BARCLAY SHIELD 2022/23

I don't know why you'd want to restrict it to under 25s, that just seems unnecessary. From what I've seen, most clubs do have the BBQ on and the beers cold, at least they were at Mont on Tuesday. I don't think I've been to a DVCA club in the T20 comp that hasn't been well attended. I've been at and hosted a couple of NMCA clubs though that have had no supporters turn up.

I see it as a great option to showcase the youngsters of the club who may not have the opportunity to get a chance to play in the main game for their club and put their talents on display. Guessing the majority of the U25s don't necessarily have work comittments that make getting to a ground at 5:15 difficult. Thursday you're going to have even more of a crowd with more people inclined to come and have a beer as well than Tuesday.

If clubs don't have the under 25s to put on a park, I guess if anything it can serve as a health check on the current playing list.

Well funny you mention the "health check" as I was wondering this week, the average age of the competition say from E grade up. I wonder if the DVCA have even thought about this, as if the average age is above 35, I'd say the comp could be in trouble in say, 10 years. I'm also interested in my own club and will probably have a look at this this week if I have some time to burn. I'm thinking the optimum average age would be around 25 for the majority of the senior playing group.

Mac (Tim wise) could genuinely chase this total down with overs to spare in the form he’s in

In other news , rosanna made a score of 320 which they have never done since the Romans invaded New Zealand .
They'd be feeling pretty confident I'd imagine with runs on the board

This team will be celebrating 20 seasons since an historic Barclay Shield Premiership win against Diamond Creek.

Dec 17 at Research Park from 3pm till late.

Adam McGinty with 41 wkts @13
Ian Chesterton 36 wkts @18
Joel Whyte 33 wkts @11
Mark Peterson 16 wkts @18

led the way in what was a dominant attack.

A young 16 year old Shannon Malone featured alongside Paul Cusma, Glen Turner, John Peterson, Tim Whittaker, Nick Ritchie and Luke Teagle.

Bowling highlight for the year would probably be when they dismissed Eltham for 39 off 20 overs and best game (apart from GF) would definitely be the home Semi v Mont that produced 600 runs with some great cricket played in front of a big crowd in was like an amphitheater.

Feel free to drop in and have a beer with the boys if you like🤙

The level of cricket back then was a lot stronger than it is now, in my opinion.
I'd imagine players like Keays , McGinty and Chesterton would more than dominate in Barclay in today's environment. Grounds weren't much chop back then either

Did they use 2 piece balls then?

Hearing Rosebank received a $500 fine for not supplying an afternoon tea. Cricket Vic guidelines still stating that players should provide their own. Also $500 a bit steep for not supplying some party pies and and an egg & lettuce sandwich. Maybe the DVCA should put more effort into assisting clubs in keeping afloat than fine for a minor breach of a rule I cant find.

Have heard the same thing and if thats the case what a joke..... Clubs better make sure there is more than BBQ shapes for arvo tea or the DVCA will hit you with a $500 fine.... The exec need to have a long hard look at themselves if this is the case in fantasy land

Fair. Criminal offense

Fairly decent run to the finals with 4 teams on the same points.

North eltham look dangerous
Heidelberg have a really tough run home
Diamond creek have just had a great win, and have Banyule and Research to come
Rosebank still a bit of an unknown in my eyes, but have Banyule and Research to come
