City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 2010/11

Clocker - speak to your club representative. The U/18s are exempt from the restrictions. This was made clear on Wednesday night. The restriction rule is specific in that it applies to 16 an unders from a certain date - I presume this year it will be 1/10/1995.

From our perspective I think the T20 concept you're proposing is a fantastic idea. We've had a few old heads show a bit of interest if this were to be the case. Young families and work commitments have seen them become unavailable for the extended formats we currently play, however there is genuine interest in games that will only last a few hours on a Saturday arvo.

A T20 comp for the lowest grade would suit a lot of players, who can't committ to a full day's play.
Maybe the old 1 Day grade can be turned into a T20 comp as 'H' Grade is now a 55 over comp.

Should really just ask the clubs who would field a T20 side and see what numbers u get... 55 over cricket is a joke better off with the 65 or just onedayers each week.

t20 would also work for those poor blokes that are under the thumb.. plenty of time to get home, have a shower and be the ladies handbag for dinner that night ;)

Look at what our competition is becoming.

15 years ago we were playing 2 day cricket down to K Grade with full one day matches being played on Australia Day, along with a thriving junior 16/14/12 competition on Saturday mornings. Clubs were thriving, and Longmuir was once touted as the best non-turf competition in the country.

As the years go on, we lose a grade, or it gets sucked up into a one day competition. Now we are looking at another grade being sucked into a Twenty20 competition. How many years will it take until we see our D Grade or Quiney Shield become a Twnety20 competition so players can get home in time to spend Saturday dinner with their missus? What a joke.

Brighton influenced CMCA executives have dabbled with the junior competition to appease private school parents, and we effectively see the DESTRUCTION of Saturday morning cricket, while Friday nights get monopolised by 3-4 clubs. Toying around with different age brackets just because the odd kid is being told by his parents that senior cricket is too dangerous.

Now an under 18 age bracket, forcing club executives to effectively run their club facilities 7 days a week. No wonder people are turning away from their club environments, as people ask for more responsibility from blokes who simply want to play on a Saturday.

Things are looking bright.

Some very valid points you make there, Sugar.

A growing trend, it seems in poor management. I have to say I was disappointed in the way the CMCA exec handled the Hurlingham Park resurfacing issue with respect to Highett West. They requested a meeting with our executive committee about a month ago and refused to give us an agenda for the meeting. I normally like to defend the guys cos I think they do a good job, but I don't know what sort of an organisation they think they're running when they feel they have a right to dump on us in a meeting that they want use of our main ground for Brighton Union's Longmuir fixture this season - without any forewarning.
From where we're sitting the meeting could've been a lot more productive if they'd given us the agenda, in writing or verbally, so we could discuss it as a club and then have gone to the CMCA exec meeting with our ideas, thoughts & a potential proposition.
As it turns out, we eventually agreed to share the ground on the conidition that we host the Longmuir GF this season which they weren't prepared to do. I understand the CMCA have a system and 'employ' a finals sub-committee, but for 1 season as an in-kind return to the favour we'd be doing, I fail to see why they couldn't "bend the rules" for an extraordinary exception. The ground is quite clearly up to standard and you only have to speak to the clubs involved in Woolnough Shield last year to know we held our own with respect to our hospitality.
Not only would it have made life easy for the CMCA, but it would've injected a bit of $$ back into a struggling club.
I can't help, but think that the situation might've been different if it were a Glen Eira club wanting to share Uniting or Mackie's facilities for the season, that an exception to the rules could be made.

SPOT ON SUGER WITH ALL YOUR POINTS.
UNC, DO YOU NOT REALISE THAT FOR ALL THE GOOD WORK THE CMCA EXEC DO, THEY MAKE MOST OF IT UP AS THEY GO ALONG!!

Longmuir draw for upcoming season:
Some interesting first up encounters, with the Mackie Boys packing their lunch and heading off to Beazley Reserve to meet the Leviathan of the CMCA Chelsea Heights. They have had a remarkable rise during the past four seasons and it will interesting to see if they can close the gap between Woolnough and Longmuir and make an impact. History suggests it is unlikely. The Royals get to meet what will probably be a patched up Juggernaut minus Manders and possibly a couple of other regulars because of post season football revelry and injury.
The Spiders will be hoping for rain to meet the Invincibles in a one dayer. The Golfers host the Beach Boys in what should be an interesting first up encounter with the Beach boys wanting to make amends for a disappointing end to last season. The Panthers host the restructured Hoops at Le Page which is never an easy assignment.Hopefully they will stick around for a beer at the conclusion of play. Finally the Cowboys host the Sky Blues in what could be a telling match especially as the season unfolds.

TBA refers to the unavailability of Hurlingham Park due to resurfacing work to be carried out and to the likely unavailability of Lord's Reserve for at least part of the season due to incomplete resurfacing work already carried out. Final venues will be notified as soon as possible.

Uncle Mick,
you may be off the mark in regards CMCA favouring certain Glen Eira clubs, Bentleigh Uniting finished clear top of the Longmuir Ladder last season, have a ground voted in the top 3 in the CMCA, desperately wanted to host the Longmuir Grand Final but their request was denied by the CMCA (Grounds Committee)
Uniting was not happy.
There is a growing ground swell of clubs that want to host home Finals for reasons of home ground advantage and financial gain as a just reward for finishing top of ladders.
There are a number of grounds that are worthy of hosting finals, Mackie, Centenary, the revamped Packer looks great, Rowans Road, Elwood, East Sandy and your ground amonst others.
You can do your deal with the Devil but not if it disadvantages a team wanting a home final.

Sugar,
You have taken a snap shot at a point in time which is now irrelevant. The median house price for Bentleigh in 1996 was $225,000 and $175,000 for East Bentleigh. (source:www.johnhopkins.com.au)
The internet was in its infancy and kids still had time for sports. Circa 2011, social media networks control the lives of kids and adults, average house prices in Bentleigh are $750K and more kids are attending private schools because their parents can afford it. When you are paying 25K per year in fees and the school tells you that you are playing sports on a Saturday then you do it. Saturday morning cricket has been dying a slow death for years for a number of reasons. Kids don’t want to play a full day of cricket which means that they have to get to the ground at 8.00am and probably don’t get home until 7.00pm if they play senior cricket as well; parents can’t be bothered getting up to take them; or they are working; or have to juggle other family members with their sporting commitments or they are juggling their access rights as a result of a separation. Friday night was a compromise for the private schools but it was also a compromise to try and get kids to stay with their clubs and participate in the CMCA. If you recall three CMCA clubs broke away and entered teams in the Southern churches Association because they offered a more flexible competition which suited the needs of these clubs. Unfortunately your Bentleigh centric view of the world is no longer valid as the Friday night competition accommodates a wide variety of clubs and the under 16’s and under 14’s for example has 4 grades and has experienced a boom in their expansion. The other issue is that of ground availability. They are just not there to accommodate three grades playing on a Saturday morning i.e 12’s/14’s & 16’s.

Your point regarding clubs having to accommodate cricket seven days per week is very valid. A number of clubs have been operating like this for a number of years, and they have developed structures to deal with it. Clubs which rely on the same two or three people to make all of the decisions and do all of the work are anachronistic and will wither as time progresses due to natural attrition or the reluctance of people to step up and get involved in what is a thankless job.

The evolution of 20/20 is again a sign of the times but it has energized the game of cricket and brought back a lot interest into the game. You get to play a game of cricket in three hours and then get on with what you have to do. A one day match in Longmuir/Woolnough/Quiney for example requires players to be at the ground by 11.30am and some matches can finish as late at 6.30pm depending upon the result.

Taking all things into account the he Executive has moved to try and become proactive and accommodate the times. The world has moved on and in the next 15 years 75% of the current junior players will be playing in competitions in the new estates and outer suburbs as escalating house prices and rentals drive people out of the area.

I've dropped the ball a bit here, Merl. Would've tipped 8 last week ,but unfortunately didn't get my tips in til Saturday morning and copped Freo (away side) on Friday night.

This round:
Pies
Hawks
Blues
Dons
Lions
Eagles

Read with great interest on the CMCA website that all 18 rule changes have been approved for the coming season. Fabulous! Now if they only told us what these 18 changes actually are, so we could all be enlightened.

Excellent advice! - we wouldn't want our competition's main source of public information/communication being over utilised now would we?
