Bring back australia a?

I really don't rate Hartley with the gloves... a couple of good catches does not a keeper make.

IMO somebody is going to have to do something pretty outstanding to surpass Paine as the heir apparent to Haddin in both forms of the game. Manou would currently probably push him out if the Test spot opened up, but age is not on his side.

My bet is Wade and Paine will be fighting it out for Haddin's keeping spot in the future. Both are young and have very good potential with the bat.

In 08-09 Wade averaged near 50 with the bat, I havn't been keeping track of him this season though.

Paine is hit and miss, Wade is alright with the bat, Manou is quite terrible and Ronchi can't keep his place in the WA side, let alone a A side.

Personally I'd have either Hartley or Manou for keeping quality. Sure they may end up batting at 8 but they have both (especially Hartley) come a long way with the bat. Hartley has performed well over the past 3 seasons with the bat, better record than Haddin lately.

Paine is the only one you have mentioned that has real gloveman ability combined with batting.

Ronchi has 396 runs @ 49.5 in the Sheffield Shield this season. He is the second-best keeper in the country statistically behind Chris Hartley and has the best strike rate (80.32) of all players in the top 50 runscorers at the moment. Ronchi is also the only player with a strike rate of more than 73 this season so far.

Re: Bring back australia a?

Really depends on what type of match you are going to see between Australia and Australia A. A test match or four day style match you would probably have the two sides as follows (opinion only)

Katich, Watson, Ponting, M.Hussey, Clarke, North, Haddin, Johnson, Hauritz, Hilfenhaus, Bollinger

Hughes, Rogers, S.Marsh, Khawaja, Cosgrove, Ferguson, Wade, S.Smith, Siddle, Clark, Lee

(Fitness Pending)

And I for one would pay a lot of money to go and watch that match

I'd try and fit Klinger into the A side. Apart from that I agree with it.

I wouldn't pick Hartley over any of Paine, Wade, Manou or Ronchi. He's had a decent season with the bat but he's nowhere near good enough to be selected as a specialist batsman. My side would be:

1.Jacques
2.Rogers
3.Klinger
4.Khawaja
5.Cosgrove
6.S.Marsh
7.Paine
8.S.Smith
9.Geeves
10.Laughlin
11.Nannes

With the following just missing out:
D.Harris
Robinson
McKay
Manou and Wade
Birt
Rimmington

No room for Dave Hussey, Cameron White or George Bailey?

Surely at least one merits a spot in the A team.

Re: Bring back australia a?

You can only pick 11 blokes. Based on recent form, I wouldn't have Hussey or White in over any of the guys already in there. Forgot about Bailey, he would be pushing.

Also forgot Ed Cowan.

Re: Bring back australia a?

McKay 12th man for Australia should probably get a good look in in anyone's A side.

Dependant on fitness really. 3 of Australia's best bowlers are injured atm in Brett Lee, Stuart Clark and Ben Hilfenhaus, so if the concept was introduced when they were fit they would be in either of the two sides.
