Only issue will be Potsy's friggin leggies

Use your feet. Irv hates it. Don't you, Irv?

Waka,

I have requested an explanation from Don, Who has just forwarded my email to the match committee. Appears to me just like the Thursday nights scheduling it's really depends who you are.

Well there you go. I'm not really fussed either way. I'm all for the rules being followed and we should get in but Inzie's right, I'm not sure I would enjoy bowling to Yater in the form he's showing this year.

The fact is Waka, if you guys make it then you wont ave to play East. You will play the best winner (cause you are the best loser) which would be Wendouree. Mounties would face east. Either way it looks like it is destined to be a Wendouree East final.

I'm now thinking of it this way, we lost therefore not good enough to be in the semi's anyway. A second chance is nice but if you're not good enough to win your way through then you don't deserve to be there.

How's the bruise on the rib cage from that blistering short one I gave you Thursday night anyway?

The rep side flogged Castlemaine district yesterday.

Bowled them out for 151 with 30 extras in that total.

P Moore 4 wickets, T Geddes 3, J knowles 2 & Branch 1

The boys then launched 4 for 330 in reply.

Sam Miller 100
Wright 69
Trower 46
Pyke 52no
Cape 41
Knowles 10no

Very clinical display

I watched for about 30 mins and Sam and whoever opened with him were belting the hell out of them. Obviously Sam can reeeeaaaalllly bat and was fantastic to watch (note to self, don't bowl on his pads) but the right hander he opened with was almost as good. They both hit the ball beautifully.

REPORTED/SUSPENDED PLAYERS
Ashley George (Mt. Clear 1st XI)--- Guilty --- suspended 4 matches (Semi Final Twenty/20, Round 6 and 2 matches suspended sentence until end of 2009/2010 season)

So my understanding of this is that he misses tonight's Semi Final of the 20/20, this Saturday's 1 day game, and then has a 2 game suspended sentence from there? I've gotta say this, for what he did and the fact that he showed remorse as soon as he did it knowing full well he stuffed up the sentence does not fit the crime. I'm thinking why are the BCA making a tough stance now? Where was that around early March last year? If Jeffo was Captain.......maybe he might have got off. I think Paull owes Mr Whinney a beer.

im not sure the bca have all of a sudden made a tough stance.. i copped 2 matches after my little outburst in last years semi final. ash got off light if you ask me.. i missed 2 2 day games which is obviously 4 weeks in total. ash only misses a 20/20 game and a 1 day game, so effectively he misses one week.. if i smashed the stumps over in the last years semi, i would hate to think how many weeks i wouldve missed.. 2 inconsistent for my liking..whats worse, telling the umpire he made a very $*#@&!% ordinary decision or smashing stumps all over the place.. i'm not saying i didnt deserve to be suspended but in footy terms i gave someone a left jab and ash king hit someone behind play.. you make up your own mind on that one...go the custards!!!

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

Dave Hoey from the darley 2nds got 4 weeks for hitting his helmet leaving the arena and i copped a 4 game suspended sentence because i was captain that week. Surely smashing the stumps is worse than hitting your helmet.

i am with you potsy. very lucky

We'll see what happens tomorrow night at the tribunal with another case from DIV 1 going up. I don't think you can call a trend one way or the other from one appearance so far this season.

I will note that as far as I am concerned player behaviour is better now than it has been for as long as I can remember... what do you think?

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

I think the BCA is slightly over-officious in tribunal matters. Last year, a kid (playing u/16s) got 3 matches for dropping his dacks at the opposition, as a joke. He was mates with them all and every laughed and it was all good. He ended up quitting cricket because of it. Also, i got cautioned after being caught off a bump ball. All i did was wait until the umpire gave me out, and when he did, i walked off.

Hearing you Moe. I got the full story of that and it upset us quite a bit too. One of our kids last year got 2 games for throwing his bat after leaving the playing arena. The 17yr old coach got off the 2 game suspension coz both kids didn't know the player/captain/coach gets equal rule and would have missed finals in the seniors. That kid hasn't come back this year and we're struggling for players. It's things like that which can turn kids, and senior blokes, away from the game. I'm all for players behaving themselves but fair suck of the sav, we're all playing competitive sport and we only crack the sh*ts because we care about it. Surely a harmless moon in jest or a throw of your own gear off the field when you get yourself out (not in dissent toward an umpire) is part of the reason we play the game and can be accepted by the officials. Most of the umpires and tribunal members have played the game before, hell Ron Jennings played the game for 123 years and gave everyone hell, they should all know how it feels out there.

After fully understanding Ash's punishment now (initially I thought he got the full 4 matches) I think it's fair enough. Don't know about including the 20/20 in the 2 weeks though, are there any suspended players out there that could take a week off their sentence if their club enters the 20/20 comp? I think not, he should be done til after the break.

tend to agree irv. smahing the stumps down for everyone to see is not on & deserves a penalty.

walking off & in your disappointment/frustration you let off a bit off steam, that to the majority of the crowd doesnt notice, shouldnt draw 4 weeks. we didnt even know you gave the ump a spray at the time, thats how unnoticeable it was.

i dont condone players giving very public sprays at umpires. but some commonsense needs to come into it. in ur case, i reckon the ump could have played it smarter by pulling you aside after the game & say 'irv, giving me a spray was pretty silly, i know you were not happy with the decision, pull your head in next time'.

an experienced player like yourself would probably have calmed down enough by that stage to accept the gentle warning from the ump.

if the player involved is still upset & gives the ump another spray, then by all means report him.

i just reckon the severity & how public the dissent is should play a part. not just a blanket crack down.

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

In relation to the whole player dissent and suspension issue, i agree with Waka in saying that when players crack the sh!ts a little, it shows that we care about the game. Of course on the rare occasion, some players can croos the line. But the BCA have become over sensitive in the past few years. Im not sure why there has been a recent crack down on player behaviour, because i dont think its a problem in Ballarat cricket.
