2nd Test: Bangladesh v India at Mirpur

The first test was a draw, due in large part to the weather. Word is that the second test should see a bit more play. We'll see though.

Rajesh Pawar and Ishant Sharma have been called in to the India squad. No word yet on if they'll make the final 11 though.

Bangladesh have a slight problem as apparently Shahadat Hossain has got a cold. He looked surprisingly good in the first test, so if he can't play in this second one, it would be a bit of a blow for Bangladesh.

Mohammad Sharif has been called up, and he might make the team if Shahadat can't go. Tushar Imran has also recovered from an injury, and he's a possibility as well.

Re: 2nd Test: Bangladesh v India at Mirpur

Early word is that Syed Rasel will replace Enamul Haque Jr for Bangladesh.

Re: 2nd Test: Bangladesh v India at Mirpur

Ishant Sharma's gonna get you!

India 1 Wasim Jaffer, 2 Dinesh Karthik, 3 Rahul Dravid, 4 Sachin Tendulkar, 5 Sourav Ganguly, 6 Mahendra Dhoni, 7 Anil Kumble, 8 Ramesh Powar, 9 Zaheer Khan, 10 RP Singh, 11 Ishant Sharma

Bangladesh 1 Javed Omar, 2 Shahriar Nafees, 3 Habibul Bashar, 4 Mohammad Ashraful, 5 Rajin Saleh, 6 Shakib Al Hasan, 7 Khaled Mashud, 8 Mashrafe Mortaza, 9 Mohammad Rafique, 10 Shahadat Hossain, 11 Syed Rasel

Re: 2nd Test: Bangladesh v India at Mirpur

Habibul Bashar has won the toss and asked to bowl first.

This strikes me as a retarded decision. Now the Bangladesh batsmen will have to face Anil Kumble on Day 4 and 5. If Bangladesh can't pick up 4 wickets in this first session, then I'm calling Bashar an idiot. Yet again.

Re: 2nd Test: Bangladesh v India at Mirpur

19-0 after 8 overs

Shakib dropped a ball that he should have caught from Karthik. And the announcers have shown the replay about a dozen times. They're really giving him a hard time about it.

Re: 2nd Test: Bangladesh v India at Mirpur

38-0 after 13 overs

Jaffer and Karthik are starting to hit boundaries now.

Re: 2nd Test: Bangladesh v India at Mirpur

And that's lunch, 67-0 after 26 overs

Pretty slow stuff here.

Mortaza has bowled 8 overs and only conceded 7 runs!!! That's a fantastic economy rate, though to be fair, Karthik and Jaffer aren't exactly trying to set the game on fire.

Re: 2nd Test: Bangladesh v India at Mirpur

India are 0/97 after 32 overs. Karthik has moved to 47 with Jaffer on 45.

Mashrafe Mortaza limped off the ground during his last over, something to do with a leg problem. Syed Rasel had to finish the over. Bad luck for the Bagladeshis.

Re: 2nd Test: Bangladesh v India at Mirpur

India are now 0/173 in the 52nd over. Karthik has moved to 82 with Jaffer on 84.

The good news for Bangladesh is that Mashrafe Mortaza is back on the ground and is now bowling. The bad news is that they haven't taken any wickets.

Also Syed Rasel has replaced Shahadat Hossain in the side due to illness.

Bashar will be ruing his decision to bowl first. Has turned out to be a bad choice in the end. That early dropped chance doesn't help either.

Re: 2nd Test: Bangladesh v India at Mirpur

189-0 after 57

Horrible decision to bowl first.

Re: 2nd Test: Bangladesh v India at Mirpur

Hilarious decision to bowl first by Bashar. And what a mistake it has been.

India are 0/326 after the first days play. Karthik retired hurt on 82 when the score was 176 with Jaffer also retiring hurt on 138 with the score on 281. Rahul Dravid has knocked up 88 so far with Sachin Tendulkar not out on 9.

Both Jaffer and Karthik left the field due to illness, the hot day and the very high humidity making batting very difficult. Karthik was suffering from cramp before he left the field with Jaffer following a similar fate.

Bangladesh have all the work to do tomorrow. They need to get early wickets otherwise they could be staring at a massive first innings deficit.

Re: 2nd Test: Bangladesh v India at Mirpur

I think it's safe to say that India will hit 600 tomorrow. With Jaffer and Karthik both available to come back if Dravid or Tendulkar get out (and for now, that's only an "if"), plus Ganguly and Dhoni waiting around, 600 looks guaranteed. Heck, if Dhoni comes in and starts swinging, maybe 700 instead.

Habibul needs to be replaced.

Re: 2nd Test: Bangladesh v India at Mirpur

One bright spot:
remember, just a few days ago in the first test, India lost 2 wickets in the first 2 overs of Day 4. Let's hope for another bright start from Bangladesh.

You guys think Jaffer and Karthik will come back to bat if and when Dravid and Tendulkar get out. I think Ganguly will be the next batsman in, but after that I think Karthik or Jaffer will show up before Dhoni.

Re: 2nd Test: Bangladesh v India at Mirpur

and there's Dravid's century

350-0

still no wicket in sight

Re: 2nd Test: Bangladesh v India at Mirpur

Dravid finally out for 129
Finally, a wicket!

India 408-1

Re: 2nd Test: Bangladesh v India at Mirpur

Karthik came back out and got his first ever test century on literally the final ball before lunch.

India 442-1 after 117

Tendulkar is on 63, he'll be looking at getting the next century. But more importantly, India will probably want to have at least 550 by tea, so they can think about declaring before the day is over.

Re: 2nd Test: Bangladesh v India at Mirpur

Karthik was out for 129
and now Ganguly is out for 15

525-3

Re: 2nd Test: Bangladesh v India at Mirpur

India declared right after Dhoni got his half century

610-3

This was the first time that the top 4 batsmen all got centuries

Re: 2nd Test: Bangladesh v India at Mirpur

Javed Omar was out for a first ball duck!

0-1

Habibul Bashar was out in the 2nd over

5-2

Shahriar Nafees was out in the third

7-3

And Ashraful was out immediately thereafter for a first ball duck

7-4

Re: 2nd Test: Bangladesh v India at Mirpur

An amazing collapse from Bangladesh, to lose 4 wickets so quickly, after India had only lost 3 over nearly 2 days. Zaheer Khan took 3 wickets. Shakib and Rajin Saleh have actually gotten away with a few shots where they could and maybe should have been out, but India dropped their chances.

Bangladesh is currently 40-4 after 10 overs.

The target to avoid the follow on is of course 411. That seems impossible at this point. Right now the honest question seems to be whether or not Bangaldesh can drag this out past 3 days tomorrow.
