Been a while since last post... all the Australians must be mourning :D

Australia lose the series 2-0, but the score line doesn't really show just how close fought that series was. They are two very even sides, plus the series should have been a four match one, meaning the last two would probably once again been riveting and close fought. Cricket fans have been let down here by the scheduling of this series.

Good signs for both sides I think from that series. With India being notoriously strong in India and Australia very strong at home, I don't think it's going out on a limb to say Australia would probably bring home a series in Australia if they played again now.

Now onto what should have been a three match ODI series that has now turned into a two match series due to the first being rained out. Both sides are resting players, particularly Australia with three front-runners out for the rest of the series. So lots of debutantes to get a first look at the two best ODI sides in the world currently... let's see who has the greater depth.

Australia did match it for much of the series (if you can call it that!), but in the end the difference(s) were clear. Our inability to break set-in partnerships, combined with our inability to form them ourselves was glaringly obvious. As happens every time we play in India, the openers set us up well, only for the middle-order to capitulate to either spin or reverse swing. '

The list of offenders is much the same - but of course no-one will be dropped from the side. Down to No.5 in world rankings now, but the selectors will accept that as near enough, good enough.

India are very good at limited overs cricket too, so don't count on our being able to bully them with big hitting and fast bowling. Doesn't count for as much over there.

Why are all these players being rested? Is it a sign of this form of the game's irrelevance?

What else have they got to do? Hard as they are, it was after all only two Tests over there.

This is why the Test and limited overs teams should be markedly different to begin with: more specialists focusing on their particular roles and playing more of that form of cricket domestically.

The thing is we have the talent at domestic level to win The Ashes. Blokes like Khawaja are making double-tons at domestic level, while Hussey and North are failing consistently. (North did just ton up, still doesn't excuse all his failures) Hauritz took what, 3-220 or something like that in that second test, while O'Keefe took 3-25 and 4-90 back home.

The talents there, the Selectors just don't want to use it.

Everybody is going to be playing some Shield games before the Ashes so I'd say they are bringing them home to give them extra rest before a long period on the trot. The guys that are resting are of absolute importance to the Ashes.

India have been playing for a long period as well and this series is of little importance. The scheduling and the rain make what should be a big series quite minute, so India are resting half their team at once pretty much.

Plus they might have slight niggles or a little sick or something so they decided to not risk it before the Ashes (Australian players that is). Australia will never field a weak side against India if they can help it, no matter the form.

And looks like the rain has held off enough in Kochi for now. 2nd ODI about to get underway.

The sides have plenty of debutantes, going to be an interesting match.

There is a fair chance that Australian bowling line up will cop a pasting..

Marsh out for for a duck of 11 balls, he's always seems to struggle to get moving early in an innings.

A Paine brainfade brings it to 2 down for the Aussies.

Marsh had trouble going forward. He was leaving, leaving and then all of a sudden went forward to a shorter ball. He needed to move forward more often but to the right ball.

Paine's strike rate of 37 annoyed him so he tried to go over the top... something you don't do if you can't find the middle.

I would have had White in at 4, leaving Hussey for a bit later. But Huss is in now. He's gotta make a big enough score to set a platform for some quick scoring. India's bowlers have been brilliant so far.

What and innings from White at the end 89 only 49 balls. 289 should hopefully be enough although it's an inexperienced bowling line up.

Looks like the last game tomorrow will be washed out. India's clouds have decided to release the entire Indian Ocean onto the country at once.

Play still looks unlikely, next update at 12.15 says cricinfo. If they do play I don't see there being more than 15 overs each.

I know it has absolutely poured there for the last week and a half but after a day and a half of sunshine you'd expect a supposed international standard ground to be reasonably covered to stop water getting through, with well planned out drainage systems and a couple of supersoppers. These Indian grounds are worse than Australian club grounds.

Is it still a minimum of 20 over each to get a game or is that changed/wrong?
Probably is, I forget. If it is then there is practically no hope of play, it gets dark at 4 pm in Goa this time of year with the clouds around, next update is 12:15, 40 overs taking approximately 3 hours with a shortened break... play will have to start pretty soon.

It's raining in Sydney too for the Sri Lankans vs NSW tour match. At least Queensland is playing I suppose :)
