Norton used to slow my PC down so I uninstalled it. I haven't used any anti virus for a long time. But I recently found out that my PC was badly affected. Lost a lot of files :cry Could you tell me if Kaspersky or whichever you have been using is reliable because I need to get a good anti virus soon.
Put Norton back on your pc. It's the best even though it slows your pc. You need to keep it on there as back up just in case you get viruses on your pc. Kaspersky is not as reliable. Trend is good.

I saw in TechGuru (A T.V Show) that AvAST! is the best free available anti-virus software.
With those free antivirus software programs there is one problem, they like to update your pc when you go on the internet, every single time.
I am going to get my own version of Norton Anti virus software. I am used to it and I don't have any problems with it.

Re: Anti-Virus

Regular updates are a good thing though, it means you're protected against a larger number of current threats.

Nortons is just bloatware, the footprint and resource usage is way too large and you get one update per week, if lucky. The only reason it ever got a foothold into the market is that it's given away or pre-installed with a 3 month trial on most machines.

Re: Anti-Virus

I would not wish Norton on my worst enemy, for exactly the reasons MC stated. The same goes for McAfee.

For what it's worth, I've found NOD32 to be by far the best AV product, or if you want a free solution, AVG (with all the bloat turned off)

Have tried the free versions of anti virus software and they are a real turn off.
Norton is the best one that I am happy with. I don't have any problems with it, neither do my parents as they are happy with norton. It does the job without pissing you off.

With AVG, I had this on my parent's old pc and it blew it up literally because it kept on installing the same thing every single time we were trying to access the internet.
Worse still, it would stop us from opening up applications like microsoft word.
With Norton, it does all the updates when you switch off the pc.

Re: Anti-Virus

The main thing is that is that your happy and that it works for you. I can't say that I ever had any majoir issues with Norton, apart from the normal complaints (bloat etc) but I wouldn't go back to it.

Yep very happy with it.

Re: Anti-Virus

One thing people need to realise is that virus catching in your files is not a sign of a good antivirus. Some antiviruses even detect things like trainers etc. as viruses as they have memory hooks.

avast! has been by far the best, out of the free solutions, and I can confidently say that the home edition comes on par with the performance, reliability and safety of Kaspersky. NOD32 is a bit more secure but I don't think it deserves my money over something as powerful as avast. My windows installation has been running for over 8 months for the first time, because I installed avast this time. :p

Re: Anti-Virus

I've tested various AV solutions and Kaspersky and Avast are among the best. As far as Norton or Mcafee go, I'd rather install malware on my PC.

Re: Anti-Virus

Yeah that's pretty much my statement too. Virus > McAfee or Norton. Free yet more effective. [At frustrating you and bloating your system.]
