Cheats XI.

Re: Cheats XI.

1. Who was "dirt in the pocket"? Atherton?
2. Gavaskar - more for his antics after retiring than anything during his career
3. G Chappell - underarm
4. Ranatunga (c) - too many incidents to list
5. Cronje - duh
6. Who was the Pakisatani captain in the forfeit match?
7. Sir Richard Hadlee - ****er (actually, I can't really fault the guy, but that doesn't matter)
8. Greg Dyer - serial infringer in claiming stuff he knew wasn't out (quite a feat at the time, given how few wickets Australia tended to take in any given match)
9.Warne - unsportsmanlike a number of times, and only getting 1 year after being found guilty of an offence with a minumum 2 year sentence
10. Lillee - the Miandad bat/kick, joining in with Botham in trashing the NTCA clubrooms, and others I can't quite recall
11.McGrath - too good, must have been cheating

Thanks for the reminder on Javed Miandad, who gets 12th man honours. It also got Dennis Lillee into the team.
Ian Botham is in the squad for incidents on planes, the aforementined NTCA incident, and 1981 was clearly cheating.

Surprisingly, bowlers were relatively hard to come by.

Umpires: Shakoor Rana (probably bring Abdul Qadir into the team), Darrel Hair

Re: Cheats XI.

Suprised nobody has mentioned 'king of the cheats' Steve Waugh, who must surely be a shoo-in for captain.

Always quick to point one of his 'holier-than-thou' fingers at any opposition player who he did not feel matched up to the lofty standards which he erroneously believed himself to hold, yet had no qualms about claiming a catch of Brian Lara in 1995 which appeared to bounce a long way in front of him. Add to this his practice of "Mental Disintegration" which basically involved being as horribly abusive and offensive to the opposition batsmen as humanly possible, and he makes a prime candidate for this team.

Steve Waugh will be remembered as an Australian icon for the success he had as Australian Captain, but it should not be forgotten that his 'win-at-all-costs' mentality often found himself teetering around the edge between 'gamesmanship' and 'cheating'.

Could put in Dhoni, hell could probably find a keepers XI, but what did Healy do?

In the early 90s Healy claimed a run out with the ball clearly not in his glove, there was even a massive close up picture of it on the back page of the paper. He also claimed a hit wicket when he took the bails of himself. The bloke is a cheat as well as a toss.

Re: Cheats XI.

How could I have possibly overlooked Cronje?

Has to be the Captain. He is proven to be the greatest cheat the game has ever seen. All the others we have mentioned have been borderline gamesmanship but Cronje just out & out cheated. (not the only one I think we would all agree - but the only one caught or confessed)

His cheating was the opposite to all the others we have discussed. All the others, without exception, cheated in an attempt to better their own, or their teams position within the match. Cronje cheated for financial gain and at times that cheating was to the detriment (intentionally) of he or his teams position within a match.

No more discussion on the Captain is required.
Simply no other candidates can possible measure up to Hanse's lofty achievements.

May he rest in peace.
