3rd Test- Australia vs India

Re: 3rd Test- Australia vs India

India were bowled out for 294, Laxman made 79, Pathan 46 and Dhoni 38. It gave them a big lead of 412.

Clark took 4/61 and was the best of the bowlers, Brett Lee took 3/54 and Andrew Symonds chimed in with two wickets.

Australia managed to bat for 15 overs, needing 413 for victory and are 2/65 at stumps. Rogers was out for 15 and Jaques made 16. Ponting and Hussey are at the crease now, Ponting is on 24 and would be keen for a big score, two of the remaining batters will have to make big socre if Australia want to chase this down and get the new world record.

India are on top but Australia desperately want that 17th victory, day 4 promises to be a very interesting one.

Re: 3rd Test- Australia vs India

Australia are 5/192 at drinks in the middle session. Ponting fell for 45 after being well tested by Sharma earlier on. Mike Hussey was out for 46, falling to RP Singh, replays showed the ball was going over the stumps, Cricinfo went as far as saying that it was a poor decision. And just recently, Andrew Symonds was out LBW to Anil Kumble for 12.

Australia needs a further 221 runs to win which would be unlikely now. Clarke and Gilchrist have a lot of work to do to get Australia back into this match.

Re: 3rd Test- Australia vs India

Gilchrist is gone, tries to sweep Sehwag but the shot is horrible and leg stump is knocked back.

Totally unneeded shot and that ends a potentially dangerous partnership which had relaized 50 in quick time. That was probably Australia's last chance to try and win this game.

Brett Lee is in now, 6/227, needing another 187 runs.

Re: 3rd Test- Australia vs India

Sehwag strikes again, getting rid of Lee who is gone for a duck.

Almost game over you would think. Clarke is 61 not out.

7/229.

Re: 3rd Test- Australia vs India

Ha, ha, the bowlers are going nuts here, some entertainment for the impressive Perth crowd. 93 runs with only Tait left still almost impossible though.

Re: 3rd Test- Australia vs India

50 to Johnson!

Well played. With Clark out the game is all but over though.

Re: 3rd Test- Australia vs India

Tait bowled and it's all over. Indians acting like they have won the World Cup  Effigy manufacturers wont be happy with this result :D

Seriously though, India played very well particularly with the ball. It will be interesting to see how Australia respond in Adelaide and whether India can keep up the good work.

Re: 3rd Test- Australia vs India

Disappointing effort from Australia. The game was lost in the first innings batting effort. Little application shown by the top order and it was left to Symonds and Gilchrist to try and ressurect the innings on a less than favourable pitch.

The bowling wasn't that crash hot in the first innings either. We really struggled for wickets on the first day with the bowlers unable to break through. Tait was very ordinary but wasn't utilised all that well. He was underbowled in the second innings, probably because Ponting had lost confidence in him after his first up performance.

The second innings became all too much, just had too much to chase despite a great innings from Clarke and a nice cameo from Johnson.

Australia will be even more disappointed in the fact that this was their chance to break the record for the most consecutive test wins. And what's the loss even more painful is that India stopped them yet again (it was India which stopped Steve Waugh's team seven years ago).

Anyway, will be interesting to see how Australia reacts in Adelaide. Hayden will probably be back and Hogg should come into the side for Tait. India can still tie the series but they won't win the Border-Gavaskar trophy as Australia are the current holder and only need to tie the series to retain the title which they did in Sydney.

The final test is in Adelaide and starts on Australia Day (January 26).
