runs currently.

Re: 1st Test: Pakistan v South Africa

South Africa declared at 7/264, Kallis finished on 100 not out

This means that Pakistan required 424 runs to win.

Currently Pakistan are 2/32 off 8 overs.

Re: 1st Test: Pakistan v South Africa

At Stumps Pakistan are 3/146 requiring another 278 runs with 7 wickets in hand on the last day for victory.

Younis Kahn is currently 93 not out and the night-watchman Mohammad Asif is on 1 not out after Faisal Iqbal fell to Harris on 44.

The final day is set up to be a thrilling chase with the first session being crucial to both teams.

Re: 1st Test: Pakistan v South Africa

Pretty much the only way Pakistan doesn't lose this is if Younis bats for the entire day. If they lose him before lunch, they're toast.

Re: 1st Test: Pakistan v South Africa

At what stage will Pakistan bat to try to save this match for a draw instead of trying to win it? Younis has gotten his fantastic century, but they've lost 4 wickets, and it might be too risky for them to try to win this one. If they manage such a difficult and historic win, it would be fully deserved, of course. I'm very skeptical that it can happen.

Re: 1st Test: Pakistan v South Africa

It's 197/4 right now, they need 227 more runs today, and there's still about 30 minutes until lunch. Younis is up to 126.

If Misbah and Younis can keep this partnership going while still scoring about 3 runs an over, they just might pull off a shocker. They still have Shoaib Malik and Kamran Akmal to bat, so the potential to score about 200 more runs is still there.

Re: 1st Test: Pakistan v South Africa

Younis Khan is gone on 126, bowled by Steyn!!!!

There goes the match to Saffies now!

Re: 1st Test: Pakistan v South Africa

Pakistan think they can still win this one, 194 more runs to win and it's lunchtime with 5 wickets in hand.

Re: 1st Test: Pakistan v South Africa

After scoring less than 10 runs in 10 combined overs, all of a sudden they get 24 in 3 overs. Crazy.

Re: 1st Test: Pakistan v South Africa

It's Friday today, so they take longer lunch in the afternoon in Pakistan. They all have to go to the mosque to pray, at least the Muslim ones (which is everyone other than Danish Kaneria). I'm sure they'll all be praying for a win over there. Besides, isn't it the month of Ramadan anyway, I thought Muslims aren't allowed to eat or even drink a single drop of water between sunrise and sunset. I wonder what they're eating during lunch or even drank during the drinks breaks?!?!?! I also know Hashim Amla on the South African team is a practicing Muslim, so not sure about this Ramadan observance business.

The other day I was watching Barcelona vs. Sevilla from Spanish league, and the commentator said that for the practicing Muslims in sports, it is OK to eat and drink as normal during Ramadan, but borrow corresponding fasting days after Ramadan when and make up. I think there were 3 or 4 Muslim players in that match - Freddie Kanoute for Sevilla and Yaya Toure for Barcelona. Thierry Henry for Barcelona is Muslim too, but I don't believe he's a practicing one. I wonder if the the same thing about borrowing fasting days is going on by most the Pakistan team (except Danish Kaneria) and Hashim Amla over here.

Mohammad Yousuf used to be Christian but then he changed to Muslim a couple of years back. His parents were devastated when he told them.

What religion is Danish Kaneria?

Re: 1st Test: Pakistan v South Africa

Pakistan have now lost 7 wickets and there is plenty of time to go in the match. Only a miracle could save them now.

Re: 1st Test: Pakistan v South Africa

Kamran Akmal is caught behind for nine. Paul Harris has his second wicket.

Misbah-ul-Haq fell to Andrew Nel earlier after being trapped in front.

7/239 with 185 required off 48.4 overs for an unlikely victory.

And if you haven't heard, Inzamam-ul-Haq has announced his retirement and will become effective after the Lahore test.

Re: 1st Test: Pakistan v South Africa

one thing i have to do is congratulate Mark Boucher for breaking Ian Healy's record of dismissals by a keeper.

He's a fantastic Keeper, great batsman and an entertaining cricketer.

Well done Mark Boucher. @|

when will gilly break this record? :)

Re: 1st Test: Pakistan v South Africa

All over. Too easy for South Africa. Dale Steyn took 5/56 as Pakistan were all out 263, losing by 160 runs.

South Africa lead the 2 match series 1-0.

Man of the Match was Jacques Kallis.

The second and final test is in Lahore, starting on Monday.
