2014/2015 Barclay Shield

Rosbrook is about 33 isn't he. He's probably starting to wind down, and sees at as a good chance to finish up playing with his mates from Carlton, and earn some more money whilst he's at it. If thats the case you can't begrudge him.

Its a free market. And if guys are playing at your club for money, you need to accept that they may move on for a better offer.
Yeah winding down at 32-33, give us a spell! That's 10 years of winding down according to Baker and Gibbs.

i am not speaking on behalf of the club as I am not on the committee this year, however as a senior member and player the whole playing group is disgusted about th events of the last 24 hours...

I'm not going to crap on about it, but the only thing I would like to say is being a person of good integrity is better then being a person who is dishonest

Surely a person of good integrity would text this to Rosbrook as apposed to posting a message directed at him on the Internet.

I dont know what people's expectations are of certain players however if a person has history of moving from club to club , shopping himself around for the highest amount , then they can hardly be surprised when and if they leave to join another.
Riverside will experience the same thing down the track in a year or two when their players will leave for more coin to rival clubs , as will other clubs in the district.
What Plenty should do is chase baker and/or gedge and offer them the coin which was allocated to rossbrook. Im sure their eyebrows would be raised a little....

I don't like the doing a runner comment, the guy won that club 2 flags as their Captain so in my opinion he owes plenty absolutely nothing. Paid players are there to perform as well as they can, clubs pay players at the risk of them leaving, performing poorly or not gelling , however you also do it with the hope they give you value for money that season. Good luck to Riverside , well run club who have never paid anyone other than there captain/ coaches over the years.

This is just my personal opinion, but if I'd been a paid player/coach or whatever at a club, and not been available for half of that season, I'd feel like I was doing a runner, especially on my junior club, if I left the next season.

But, that's just me, just how I'd feel.

Coin on offer or not, you'd be crazy to leave Riverside now!

Yeah, but 15 into 11 doesn't fit, so there will be a few ( and I suspect bowlers given what they have brought/bought in), that will be forced into the seconds and they will be quality players at Barclay Shield, and they may not want to play B Grade cricket.

Its pretty ordinary when a family club, just overlooks their own...this will backfire, might keep them in barclay, they wont win it, and when the 2year deals end, byebye shipped in bowling attack, oh and where are those blokes we used to have? welcome to money shield

who is the paranoid bloke arranging all this anyway?

I don't overly agree with these sentiments, but I do agree with some of the thoughts. Riverside actually had a pretty good year, not missing finals by much. But the one area that they were strong was their bowling. Their batting let them down over and over. So then in the off season they then go recruit 3 gun bowlers. That's an awful amount of disrespect to the only guys in the 1st XI that performed for the year. In saying that, if you have the ability to get players of that calibre, then you don't knock it back ever.

So what fall out will there be? I know that if I were one of those young bowlers on the rise, going from a strike opening bowler, to a 3rd or 4th change bowler wouldn't sit well with me.

But like I said. No club would knock back getting those 3, no club. So good luck to them.

yeah good luck to them, but we see perspective at research. the clubmen will rally.

I actually think it might go the other way somehow. Of their bowlers this season just gone, Gedge is really the only non all rounder.

Mark Doyle, O'Connor and Baker will all bat in the top 6 and are better bats than anyone Riverside have apart from El.

Gedge will open the bowling with Salm next year. Don't worry about that.

Not disputing his place in the team, was actually pointing in the other direction that the dedicated bats that haven't made many runs over the past few seasons will probably be the ones to miss out as the guys I mentioned before can all bat higher.

Also, the spinner will probably miss too now I'd assume.

Can't help but think that he is either just picked as a number, or the captain just wanted a spinner for the sake of it. He can't bat, and had a bowling average of 40. So that's a no brainer that he won't get a game next year.

Sounds like I have hit a nerve. Because now you're being very very silly. If you read my comment, I said that I had heard that you're looking at possible multiple imports next season. Something that whilst both of you have got your panties in a twist about, neither have disputed it.

I have mentioned your club twice this whole season. Both in the last two weeks. So settle down princess.

FYI - You might be racist and view your boys that don't have the colour of your skin as an import. I don't. An import is an import, not the colour of his skin. So no need to keep saying that I am referring to dark skinned guys as internationals.

Ok, try agin.
Imports - none on the radar - yet. Seeing how local recruiting goes then we might press the button on an import if deemed required. But certainly nothing happening yet on that front at the moment. So again not sure where you mail came from.

Classification of imports - we have copped a lot of rubbish for many years about imports. I guess we started the ball rolling on this a decade ago. A lot of clubs were critical of this. However, since then many clubs have followed suit.
As it turns out, most of our imports have been Sri Lankan, but none for 4 seasons now. This years import was from Uk (Pakistan background).
So no racism here, just a fact that ALL of our previous imports have been coloured. Makes no difference to us as long as they can play.
Others - perhaps not you - continually refer to our 'local' coloured players as imports, which does get on my goat a little.

Seems however that Riverside already have the flag in the bag so wont matter who we recruit ;)

I see you have advertised for a new coach... Constitutional requirement or issues with current coach...?
From outside looking in, thought the current bloke did ok...?

Issues like? I don't think there were issues between him and committee. I think they'd be happy with the results under him as he did say he'd get us to BS, so mission accomplished. He told me directly he thought of himself as a professional coach and would probably move to another club coaching position eventually and it was no great secret we'd be looking for a new coach this coming season. I'm looking forward to it.

Why are you looking forward to him leaving if he was successful in getting you up, and appeared to be doing a good job?

What about your captain down there? What's he like to play under/with?
