Any thoughts, views and news on Adil Rashid, especially if you're Yorkshire follower and you've got some inside info on him.

Sounds like, the last two seasons under Jason Gillespie he's started to get his act together and is now looking at being a part of the England set-up in the future?

Adil Rashid picked for the 1 day side in this NZ v England series, lets hope he gets picked and make his mark with the ball primarily along with the bat!

They were discussing his prospects tonight and last night on SKY, but they were saying that he may be left carrying the drinks as on previous occasions, but the SKY pundits were all saying he should play, so hopefully he'll get a chance?

Interesting point made on SKY last talking about Rashid. Amir Sohail said that Rashid shouldn't go up on his toes as that slows his movement down as he goes through the crease and make his flight more loopy, he said on the UAE wicket he should try and get more pace and push the ball through more. Today they've said that one of the Pakistani bowlers was slow... slow as Rashid.

More to the point, Rashid is too slow for the current condition of the pitch. He may be more effective in the 2nd innings when it has taken some wear.
In the 1st innings batsmen had time to adjust even if they weren't picking him, this meant that could rock forward or back while picking their scoring shots.

Hopefully Rashid will take this on board and find a way that works for him on these kind of pitches in the longer form of the game.

They're playing...
England
  • Alastair Cook(c)
  • Moeen Ali
  • Ian Bell
  • Joe Root
  • James Taylor
  • Ben Stokes
  • Jonny Bairstow(wk)
  • Samit Patel
  • Adil Rashid
  • Stuart Broad
  • James Anderson
That's not bad the only one I got wrong was Alex Hales an I was doubtful about him. Good to see Samit playing, I like Samit as a player. Good also to see Taylor getting a chance as well.

So, Rashid not selected for the SA series, this is from the ECB site:

“Adil Rashid showed plenty of promise in the UAE but the conditions in South Africa make the likelihood of playing two spinners extremely remote. Although he would have been selected as a back up spinner we feel there is an excellent opportunity for him to spend some time developing his white ball skills in the lead up to the ICC World T20 in March. It is likely that Adil will travel to Australia to play for a Big Bash franchise."

To me that is just soft soaping the facts - currently Rashid is effective in white ball cricket where batters are looking to attack him every ball but is unlikely to have as much impact in tests where his lack of control means batters can always just wait for the bad ball, playing yet more white ball cricket is unlikely to change that. That said, unless we have a really dry summer and a spinner comes out of nowhere Rashid will probably still get on the plane this time next year for the trips to Bangladesh and India.

Sounds about right. As everyone says just about everywhere else on the web when discussing spin, the chances of England finding and developing a good spinner, especially a leg-spinner seems extremely remote. The finger spinner Jeetan Patel recently made the observation that English spinners don't practice enough, with no idea of the fitness/practice regime they have at County and England level, I can't comment, but watching television and listening to our ****** (Fill in your most derogatory name you can come up with) footballers who earn obscene amounts of money and then moan about having to attend pre-season training, I just wonder if it's an English thing and perhaps different to elsewhere? I'd love to be a fly on the wall and follow Rashid around for a week at some key points in the year and just see what he/they all do.
