2015/2016 Barclay Shield Thread

I have no sympathy for Bundoora United. They cheated and got caught. They should be booted out of the comp. Go and play in the Northcote and Preston Churches Cricket Association where they belong.

They're not the only club that's found themselves in this position this week...

Which other club?

Surely the league will have to go through and check every player in the comp now . Although they shouldn't have to and the clubs should really be doing the right thing and police this themselves

Big night on the gas Warwick?
Yep I heard that rumour on the wend to Tongs but seeing the player was playing a lower grade and didn't involve Bundoora nothing will be done, this case seemed more servere than the bulls*** bu case

I won't name the club. I am sure that in all good time it'll come out.

For what its worth - If the said club receives the same punishment as Bundoora United, I have done the points calculations and I don't think it would effect finals or relegation across the TWO grades that the player played (Neither were in Shield grades). So I guess its a little lower on the DVCA priority list.

Toddy hears that a former Monty boy is playing in the sticks and doing a bit of moonlighting in DVCA.

How did the exec find out about the BU situation? Loose lips from within BU or a tip off from another club? Some clubs have benefited not just for finals but also possible relegation, so it's quite possible a club has sat on this to see how it could benefit them.

Sad situation for a lots of clubs this last week. Happier times for others... OPSF would be ecstatic... Riverside less so I imagine...

DVCA have followed the rules of ineligible player.... cant argue that and the penalties imposed.
From what I hear B.U denied any wrong doing when asked the question initially.
Yet several of their 'supporters' have been heard openly discussing the fact the player had been playing in another comp (in NSW) since before Christmas !!
Just a pity it has taken so long for the DVCA to act on it...the damage and fall out might not have been so great had this been sorted in December...

As for Bundoora... benefitted yes, but hopefully can get across the line this week against Brutal's mob and that means it wouldnt have mattered anyway...

Obviously they've done the wrong thing here and have paid a heavy price . Just wondering is there any way for a player to play across two comps like a permit situation?

Ex Pres would possibly have a better knowledge than me, but from what I understand, the only way a player can play across two comps is a District player in the lower grades (Not a First XI player) when they have either

1) Not been selected in a team for that round or
2) if they have been washed out.

Then a DVCA club can apply for a special permit for that player to play in the DVCA for that game only. If it happens again the next game, they would need to apply again.

I don't think there are any other ways a player can play in 2 comps at once.

Pretty spot on.. from my knowledge... except i think in the DVCA, permit applications cease from Dec 31... unless a junior player playing 3rd or 4ths... but not 100% on that...

Players can play juniors in one comp and seniors elsewhere or they can play in another Sunday comp... they cannot play in 2 separate Saturday based compettions.

A big problem for clubs is the Mycricket system. It totally relies on the honestly of the player.

It is particulary difficult for players from the sub-continent, who sometimes go by several different names....
Had one player in our 3rds 2-3 years ago whom we registered as a new player... hadnt played in Australia prior (so he said).
We registered him with 2 main names X Y as he told us.
When he played a game, to get his spelling right, I asked him to write his name on the team sheet.... he wrote 3 names, but 3 completely different names ( A,B C) to what we had him registered as !!
Panicking, I of course questioned him as to why he gave us a differnet name...? He said his full name was A,B X, Y, C, Z
He is mostly known as X,Y, which is what we registered him as... we did complete a thorough re-check and he hadnt played anywhere...

So even the slightest miss spelling, incorrect DOB or general lack of disclosure about the player's history, means the club reistering the new player can come unstuck...

In the United case, the player in question has been a United player in previous seasons... then moved away and played under a 'dodgy' version at his new club...
then came back and played at United....
So as far as Mycricket is concerned, the player hasnt played anywhere else and if the player told United this, then how would they know...?
(except apparently they did know...and that maybe the issue..?)

Funny you mention about a club knowing about this and sitting on it. I've heard exactly that. On a more positive note and to change direction. It would be remiss of me not to mention the efforts of a young 15yo who top scored for us in Barclay on Saturday. Young Ben Davies (nephew of Luke, Corey etc) batted with a lot of patience and maturity for 46 overs to score 38 and help us post a score which might get us across the line if the bowlers do the job. Top effort Benny:thumbsu:

The Executive should ping them as co-conspirators.

If what you're saying is true, these are my thoughts:

If he played in NSW under a "dodgy" name as you say (can you elaborate?) then I would take it that said player has never actually been cleared to leave Bundoora United and therefore still a eligible Bun United player? The ineligibility part would be for the club in NSW and he should therefore still be a registered player in the DVCA under Bundoora United. Thus meaning the NSW club should be punished by their association and possibly the player if he knew as he is still registered for Bun United and they are the ones who have actually committed the fraud?

Answer is. Admin rule 6 states that if a player registered in DVCA plays in another Saturday Comp, then he becomes ineligible in the DVCA.

Spot on. I just had a read, this is quoted from the rules:

"The player is registered at a club or within an association that does not play on Saturdays during the months of October to March. If the player subsequently plays senior cricket at another club that is involved in an association that plays on Saturdays during October to March, then that player will be deemed ineligible to play in the DVCA for the remainder of the season. Important to note that the condition is based on the competitions playing dates, not whether the player actually played on a Saturday or not."

Not so much a dodgy name but an abbreviated verison... eg Anthony...Tony... ( not the name but example)

Yes correct, that last part is important... we signed a player this year who also plays in a Sunday comp elsewhere...
As per DVCA, they have a shortage of grounds, so scheduled some Saturday fixtures...
This created some angst with the DVCA executive who would not clear him at first. We had to get a letter from the other comp stating it was definitely a dedicated Sunday comp that needed to play 2 Saturdays...

Loose lips sink ships. No sympathy for whoever was complicit in the cheating.

Gutting for the club and players. Worked so hard to get up to Barclay, and were competitive. In a year when 3 sides go down, maybe a few people made the decision that they needed all the help they could get, and he's a very good player. I'm sure many had reservations about it just not sure how and what you do about it. The season is now down the drain, and its ****** the grade up a bit too. BUCC will need to suit up again next year (and for the rest of the season for that fact) and there may or may not be fallout from the players.
