3rd Test: Sri Lanka v England at Galle

Sri Lanka
WU Tharanga, MG Vandort, KC Sangakkara, DPMD Jayawardene, LPC Silva, TM Dilshan, HAPW Jayawardene, WPUJC Vaas, UWMBCA Welegedara, SL Malinga, M Muralitharan

England
AN Cook, MP Vaughan, IR Bell, KP Pietersen, PD Collingwood, RS Bopara, MJ Prior, RJ Sidebottom, SJ Harmison, MJ Hoggard, MS Panesar

Sri Lanka leads the 3-match series 1-0. A draw in this one and they'll win the series. Sounds like the Galle Stadium has had quite a makeover. I hope the fans there can enjoy it.

Vaughan won the toss and decided to field first.

Re: 3rd Test: Sri Lanka v England at Galle

Sri Lanka 71-2 at lunch after 18 overs.

Both Vandort and Tharanga were out to somewhat questionable decisions. Apparently the heat is oppressive out there. Sangakkara and Jayawardene were each hitting boundaries in the overs before lunch, and if they can get a good partnership going, the English fielders and bowlers will be withering early.

Re: 3rd Test: Sri Lanka v England at Galle

Good partnership between Sangakkara and Jayawardene.
Sri Lanka is 132-2 at tea, after 44 overs.

Not a whole lot of runs in that session, but no wickets either. England will be getting frustrated.

Re: 3rd Test: Sri Lanka v England at Galle

Sangakkara out for 46 after tea, Sri Lanka 132-3

Re: 3rd Test: Sri Lanka v England at Galle

The runs are really drying up for Sri Lanka, and now Silva is out too.
138-4

Re: 3rd Test: Sri Lanka v England at Galle

they take drinks with 2 overs left

totally ridiculous

and the captains refusing to play 2 longer session and go without lunch is so stupid. Vaughan especially could regret this if England fall a couple of overs short chasing on the final day.

Yah, you hit on one of my pet peeves. I thought they should make a rule change for situations like these, but then leave it on the shoulders of the captains. Let them explain their actions when it blows up in their face

Re: 3rd Test: Sri Lanka v England at Galle

4/147 at stumps. The Sri Lankan batters were offered the light and they took it without hesistation.

Mehela Jayawardene is 51 not out at the moment, England will be very keen to get rid of him early tomorrow.

Re: 3rd Test: Sri Lanka v England at Galle

After a delayed start, Sri Lanka is 211-4 at lunch on day 2.
They've only made it though 75 overs so far.

No wickets fell in this first session. Jayawardene is on 71, while Dilshan has scored a relatively quick 45 (compared to some of the other batsmen).

Yesterday, Chamara Silva took 26 balls to score one run!!! He scored his only run when facing ball no. 22. Ha!!!!! He deserves an award of some sort for managing this impressive feat.

Re: 3rd Test: Sri Lanka v England at Galle

Hahahahahahahahaha!!!!!

There goes Prasanna Jayawardene, the guy who got 2 ducks in a test in Australia (one of them on the first ball) accumulating one more duck in his collection.

This time on the third ball, and that too to Ravi Bopara!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hahahahahahahahaha, I can't stop laughing. It's a mystery that this guy keeps getting selected with his batting form.

:D

Re: 3rd Test: Sri Lanka v England at Galle

Prasanna Jayawardene has scores of 51, 20, and 79 in his other three innings in this test series, so he's actually been doing okay lately.

He fell right after Dilshan was run out for 84.

Meanwhile, Mahela Jayawardene is still in there. He may pick up the pace now that he is starting to run out of partners. He's up to 109 not out, and Sri Lanka is at 306-6.

It's only Day 2, but this test seems to be heading for a draw. England, it seems, have virtually no chance to win. Sri Lanka could still win I suppose if Murali and friends pick up some quick wickets.

Re: 3rd Test: Sri Lanka v England at Galle

Jayawardene and Vaas putting together a quality partnership, good for 92 runs so far.

Sri Lanka 379-6, with Jayawardene up to 149 and Vaas at 41.

Re: 3rd Test: Sri Lanka v England at Galle

6/384 at stumps, Vaas is 46 and Jayawardene is 149 not out. England dropped a few catches today, their fielding was well below par and probably cost them an opportunity at batting today.

This game like the other one looks as if it will be a drawn game. Bad light cost really cost this game of a lot of overs. Rain is also forecast for tomorrow as well which means that more overs will be lost. A draw is seemingly more likely as the game gets older.

Re: 3rd Test: Sri Lanka v England at Galle

The score is up to 428-6.

Jayawardene and Vaas have noticably picked up the pace so far today! They're up to 173 and 65 respectively. They've scored at the rate of about 5 per over so far this morning. A welcome change from the first two days.

Re: 3rd Test: Sri Lanka v England at Galle

Vaas out for 90, Sri Lanka 471-7.
That's his second-highest test score ever!

Jayawardene up to 189, closing in on a double century.

Re: 3rd Test: Sri Lanka v England at Galle

well Jayawardene finally ended up with a 200.

England are useless

13/2 after 4.2 Overs

Vaas taking a wicket after scoring 90 and one run out to make things worse

Re: 3rd Test: Sri Lanka v England at Galle

Sri Lanka declared at 499-8
(Jayawardene not out on 213)

England 24-4 at lunch!

That single session had more excitement than the previous 2 days added up together. England completely collapsed in their 8 overs. Poor old Murali isn't even going to get a chance to bowl at this rate.

This match has gone from a likely draw to England praying for rain to save them.

Re: 3rd Test: Sri Lanka v England at Galle

Bopara out 3rd ball after lunch, England 25-5!!!

Re: 3rd Test: Sri Lanka v England at Galle

England have slipped to an embarassing 6/47. So much for this game heading for a draw!!

Paul Collingwood has top score with 14 not out and Alistair Cook made 13 earlier. What makes this even worse is that England has faced only 14 overs, adding to their pathetic effort so far.

Also, Chanaka Welegedara is making his debut in this game. His full name is Uda Walawwe Mahim Bandaralage Chanaka Asanka Welegedara, a rival to Chaminda's Vaas' long held title of having the longest full name in the Sri Lankan cricket team. :p
