The 4 appointed Captains should be given a certain amount of money, and then it's up to them to go out and buy the players.

E.G - If Fred becomes a Captain (looking likely) and he wanted to buy LJP, he then makes an offer in a thread and then, LJP can either accept or decline the offer, if he accepts the offer, he joins that club, if he declines the offer, Fred can either increase his bid, or another club can come in with a higher bid. :D

I'd imagine people would be able to pick yourself up for $0.50?

A price?

I sort of imagined myself having to beg a Captain to pick me up for free

This is a good idea @|

Instead of a free agency type of system that you've suggested how about an auction like the IPL?

For example each team could receive a salary cap of $100 million and then each player is auctioned off. The minimum price for a player could be $5 million.

Thoughts?

Re: BCFCL Captains - Vote for 4

The salary cap is a good idea. Each player would be before an auction and then would be sold to the highest bidder. I don't think players should be able to refuse a bid made to them, once the highest bid is made then that's it, they go there.

A salary cap of 4 or 5 million sounds pretty good. It can then be increased each season. Contracts for players could be set at one to two seasons or more if both parties agree to it.

Re: BCFCL Captains - Vote for 4

But how do you determine which players are worth what? And what influence does that have on the particular player's performance?

I think it would be too hard to organise personally.

You could take a look back at the previous competition and see who went well back then. Alternatively, players could be bought on their efforts at BigFooty. Some players are generally an unknown.

It provides a bit of a variable to the competition. Rajasthan Royals spent the least amount of money in the IPL and ended up winning the tournament, that represents good value for money. You might end up buying a player for $700,000 and they end up falling short of expectation. On the other hand, you could buy a player for half the price and they win Player of the Season.

The idea puts more emphasis on the captains to get a balanced squad and to recruit talent carefully.

Re: BCFCL Captains - Vote for 4

But would players with good reps have slightly better averages or how does that work??

Ok, for example, say we put a very experienced poster up against a newish poster.

Guru vs. SA Hawkette

What would the differences be for each of these two, and what is the advantage for the team to get the experienced poster for a lot of cash rather than getting 11 newbies??

Not this season, this could be organised for future seasons. I'm sure there would be some ideas on how to work this.

The only advantage i can see of getting experienced guys would be to have a better posting team and enjoy the comp more.

This is how i see it, others might have different ideas.

Re: BCFCL Captains - Vote for 4

But I guess for this to work it would have to be all or nothing...

I like this system but I think its too complicated atm. The draft/approach system seems more suitable for a first year comp.

What you say makes sense, it would probably be good to just draft everyone for the first season and then if the comp is successful we could use the auction system.

Yep @|

Is there a list of posters that are playing or should we put one up so skippers can see what's on offer?

Ljp has been updating a list in the sign up thread, i think there are 36 players now

Re: BCFCL Captains - Vote for 4

Sweet as, just working out what I'd do with the draft if I do end up getting one of the captaincy spots.

Re: BCFCL Captains - Vote for 4

To start off a new era with BigCricket, I believe an auction will create more interest than a plain draft, and a salary cap and player contracts would create even more interest.

For example, if I was Captain and I wanted to sign up LJP to my team, I bid $600,000 at Auction, and then signed him up on a two-year contract worth a flat figure of $100,000, I'm paying the $600,000 based on him being an experienced player and an excellent poster, where-as, I could bid $40,000 for a newbie who could potentially turn out better than LJP, just all luck really.

Thw overall salary cap would be set, the auction would eat into that cap, but a seperate budget for player payments should be set up, if you exceed the TTP (Total player payments) you lose ladder points.

If a contracted player wants to move clubs, his current club and the club he wants to move to need to make an agreement, and a fee needs to be arranged.

Re: BCFCL Captains - Vote for 4

Way too confusing, and again, sides would be better off with 11 newbies with the exact same averages.

This would be an excellent system but as SouthSwans said there is really no point this season. Next season where players could have extra points to their averages that system you suggested would work alot better.

Re: BCFCL Captains - Vote for 4

It's a lottery though, like the IPL auction.

You spend money on the 'name' and that is all. As was stated, look at the Royals, they spent their money wisely on talented but not household name cricketers (few exceptions), granted they were superbly captained by God, but they won it, where-as the Deccan Chargers spent zillions on 'names' and finished last... there is no system, you pay extra money for the name (or in the this case) posting ability and experience
