Australia vs England - The Ashes 2021/22

Smithy handled things nicely yesterday.. was back close to his best with the willow, was tacticly sound and never took his foot off England's throat by declaring when they were cooked mentally and physically then sending them in during the tricky evening session. After losing two they got lucky with an early stumps due to the electrical storm.. probably their only luck of the match.

What did you think of his performance Luke, TJ, Sharkman, Sooz, given it is his first role as skipper for three years.

Certainly not. George Bailey said they intended giving Harris a run this time. Why? Of he continues to fluff his chances. Please no more bites of the cherry if he fails to post at least a half ton in the second..

Gutsy, attritional cricket by all three. The England bowlers kept up the pressure all day.. gave them nothing but they gutsed in out specially during the difficult evening session to lay the platform for a solid score. Survive the second new ball and the Poms will wilt in the sweltering conditions

Harris has a few innings to cement his spot in my opinion. He has a start now but needs to go on with it. I think he will get a gig in Melbourne regardless of what happens from here as the selectors have said he'll get an opportunity as an opener.

England were okay on day one but bowled a bit too short which had consequences on day two as Australia's middle and lower order got going. to build what was a pretty strong total.

Yes the curator said he left a touch more grass on it this time. No doubt that was a CA directive to ensure the match goes its full duration. I'd not call it all that batting friendly just yet tho LJ._

I reckon it is a relatively flat deck. Root and Malan batted well and showed that if you did the hard yards that you could score well. Australia prized both batters out after the dinner (shouldn't be dinner really, dinner should be the second interval) break and the middle and lower order followed fairly meekly. Australia bowled well and England batted poorly aside from Root, Malan and Stokes' cameo.

Smith has been good, can't fault his performance as captain in this test really. Sent them in at the right time and made good bowling changes when needed. Green has troubled Root and to bring him on to get his wicket was a good move as was bringing back Starc to claim the wicket of Malan. Starc has bowled well in this game, continues his good day/night test record.

Green is making Root his bunny this series. Cameron 2 / Joe 0.

Green certainly has the wood over him in this series so far. His bowling has been great, a very good fifth bowling option. Hopefully he can sort out his batting, in particularly knowing where his off stump is as he seems to be having issues with this at the moment. His bowling has come on in leaps and bounds this series so far.

Australia are 1/45 in their second innings, 282 runs ahead. They'll probably aim to bat for the next two sessions and declare around the tea break and have a crack at England in the evening session. They should aim for a lead of around 500 by that point and given themselves close to four sessions to bowl England out.

That seems to be the plan. I was a touch critical of Smithy not enforcing the follow on. Always one for never releasing the pressure valve. But the plan is to cook the Pom bowlers so we batted again. Luckily we only lost the one before stumps. But having Harris still there does not instill any confidence.

Green only needed that first wicket and it was full steam ahead. Said as much himself "getting my first Test wicket has taken the monkey off my back".
I regard batting as Green's stronger suit. He'll come good sometime this series. Has a couple of little things to tweak but has time on his side. What a talent we have in him.

50 wickets in pink ball matches now. Pinkie and Starc go well together as it is the ball that swings the most. He still sprays em around and got lucky with a couple of gift wickets.

Lifted then fell off a cliff losing four valuable wickets before stumps.. including their skipper Joe Root. Poor Joe he is finding our bowlers a harder nut to crack than those that made him the most productive batsmen in this calendar year.

Stokes and Buttler will again turn into white ball fiends but it will not be sufficient and Australia should wrap up the Test by dusk.

Just on Harris i reckon Usman Khwaja should replace him.

You been whooping it up over the weekend Luke. Good to have you back on deck.

Harris is getting as much forum time and bashing as Watto copped.
It's because he's a better player as a T20 player.
As is Warner and a few others.
What's made them so good is that they've changed formats.
They started out as t20 players.
Now they can play in tests.

Harris or Watson? If Harris he has does not have a good technique or concentration, two essentials for Test cricket. I have not seen him play T20. Yes Warner started out in ODI/T20 then went to Tests, whereas most come into Tests from state red ball cricket as you will know Sooz...

Both.

Just saw something on foxcricket.
They brought up something that happened to Joe Root who is England's skipper.
What happened was Joe Root copped the ball in his nuts twice. Once without wearing a box and one when he was wearing a box.

Must of hurt when he got hit when he wasn't wearing a box.

Squished up nuts. Ouch
