Re: Best bats

Bit of an open ended question:

Alot is down to personal Preference:

i have a Newbury, Custom made County and a new Kookaburra.

What do you currently use?

Re: Best bats

must say just got a new Gunn & Moore duellist
well weighted, beatifull peice of willow, hits like a dream
seems like the peeps at GM have finally made a bat to match their old Maestro.
Too bad mine is wasted on a bowler

Re: Best bats

you need to get yourself to a shop with lots off bats! try them and pick them all up!

ask if you can knock a ball to find the middle!

Re: Best bats

As a rule of thumb always go for the best willow you can afford. Most bats on the market will be ok but if you want to be sure of getting the best then it's vital to buy in person.

I recommend finding 2/3 brands you like then doing some research, most of the big companies have comprehensive websites that will run through the bats in detail and give you an idea of which bat is suited to your style of play (things like where the middle is, weight and so on).

One you've narrowed it down to say 2/3 bats go and look at in person, ideally at a cricket warehouse or similar shop. Tap the bats up if allowed and spend some time just picking them up and feeling the weight/balance.

Learn how willow is graded (although willow grading is largely done on looks rather than playability it is still a good idea to have a rough idea) and make sure that the bat is what it says it.

All of this should help to reduce the risk of getting a dud. However, bear in mind that willow is natural and from time to time things will and do go wrong, no matter how carefully they prepare the bat. No bat maker wants a bat to play poorly or break easily as it'll only damage their reputation.

thanks,
any i should stay away from?

try to avoid buying big brand bats such as Gray Nicholls, Kookaburra and Slazenger as you are probarbly paying 30% more for the brand name on the sickers
For Bats woth quality and affordability look for brands like Fisher, Jabaroo, Salix, Hunts and even Newbury

Thats Not entirely True, yes of course you will pay more for branded bats but you do pay for what you get!

and i would hardly class a Newbury as a Cheaper affordable bat, Considering John Newbury is one of if not the best bat maker in the world!

Part off cricket is aspiring to be like those who you worship! lets face it if Beckham had never worn Predators where would addidas be now? Kp will do the same for them! Their Bats will no doubt be very well advertised and people will want them! they wont be bad bats but will be expensive.

Buy the best bat you can afford! i have various bats, custom bats and very expensive bats.

they are only as good on the day as me!

Try out the bats ignore everyone else, buy what you like and belive in yourself!
