2012/2013 Premiership And Medal Winner - Tipping Comp

Did anyone clap cal ? Not most popular bloke in the DVCA.
Perhaps we should just read out some names and award it to he who gets the loudest applause? On the stats he had for the year, probably shouldn't have been so close. Turnz would have made just over 300 @45 and taken a dozen wickets and he's pulled up 1 vote short. In talking to Turnz and perhaps in jest, he said he would have given it back if he had won it. I've known Cal and Jethro for long enough to be comfortable to say they are good guys who are competitive and driven to succeed, not just for themselves but also there team mates. Perhaps those who find Cal in particular "not the most popular" are of the type that would prefer to make excuses or take short cuts for success.

Spot on, as a team mate of his I can say there aren't many blokes in the comp I'd want to rely on before our skipper.

Perhaps it was the cheap shot about his "popularity" that made Stu... Brutal reply?

When I asked if anyone clapped it was in jest.
F**k me society is very precious these days.

Anyone seen the teams of the year yet? Very interesting. Only 7 players from the 8 finals teams (4 Barclay, 3 money) and none from the two money grand finalists.

Laughable - Rosanna the dominant team of the competition, I know that they are a balanced team, but surely they could get a few in the line up. If not making up the whole team. Montmorency having two players, Goodwin in front of Dunbar, Sam Sheehan making 365.

???

Does anyone know who is on the selection commitee?

I think they nailed the Money Shield team. With maybe the exception of Dunbar in for Goodwin, Goodwin made a few runs too.. but in reality in a strong side wouldn't bat above 10 so it is less of a factor. Didn't realize how good a year Rick Ford had. If you're going to knock the team then tell everyone who you would play and in whose position. Can't see where Sam Sheehan would fit in the side to be honest.

Sheehan in for Stuart.
Dunbar in for Goodwin.
Cunningham in for Ford.

Hard to go by averages / votes, as better teams spread the load. PH rely on Ford / Motschall to do everything. Goodwin dominates for Whittlesea, but not a great year.

Sheehan for Stuart? You're joking. Chickenman made 400 runs and took 20 wickets.

I agree its hard to go by statistics. Yet they're the only real objective measure we have. For instance... Rick took 6 more wickets in 11 games than Dylan did in 15 at both a better strike rate and a better average. So how do you justify Dylan's spot? because Greensborough made the grand final? Because Rick took 0/57 against Bundoora United?

The Chickenman made as many runs as Sam and took 19 more wickets. If you can have someone in the side who bats equally as well and offers a bowling option why wouldn't you rather them?

Personally I agree with the Goodwin change as he wouldn't play the same roll in this side.

The thing is Rosanna have a very even spread and so statistically (which again this should be based predominately on statistics as the people picking the team can't watch these guys play every week) nobody demanded a spot in this side. On the flipside they won a flag.. :D

Dunbar for Goodwin, could take Toppi out & open with someone else like A.Stuart perhaps. This could open up another specialist batting spot?

Could do. Although personally I'm a fan of playing guys in position... having Justin Whitcher picked at 8 is ridiculous. 4,5 and 6 might be fairly malleable but opening is a reasonably specific job so I agree with picking two guys who batted there all (or most) of the year. Particularly when picking a two-day side.

Just because a bloke stars in a poor side that doesn't win a game does not mean he has had a good a season as a player with limited opportunities in a gun side.
Rosanna have an even spread and I would personally think that their top 4 or 5 could fill the spots, considering they lost only an average of 5 wickets per game.
Essendon of 2000 go almost unbeaten and dominate the All Aus side, but don't get the Brownlow or most disposals - it shouldn't be based on stats.
How would Stuart even bowl in this side?
Keep Ford in, and you have 3 blokes who dominated the comp bowling quick, took 49,48 and 36 wickets, then a spinner.

Agree that its a tough ask for their guys to dominate when everyone has an even season. But it's about picking a side of guys who have had the most outstanding years in their respective positions.

I still can't see who you would drop to make room for these Rosanna batsmen. Lalor probably had the best top order (in my opinion) and it's reflected in the XI.

Your comment can only really be applicable to Goodwin, who is probably lucky to be picked. Motch and Ford have to carry Panton Hill and would arguably be more dangerous in better sides.

If a guy scores 500 runs in an ordinary side verse someone who scores 350 runs for the same number of bats in a good side I'd argue that individually the 500 run guy has had a better season but ultimately we all play for team success.

Chickenman made more money shield runs than any of the Rosanna top order and took 20 wickets to boot. Those guys at the top of the order had seasons nearly as good (Almatrah excepted) with the bat but don't bowl. I would accept that he wouldn't bowl 20 overs in this side but I believe he'd still bowl and is a good option for a captain to have especially when he deserves a spot on batting alone.

I think it probably highlights how even Rosanna are... and how they're captained. Bowlers rotate heavily thus share the wickets. Most of the top order averaged ~30 which is a pretty good season.

As an outsider interesting to hear that Scott Gibbs won't be reappointed as Captain/Coach next season. Any new coaches been appointed?

When you say those 2 guys from Panton Hill could arguably be more dangerous in a better side can you please explain dangerous in how so? Winning a flag? Just an observation
