Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

After speaking to a few players over the weekend i was very suprised to hear about the support to our country week representatives during the week.

I refer to the fact that Don & Ron were not at all seen at 1 game last week.

I don't know Rons work committments so he may have a valid reason but for Don who is a paid employee, he has some questions to answer.

Rod Ward & the ballarat football league last year sent a senior football / netball & under 18 squad to the weeks carnival. Accomodation, food, travel expenses all looked after aswell as taking trainers, officials and a support staff for the week. WHY? Is the ballarat cricket association so different?

To make players be up on a bus at 6.15am, play a full days cricket, be home at dark and to repeat this for 5 days is a disgrace. My hat goes off to the players & coaches for not only lasting the week but to make the final. I've even heard of players having to wake blokes up who were catching up on sleep during an innings??? Is the cricket association so unfinancial they cannot look after 12 players & 2 coaches who are representing our town/district? They shouldn't be unfinancial with all the bullsh*t fines clubs have to pay!

Last week clubs were asked to donate some money for bushfire appeal (good idea) but were also asked to drop money off to lydiard st. How about get off your ass and jump in car and get to the games and collect it yourself. Hey, atleast if your seen at a game it might earn you some respect.

IMO - In my opinion.

Definitely not in his own interests to avoid the tribunal hearing, however there are a couple of things to think about...

Firstly the whole issue with regards to the report because of an article in The Courier would be news worthy, maybe the media need to find out?

Secondly, Freedom of speech is sacrosanct, there are laws to protect it, as long as the letter isn't slanderous. Legal advice may help to determine the extent that he is exposed because of the content of the letter.

There other options as well some thought needs to be put into it email me for more info - It's not too hard to work out how to get my email address.

Good Luck.

Steve.

Hi all, this is Andrew, the older and less well-oiled Tonka Truck, not Cam as per previous posts under this username;

RE my brother's original post, I'd just like to say thanks to everyone for the support, particularly Cam for starting this discussion and to Steve Bathurst who I know has been a vocal critic of the BCA on this issue. I have felt under a bit of pressure the last couple of days, so its nice to know i'm not the only one concerned about the way the BCA is being run at the moment.

Steve, how are things? its been a while since work days, hope alls going well. thanks for your advice, i will probably be in touch at some point, would love to go the whole hog with this. i'm sensing people are pretty frustrated and there seems to be a push for change in the upper echelons of the BCA. Perhaps this might be the issue that people will say enough's enough.

thanks again,
Andrew

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

Would have been very tough going up and down the freeway to play a weeks cricket. Especially when you have games in Camberwell & Box Hill with the westgate & monash freeways being a nightmare. The BFL booked us into a 4 star motel in Shep and spas in most rooms - the Darley blokes anyway.

The league has the most money in the bank for any country cicket association in Victoria. I do not know the exact figures (so technically speculation) but have been told this from high level VCCL staff a few years ago. Surely they could justify $5k-$8k for accommodation & some food for the week. Probably the difference in the 4 run loss and could have back to back titles.

Rumours are the BCA want to build new offices at the Eastern Oval so this is why fines are getting sent out left right and centre. You even get fined for spelling Napoleons wrong or just putting Naps/Sebas.

Again speculation but have heard from reliable sources.

correct on the naps/sebas fine. a couple of seasons ago before the online lodgement of scoresheets, we were fined for writing naps/sebas instead of our complete team name. amazing, but true.

& yes from my years as president, the bca used to hold 3-4 presidents meetings a year (not sure if this still occurs). i recall a former president of another club asking what the stock pile of cash was for & our esteemed leader informed us it was for bca headquarters, which they were hopeful of gaining the land just outside the eastern oval on that vacant bloke near haymes paint. im not sure who owns that land (perhaps a pointie such as steveo might), but this pipedream was years ago & shows now sign of getting close.

Don't quote me, but I am fairly sure the BCA will be building next to the East Point FNC Rooms towards the scoreboard end in the near future (12 months).

G'day all. I'm pretty sure that Haymes has owned all of that land and the council is to take it over. Initially the plans had been to redevelop the whole area around the new netball court/carpark area even moving and rebuilding our dodgy old nets over to the carpark area. The biggest issue was the old folks who lived in the homes there. But I haven't heard anymore on that development and I don't think it will happen.

Our nets really struggle as they are used a hell of alot by the public and kids seem to enjoy climbing all over them. Mt Clear would have a similar problem. But I digress.

Swardsy is right. I'm sure the BCA were going to build next to East Point but that may have been tied in with the RSL's plans to build a new Ballarat headquarters there and move their pokies from Lyons Street. I believe that has been knocked on the head too so I don't know where the BCA development plans sit. The council is actually keen to get rid of pokies as much as possible, according to Pete Appleton.

And on Don Jake, since he has pulled the pin on umpiring he has been my team manager, a la Mr McCrae at Wendouree, and he has been fantastic for me and the club donating his time and efforts gratis.

I know it is logical to take pots at Don and others at the BCA when issues occur re: heat, but knowing the calibre of people there, such as Don, Alan Parker, Neil Lee, Mick Golding, etc, they are all fine blokes and I am positive they would have cricket and the players' welfare in mind at all times.

But with that in mind, I don't read the Courier, especially the letters to the editor, so I don't know what's going on with Tonks. And we pulled the pin well before tea on Black Saturday so we weren't affected there.

If you have issues with anything, why not email the BCA at bca@netconnect.com.au or ring them to voice your concerns. I know if I didn't have access to these blokes through old friendships I'd love to find out their thoughts and methods in dealing with these issues.

Just ask.

Id also imagine that over the years the Pointies would have copped their fair share of fines.

That's true. In order to not look as if we are being favoured in any way we have never received any special treatment but have had the book thrown at us plenty of times if we have stuffed up a form, etc. - my favourite being the young Point bloke who was suspended for a good number of matches for showing a mate on the boundary his bum cheek and almost got Swardsy (his coach) suspended. The kid has not played since.

You would need Elliot Ness to convince me of that young fella.

Swardsy needs to get some control over the juniors it seems !!!! We would never have that problem in the affluent suburb of Sebastopol.

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

With only one round to play for guys to get some votes who would be the favourites for the Cleary.

Yates would have to be up there with a few big runs & wickets. Trower has scored a few runs but North havent won many games. Johnson still taking wickets in winning sides at wendouree but probably not teh impact as last season?

Could be an interesting night.

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

With 554 runs and 23 wickets with one game to play, Yates would be a very short favorite and would get my $$$. Even more incredible considering he missed the first game.

I would think that Peter Moore, Eamon Johnson & Carl Haseloff will poll well.

Yeah Carl could be a bit of a dark horse. He has top scored in both games against us this year and has a few other scores to his name. But Yater would be hard to ignore..

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

Just going by results, i'd have them on this amount of votes leading into last round.

Yater - 10
Johnson - 9
J.Knowles - 7
J.Trower - 7

All on 6 votes
Carl, Fletcher, Wright (east), Moore, Appleton...

J.Knowles could be the smokey....

Very rough calculations but i reckon johnno will get alot of 1's because of standout effortsd ie; pykes 270, Begbie's 100's etc.
