See this all makes total sense now - so they train specifically to improve throwing and no doubt eye ball coordination.

Yeah, they're the ones, although the ones England wear seem to be mostly black.

The black/red ones England use are the Canterbury ones, you can get them from SCS - Somerset club shop. I find the padding to much if you get the wrong size. But they ar egood for a hard 'catching' session in the slip cordon. Rubbish for throwing in though form the cover's region.
Any made by the rugby companies out of neoprene to assist protection would do you.

Hmm, interesting point. Last season me and my 3 mates who all played for the same team, would just head down to the park and practise fast catches, baseball like throw to someone with a bat and hitting it low. Practise that for an hour or so!
Also You can practise fast catches using a tennis ball and a tennis racket, good for practising the low catches as you can use the racquet far more accurately .
