APS: 2007/08 Season

Re: APS 1st XI 2007/08

"Melbourne Grammar: Shaw (is Dunnell still around ??)."
-South Swans

Yes, Dunell is still around and likely to domminate for MGS. After 500+runs in yr 11, he is ready to knock up plenty of runs again this year. He is likely to play Essendon 2's aswell so watch his name in the paper. (not to mention a big chance for house captain)

K, now I reckon Melbourne will have a good tilt at the premiership. A batsman like that can make so much difference. That guy's a freak.

Re: APS 1st XI 2007/08

dunnell = gun

Also, lachie gooley will be a major threat to oppposition teams, scoring 250 runs from only 8 games last year. His ability to creep under the oppositions radar is incredible and all of a sudden he's just made a 50. Has also been working very hard during the off season and has developed a very mean short ball... devastated teams in england during the holiday's tour.

Will Paynibus is also going to be a major threat, with his silky technique and beautiful strokeplay, not to mention that pull shot... (and offies aka doug gott)

The best bowling attack (apart from HC the filthy dogs) for one.

Handel, Everett, Jayaweera, Axais, Breen.

Well, it seems that mgs have been left out of the equation here... lets have a run down on their intimidating lineup for 07, their spin attack is of unprecedented quality:

J. Holdsworth: has been touted by Terry Jenner as the next big thing in Australian spin bowling. Has had back problems, which have prevented him showcasing his extraordinary talent, which some liken to Harbhajan Singh.
T. Morris: Another injury struck star. This bloke is a genius with a nut in his hand. A left arm orthodox whose famously holds the best APS bowling figures of 8/15 from 5, and to cap it off he is more than handy with the gloves
L.Gooley: well here is mr versatile. Some days he feels like sending down the hand grenades and on others he feels like rolling the arm over at 145 into a stiff breeze. Either way, he will either take your head off or bamboozle.
C. Shaw: here is another bloke with explosive 'fire'power. Not only talented with the bat, word on the grapevine is that this man has left the fast bowling fraternity in order to focus on his meteoric rise in leg spin bowling, which one new zealand school felt the wrath of.
C.Wischer and L.Cameron: out and out geniuses-the list of quality is endless...
M. Wilson: Well if this man can't perform with a 30 over old kookaburra in his hand i dont know who can. Forged from the harsh fires of BOLTON LODGE, his offspinners fool countless batsman with some beautiful flight and giant rip. Following in the footsteps of SK, he has thoroughly learnt to 'pitch it on middle and off!!!"

This does seem to be a pretty daunting line up of bowling, highlighted by these three:
I have only ever faced Holdsworth once, where I couldn't believe it was possible to spin it that much. Don't know how he got his name though - 'Doco'?
From what I hear Gooley seems to have eventually recovered from his chronic groinal problems that have held back his bowling career. Just wondering Eric, would it be the same Groinal problem that struck down M Wilson?
And i cant believe that Shaw has taken up leg spin. I did hear a rumour that he had changed but this confirms it. It could well be the surprise move of the season.

Re: APS 1st XI 2007/08

Re: APS 1st XI 2007/08

Re: APS 1st XI 2007/08

When GC played MGS last year they had a fairly good lineup. But Gooley and Shaw both bowled pretty slow. They did have a good spin line up thought, and Club Cricket you have forgotten Betts. He bowled about 35 overs straight and went for around 2 an over. Really air tight bowler. MGS sound like a genuine title challenger. Who else is looking good for 07? What are Hailebury and Scotch looking like? - No biased comments please.

Last year when MGS played GC Gooley was unable to bowl (but is likely to bowl this year - a frightening prospect for batsmen) and shaw was bowling for the first time with a new action. Since then he has decided to bowl occasional mediums but mainly leg spinners. The spinners have really come along during the off season.

Bettsy bowled all right last year, will bowl again this year, but the likes of Holdsworth, Wilson and Morris were injured or too young at that stage, as well as Shaw not bowling spin. All in all, it will be a formidable spin bowling line up with Dunnell there as well.

Hailebury will be dominated by class at the top end and will once again have a good tilt at the premiership.

Scotch will lack depth, will be reasonably handy but not anything special.

Re: APS 1st XI 2007/08

sounds like you a spinning some stuff club cricketer. Do you personally play 1st XI for MGS?

Re: APS: 2007/08 Season

Can we have each squad/possible teams posted so we can get an idea of the competition this year?

Re: APS: 2007/08 Season

I believe the GC team will look something like this:
Shaw 'four time' Kitchen (c)
Matt 'minga' Lugg
Angus 'corkall' Nice
Tom 'wom' Beaumont
Tom 'CHimney' Summers
Llewyn 'no ball' butler
Ned 'maggot' Rogerson
Tom 'grass cutter' Roberts
Jack 'Junior' Wood
Alex 'pastey' carr
Donald 'UNIT' Sahlstrom
Alex 'Dog' Herd

Re: APS: 2007/08 Season

J.Holdsworth could be playing for Victoria, this time next year. Perfect hooker and coverdrive, this man can really tear, you apart

Re: APS: 2007/08 Season

I heard that J Holdsworth has secretly been dealing with t. Hodge, a MGS rower and has been using his steroids/supplements to chisel his upper body...ready to tear apart the APS. I also heard that Grosey, the new Scotch captain is being scouted by the Tasmanians...i saw him out a couple of nights last weekend, off his head, and he keeps this form off the field up, he won't be taking many wickets this season. Robbie Chancellor i think will be the surprise packet this year...with Carey hoping to 'surge' up the table
