Merry Christmas lads,

very interesting results on the weekend and the 5 rounds in the new year will be crucial for all sides. Has there been such an even competition before with 5 or 6 sides all capable of making finals.

Good luck in the barossa thickedge.

the barossa! is that for a holiday or a permanent move???

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

just wondering what your thoughts are on the country week squad this year boys.. in my opinion there are a few guys that could consider themselves stiffer than a honeymooners snag.. not knowing the availability of some guys its hard to know but d.wright from east should be opening the batting 4 sure..and was available..can anybody shed some light on this matter.. there is no way an overseas player should play 4 ballarat in my opinion. he is not going to appreciate the cap like a local lad..he must play 4 nth.ballarat...theres still a naps flavour in the squad also.. thommo would be first picked in my team but i didnt understand banners selection..going down as a 2nd keeper doesnt make any sense to me..will he play as a batsmen anyway or just there to give pikey a spell if needed..if hes there to relieve pikey then wouldnt you pick a specialist keeper??nothing against banners, good bloke.. but there are better keepers and batsmen out there if you ask me..i always thought you had to earn your spot in the ballarat team, it seems there giving the caps away this year..maybe im 2 old school but ask jeffo and a few of the older guys and they will agree im sure..anyway, good luck to the guys going down this year..

tend to agree with you irv on the pommy. not sure how playing him improves the bca? alls that does in my opinion is say to the other associations, hey look, we have the really good import playing in our comp! i have nothing against north having him play for them at all, but i reckon those representing us should be from here.

hard to make comment on who else should be in the squad coz only the selectors know who is available. im guessing blokes like yater & johnson were not available, coz they would have to be picked.

Trower made a ton again today I hear. Has to be picked. They are there to win Country Week so I think you have to pick the best side you can. Wrighty may be stiff but Jon seems to be a bloody good player and deserves his spot. From my point of view Josh White and Brad Palmer should be there too BUT Trower has performed and plays in the BCA so should be more than eligible. Runs talk...bullshit walks.

I am with SteveO on this. The guy is a very good player and a good bloke as well. Was lucky at times against us yesterday and we dropped him on 80 but is all class and built a very good innings.

He plays in the association so should be able to represent the BCA.

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

Wow some big upsets this week. Darley get done on their home turf against North and the Hill knocking off East. Two teams well in the mix still on holidays it seems. With the calf injury the big question now is can Darley win without Steenholdt??? Two times he hasnt batted the batting has crumbled. And it also leaves a spot open for Country week. thoughts?

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

Couple of massive upsets, very tight on the ladder between 2nd and 7th with only 2 wins seperating them. I'm sure the selectors will find someone to take his spot, i hear a few of the two's players are putting their hands up to play so i'm guessing they'll be selected before a few of the standout performers this season... Not sure how a bloke who had only made 93 runs for the season before this round can be picked. and a bloke who has played one game for the season, has been injured ever since... Not sure who will replace Steeny but surely it has to be a top order bat????

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

Well its getting to that time of year again and im sitting at work on my computer, so i thought i would have a look at the what i thought would happen this year. Very close again and up to 7 teams are in the mix. This game could drop a couple off the pace though.
This is the teams who are in the mix's run home:

1. Wendouree:North, B/redan, Point, East
2. Mount Clear: Coronet, Naps, Darley, Point.
3. Golden Point: East, Coronet, Wendouree, Mountie.
4. Naps Sebas:B/Redan, Mountie, East, Hill.
5. East: Point, Hill, Naps, Wendouree.
6. Darley: Hill, North, Mountie, B/Redan
7. Hill: Darley, East, North, Naps.

My thoughts on End of year ladder:
1. Wendouree
2. Naps Sebas
3. Mount Clear
4. East

5. Darley (to miss out on %. Would of made it with Steenholdt fit. Easy run)
6. Point
7. Hill (If can get over Darley this week are a big chance to go higher)
the rest

Thoughts?

2 dead set semi finals this round. east v point & darley v hill. depending on other results, the losers of those 2 games may find it hard to make finals.

also fantastic to see the likes of hill & north winning last round, adding some more depth to the competition. the comp needs as many sides as possible remaining strong so that interest in the comp remains. having half the sides strong enough to play finals & the other half not isnt good.

before xmas no-one would have given north any chance against wend, but now after such a good win, they would have to give themselves a chance, & thats fantastic.

Is the lad Trower really that good - heard he often has rushes of blood and gets bored easy at the crease?
He has been one of the luckiest blokes at the crease - we conservatively put it at 8 times he has been dropped in his 6 innings to date. If teams want to keep giving him lives, then so be it - all he can do is keep batting after that. And he is leading the league aggregate from the least number of hits.

didnt see you naps blokes kicking up a stink when carmen kept getting selected for country week when he was over. good on the pom for making the most runs and deserving selection. We dont send a team away for fun and development, we send them away to do what they did last year and win the comp and promote our competition. nuf said

The Pom thoroughly deserves his spot however there are still a few other blokes who don't and there are a number who missed out that have had better seasons then those have been picked on reputation alone....Not sure how a certain bloke from naps can be selected and another bloke from north

im not kicking up a stink. irv made a statement & i tend to agree.

back when carmen played with us i held similar views, but forums such as this werent around to express those views. i hope the pom does well & i hope the lads can repeat what they did last year.

having spent the last 4 seasons with pete & dash i know their passion to see the bca succeed & i admire the time & effort they put in. im in no way having a crack at them.

I' guessing Yates and Johnson made themselves unavailable...but Irv's has taken 12 wickets this year, appleton is only spinner to have taken more with 15. When you look at top run scorers and wicket takers before this round, a few names come to mind, not sure if these boys made themselves available or not: Maybe you boys know if they did? J.White, Daniel Wright, Steenholdt, Cahir, Knowles, Hoppy. Not sure it's necessary to take a back up wicket keeper that isn't actually a keeper, he's only part time.

The only other North bloke was Tom Geddes, a leggie. Seems there's a plethora of offies around, but very few leggies - Geddes, J. Winnard, S. Irving and A. Johnson are the only leggies as far as I know. Winnard can't get a bowl for North, Johnno is "still developing" and I don't know Irv's situation re: availability. As fate would have it, Geddes is out for a month with a dislocated finger so won't play anyway.

Yeah but surely you don't just pick a leggie for the sake of it, You need to pick blokes who have performed still and i'm fairly sure he's only taken 6 or 7 wickets for the season. How many overs is he even gonna bowl in that side in 50 overs?? they have plenty of bowlers. When did he injure his finger??

It just dawned on me that we have another precedent ..... my man Pete Appleton is a Pom. If he was making himself available should he be able to go? Of course he should.

There's always been plenty of them. Rahul Mankad - India, Carmen Mapa-Tazzie - Sri Lanka, Chris Bambury - Bangladesh..... They have done well!
