Castlemaine and District Cricket Association

Re: Castlemaine and District Cricket Association

What you are saying supports Gladstone's call that the team is picked on reputation and not form.

It would seem to be very hard for a new player to break into the side if you pick people just because you think they can step up.

I'm not even sure it is a step up because often the team Castlemaine picks would not beat the best A grade sides, yet still performs well because the other leagues are in the same boat and can only scrounge up who is available.

Re: Castlemaine and District Cricket Association

G'day guys, CDCA President Dick signing in - be kind, I'm a newby here!

Interesting discussion about the possible BCW team. While it would be nice to pick the 15 best players in the comp for the squad, that will never happen. The biggest qualifications for selection seem to be interest and availability. I completely agree that the first priority of players is to their club, but it would be nice if more players were willing and/or able to put their hand up to test themselves at the Association level, whether through Bendigo Country Week, or Kenmac or Kirton Shields.

This year the following players were invited but are not available, through work, family or personal reasons: Mercuri, Becker, L.Ford, Hinck, Hobbs, Stubbings, Carmichael, Fraser, McKimmie, T.McLeod, Oliver, Ross, Ciunik, Reynolds, Tunzi, Brindley, Cole, Christmas, Pedretti, Schmidt. What a team you could field from those players!

After dozens of phone calls, the following have been selected for Monday at the Camp Reserve v. Gisborne: J.Allan, M.Giri, M.Culvenor, L.Watson, T.Chambers, R.Ford, C.McKnight, B.Filo, D.Envall, A.Ferres, A.Lovett, 12th man A.Code. Others who will be available later in the week include M.Sobey, C.Aldridge, T.Reece, J.Milsom.

If you can, please come and support the boys on Monday.

By the way, congratulations to the Red Hats for making the semi-final of the Cricket Willow 20/20 competition last Sunday. Unfortunately they lost to a very strong team from Colts Phelan in Maryborough.

yes president dick, congratulations to the "mighty" redhats for making the semi finals in the 20/20 comp. it is a crying shame the boys got beat on the day but i guess you cant win the big games when your carrying that many passengers.
looking at the stats on the weekend, maybe certain redhat a grade opening bowlers should make way for someone that can actually get wickets as in p.wicks from their a res team. 8/24 must have been an inspirational display of bowling to knock over the flag favorites.
And how come al mack didnt get an invitation to play counrty week? i had him in my dream team. his fearsome bowling and power hitting in the middle order would have been ideal in that team.
you know it makes sense.

u make a fair case for wicks. looks like he must have upset someone at red square for him not to be getting a game. he has got twice as many wickets in one game than milsom (or as we like to call him 'useless') has all year. and another excellent point about mack junior. what more does he have to do? maybe wear a maroon or a red hat i suppose. how did u go yourself on the weekend gladstone?

i retired from international cricket many years ago hoff, i was cut down in my prime due to a lack of a neck. but what i lacked in neck i made up for in talent unlike some of the boys playing country week. i was at yesterdays game and was absolutley appaulled to see giri bowl 22 horrific overs for 125 runs. the only explanation i have is that he is a redhat in a team that is captained by a redhat. what disrespect shown by the captain to the rest of his bowlers having no faith in them to get the job done. it is no surprise the players invited dont make themselves available.
you know it makes sense.

yes g-string, i'd imagine it would be a little bit embarrassing for giri in retrospect. but with the cattle he had, u can't really blame him. i do feel sorry for the selectors for the lack of available players. good to see you made the trip over from england to watch country week, you 'neckless warior'

Re: Castlemaine and District Cricket Association

hey guys, new to this kind of thing...

great to see alot of active conversation about our league, really pleasing to see alot of people interested in what goes on in the comp.

have been witness to country week this week and i'm really pleased to see our guys win a very spirited match today, in which we defended 149 on a batsmens paradise.

Chambers bowled excellently, so did filo and mcknight. giri kept which is new to him ( better then getting smashed off heaps of overs) and culvenor took the crucial wickets. And lenny watson bowled really tight.

apparently there was a 10 to 1 field at one stage which seems fairly aggresive since there was only 149 to defend....

Re: Castlemaine and District Cricket Association

T Chambers bowls with a suspect action?!

You are having a laugh. Nothing wrong with it at all!

Re: Castlemaine and District Cricket Association

Re: Castlemaine and District Cricket Association

good to back had to concerntrate on the cricket for a while.we had players leaving and good luck to those boys who moved on.just thought i would give a mention to the country week.what an absolute abortion of a week it was.who organized that rabble.obviously there needs to be some changes at the top.picking blokes on name and not in form players in the comp didnt work.no squad training sessions.players picking and chosing when they could play.have to be the only league to do that i would think.good to see castlemaine united as they always do outright the shocking sides and lose to the good ones. go colts

dont worry about castlemaine jando, you just worry about the sooky colts and the state of the club since you took over the top job. the inconsistancy and the 'mass exodus' of players must be your main concern. you left the redhats in a rabble, now they are coming good. now you are 'destroying' the colts. local cricket rules!

Re: Castlemaine and District Cricket Association

hey lads,
good to finally become involved in the banter on here.
also is SWEEEEEEEET to see young Gladstone Small becoming involved in country cricket, to share some of his "neck-less" experiences.
;)

country week seems to be a major topic...
i think it was a fair shambles in the end.
there were some guys playing who wouldnt have got a game in B Res, back in the day.
Al Mack was terribly unlucky to miss out, he is a terrific all round cricketer, and extremely agile in the field.
and how did they let giri bowl 22 overs for 125 runs on one day?

The Bug is out.
But he will be back.
To bite you when you least expect it.
:D

Re: Castlemaine and District Cricket Association

country week was always gonna be a shambles. its an old mates club and the best get sick of it so the refuse to play an once the mates are gone then it goes to shit.
Paul wicks is the best turf bowler in the comp... no letters sent to him for an invite. maybe cos hes in a res? maybe the league needs to look at sum of the lower grades for the talent.

Can you please tell us how Country Week is an old mates club?

The selectors are Chris Cole, Chris Edwards and Laurie Marshall. Outside of Muckleford the first two named would have no mates.

There were no Muckleford players in the squad all week I dont think from what I saw, so not sure where the idea comes from that it is an old mates club.

Re: Castlemaine and District Cricket Association

just wondering with this hot weather around if there is a health and safety issue or a welfare issue with the presidents beard.

Re: Castlemaine and District Cricket Association

just checked the bylaws jando. its game on unless the umpire at the ground decides its unsafe for play. but it cant be called off saturday morning tho.
normally they just have extra drinks and wat not

i'm over country week now, it's time to move on. but i can tell u why the colts are shit. why don't you ask jando?ever since he took over the colts they are a rabble, and have lost a heap of players. he bowls himself nearly all day for little return.
