Broken Bat aka "The Sapling"
as per title, last night i was netting as usual, those of you who have seen the pics of my bat will know what she is like. She was knocked in for hours and hours and hours. she has been playing nicely in the nets untill last night she took a yorker to the toe!
was a cracking ball from our 1st XI opening bowler right on my toes. i have no doubt i would have got four runs for it but when i picked up the bat after he congratulated me and we exchanged words i noticed this! You may need to scroll acrss a bit to see all of the pics, and sorry for the quality they were taken on the iphone
so after a trip to the pub with everyone and much sulking i headed to the shed late last night and began surgery!
luckily the crack had split a large chunk of wood as opposed to a small bit, so a healthy bit of wood glue and 3 clamps to hold it in place. This morning she is as solid as a rock. shaved down the excess glue and wood quick sand and she looks fantastic. infact you would not know the split was there. I need to resand the face of the bat now and re oil. but after a bit of re-knocking in on the toe area you can tell any difference to the other side of the bat when knocked on with a mallet.
here is a quick picture just after the clamps came off and very rough sand. i will post a couple more when the has been resanded and oild and possibly a bit of tape to stop it happening again:
