Well Fawad Ahmed probably outbowled Nathan Lyon in the 3 day match, will be interesting to see if the selectors have the gonads to get him in for the first test.
 
So Rogers is out which leaves a headache at the top of the order. The only alternative looks to be Shaun Marsh although he hasn't opened in a test or first-class match for at least a couple of years. Steve Smith will bat at three Clarke has confirmed.

The other selection headache is regarding the deck and depending on the pitch either Adam Voges or Fawad Ahmed will make their test debut. If the pitch is more favourable for the spinners then Fawad will play with Watson and Mitch Marsh likely to be selected. If Fawad doesn't play Voges will likely come into the team in place of Mitch Marsh.
 
West Indies won the toss and elected to bat. They are 1/47 after 12 overs.

Went to bed with West Indies 3/106 and then woke up today to find out we'd won by nine wickets. Was even more surprised that West Indies didn't lose their fourth wicket until they reached 180-odd and then fell in a massive hole again.

Have to say this game didn't reach many heights at all although the one height it did reach was Adam Voge's century on debut, and not out as well. What a star. :thumbsu:

Journeymen, how so? North was around for a while and Marsh is still a prominent fixture in the test side and will no doubt get more opportunities in the ODI and T20 teams.

Funnily enough, Western Australia and New South Wales were the only two states to have players in the playing XI in the first test.

NSW: Warner, Smith, Clarke, Watson, Haddin, Starc, Lyon, Hazlewood
WA: S. Marsh, Voges, Johnson
 
Great start to the series by the Aussies. Hopefully England's recent performance in the West Indies is a good indicator of how they will perform in the Ashes series!

That said, looking to the second test, do the Aussie's have a selection dilemna? If Rogers is fit, does he come in for Marsh? Or maybe it's best not to change a winning team?
 
west indies cricket has become a real issue for the sustainability of the game as any other problem facing the ICC today. Yet again a reason why the current ICC board is not healthy for world cricket
