Sooking? No sooking here Show. If you blokes are happy travelling down the highway to play cricket then great. You make some fair points in your "spray" but I'll speak for myself and plenty of other Ballarat cricketers by saying we're not overly keen on travelling down the highway to play Darley, especially when we're batting second week. Ok, maybe that's a bit of a sook but I think it's warranted.
I'm just one bloke with an opinion, throwing it all out there to start some interesting conversation just like we have now. I wonder how many of the Mounties boys who read this site will pipe up about the comments made against there team????

Greg, this is yet another poor and inaccurate post.

Given that Ballarat/Redan is the only team to have complained about the state of the turf wicket since Darley entered the competition (their appeal was rejected) I think it would be fair to say that “plenty of other Ballarat cricketers” are not particularly concerned about the state of the wicket come the second week.

Was the pitch to blame for several players being caught on the boundary playing immature shots when the game was in the balance? I don't think so.

And yes Greg, you are being a sook!!!

Maybe in an ideal world everyone can play on hard wickets so they can play across the line and hit everything to cow corner. However, where would the fun be in that? The great thing about turf pitches is the unpredictability, you don't hear bowlers complain when the pitch is a road. Plenty of volunteers out there who put hours into preparing the pitches each week for the BCA and they should be applauded.

Wiseman, you make some very good points.
Apparently Darley was victimised this season for the poor display an opposition side put in against them. They almost lost points, it's a weird one because how can a side be penalised for another sides poor performance.:)

Who is Greg??
That is a bit over the top Gospel.
Considering the boys down the highway had a good start to the season, it's fair to say that some sides took them lightly.
I still think Darley might take 4th position this season, which would be great for the competition as they have worked hard with their young blokes in the past.

The Wise Man's predictions for this Round:

Some cracking matches this round with plenty on the line for most teams before the X-Mas break. My predictions are as follows:

Golden Point v Darley:
On paper Darley should be too strong for the Golden Point boys. Look for the big names to stand up this round for the boys down the highway ... lesser known players such as Steve Riley could also play an important role.
Mt. Clear v East Brat:
I'm backing Mt.Clear for this game. Their negative style of cricket should ensure that everyone is on the fence by the thrid over which will make it hard for East to gain any momentum.
Nth Brat v Brat/Redan:
Possibly the match of the round. Both teams have struggled this season so it might be crunch time for both sides. Can the Nth Ballarat boys get a win before x-mas. Brat/Redan struggling under the weight of expectation that comes with winning a premiership.
Coronet v Naps/Sebas:
Should be an interesting battle, although I'd be backing Naps/Sebas to win with the inspirational words flowing from the head coach Peter Huntly.
Wedouree v Brown Hill:
When was the last time that a side won outright in a one-dayer. Sam Miller to return to form and plaster the Brown Hill attack all over the town. Johnson to add to his huge bag of wickets, he could possibly get all ten wickets against Brown Hill.

Thoughts on the Wise Man's predictions are welcome.

Quite a good summary there Wise Man. My thoughts for this weekend are as follows . . .

Golden Point v Darley:
Should be a close game with both sides having a similar start to the year. Darley may look to bring in one-day specialist Victor Czapp for the match which could cause a few headaches for the Golden Point bowling line-up.

Mt. Clear v East Ballarat:
Match of the round. Two of the best sides in the competition battling it out in what could be a Grand Final preview. East Ballarat to win with their attacking brand of cricket causing Mount Clear some problems.

North Ballarat v Ballarat/Redan:
Given that North Ballarat will be focussed on the game rather than the conditions (pitch, outfield etc) they should be too strong for Ballarat/Redan this week.

Coronet v Naps/Sebas:
Naps/Sebas should be too strong in this game with their strong batting and bowling line-up's.

Wendouree v Brown Hill:
Wendouree to win comfortably over the hapless Brown Hill.

I don't mean to rude, but who is Steve Riley?? Some unusual predictions Wiseman. I would have thought Nth Ballarat are certainties.

Probably not far off the mark...Darley are definate improvers this season and this game should be a good accurate test to see how much they have improved
I can understand your theory on why Mt Clear will beat East but i still think East are a better unit.....
I think B/Redan will be too strong but it would be good to see Nth win 1 before XMAS
Coronet to upset Naps
Brown Hill to upset Wendouree.....

All said and done could be another expensive day at the bar as rain will washout comp again...

definately a wash out this week at the moment with big rain forecast for friday could make things interesting after christmas with lots of teams still a chance for finals

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

As a newbe to Ballarat Cricket I'm interested in why Darley play in the BCA and not a local comp, Their decision or are they not wanted/liked locally?

That is a fair point Matajabaco.
I think the decision to put Darley in the BCA has been quite unusual as they are the only team that is not Ballarat based.
In saying that though some of their players have been great for the BCA.
Parker is a quality bloke and always gives 100%, Steenholdt came from Premier League, Blake and Dewar have shown a lot of potential and Cape is a class act.
The BCA is one of, if not the strongest country association in Victoria. It would be stupid not to have these blokes playing.
Imagine them playing in the GDCA.
Thought??

Steve Riley is a talented and highly underrated wicket-keeper/batsman with a big heart.

He always gives 100% and is often seen making gravity defying lunges to conserve runs.

He is also a very good keeper to spin as evidenced by his strong work behind the stumps when Brendan Parker has come onto bowl this year.

go easy don, double barrel & the lion show are new on this board & possibly havent realised that being critical of mt clear really isnt recommended here. perhaps a simple message posted stating that this is really a mounties appreciation board would be suffice.

Yeah Don, ease up.
After all we did beat a crap team outright and then beat those scum bags from down the highway by over 100 runs.
Are the joys of defending 340, putting 6 blokes on the boundary and bowling darts.
Go Mounties

The pressure is on the mounties though. to lose flag from here would be like essendon losing the 2000 premiership after thier choke the year before. It only takes one loss to lose another premiership.

Haha, no bad blood here mate. Just showing that the Mounties have the most runs for, the 2nd most wickets taken, the 2nd least runs against and equal 2nd least wickets against. Stats show that we arent that negative.

Exactly right The Don. Mount Clear have played the best cricket and deserve to be on top. Good even side with no real weak links. Cant falter their success.

Probably Darley's biggest game the club has had in the competition this week. IF they beat Golden Point they move two games clear of them and cement 4th spot. Hopefully Xmas parties dont influence the game.

hate to rain on your parade champ, but point arent the only 1s 1 game behind you. even if you win, you will still be 4th by just 1 game & your 4th spot will not be in cement, with a very tough run home & your superstar cape missing 4 some of them

It appears Darley and Mt Clear have some tension to release. Luckily other teams such as mine don't have to trap talk.
The way I see it is as follows:
Darley have recruited well and Mt Clear are on top at xmas.
Don't forget boys there are 7 other teams in the competition, it's not just about the big heads at Mt Clear or the pretenders at Darley.
