Anyone got any useful tips to help me overcome this downturn in form with the bat?

m8 this exact same thing happened to me.... only the opposite... my bowling went down hill and my batting picked up... i was leading the wickets and bowling average, then lost it all....

i found it helped me to go right back to basics... my problem turned out to be both mental and technique... my front foot position was off and my head was a mess...

relax with it, it will come back 2 u... and go back to the key fundamentals of batting...

good luck with it m8 ;)

Re: Batting Help

Well just got back from my game today, to say im delighted is an understatement.

Asked to go in at number three today. Wasnt fussed and i was prepared to graft in there if needs be as i was the second most experienced player in the side today. Got off to a dreadful start losing a wicket with the very first ball (chasing 174 off 45 overs). In a sense it was the ideal situation for us as our skipper was there and im the vice captain on Saturday, roles reversed on Sunday. The new ball bowlers were pretty tasty, and after an eventful five over stint from each bowler, we managed to claw our way to 17-1 after 10 overs.

The first change bowlers werent a great deal, and we pretty much started to score freely after that, scoring at roughly 6 and over for the next 8 overs. They decided to bring a young leg spinner on, and for some reason, i decided i wasnt going to even have a look because i was feeling very confident. First ball i came down the track and hit the ball over long on for four. Next ball was a poor full toss outside leg that was hit down to fine leg for four. Ball after was a poor half volley that i managed to hit through the covers for four.

In the end we managed to chase 174 for the loss of just ONE WICKET with ten balls to spare (my partner got 74* and i ended with 80* and my maiden fifty). Considering early on we couldnt really get bat on ball, to end up winning at a canter made it an excellent win for us. I dont know what it was today, but this morning before i played, i told myself i was going to score a fifty. It was just really one of those games where i felt like i wasnt going to get dismissed. Ok, critics might suggest that 80* off 43 overs isnt really at a fast pace, but it seemed perfectly ideal for the situation.

Believe me, getting your first fifty it something any batsmen should savour. I do class myself as an all-rounder, and ive looked like getting a fifty three times before but a lack of concentration has let me down. Today the main things that helped were a positive mental attitude, and also not counting my runs. Ive stopped myself doing that now, and it seems to massively have helped me at the crease.

It seems strange looking at some people on here saying ''it only takes one ball to get you back into form''. I look back to last week now and think, yes, that is spot on. The first ball i faced last week went for six, and since then in a game situation, i havent looked back. Confidence is an excellent thing to have. I honestly felt that today i was seeing the ball like a football, and there is no better feeling. Being an ECB Level 1 coach as well has definitely helped. In the last few months ive been concentrating on other people, and to an extent i feel ive neglected my own game. In the last few weeks ive worked with a first team player at our club who is a Level 2 coach, and its really been a massive benefit.

It takes one ball to get you back into form? You better believe it.

Re: Batting Help

Well done mate. In the context of the match, the pace you went at didn't matter a pip, 174 off 50 overs isn't that big, so it was probably better that you went slow rather than blitzing and suffer a collapse. But great job, keep up the form

Re: Batting Help

Sunday went rather well as well. I think you know your side has had a good day with the bat when the skipper is in at Number 4 and you arent needed when you were chasing 112.
