The Juggernaut's 8 Premierships in 9 years will always be hard to top in an era when 20/20 did not exist.So far Uniting have won one flag and will be fighting hard to go back to back so they are miles away. Back to back 20/20 flags is a memorable effort, but the Battle of Bentleigh is a social day so I wouldn't get too excited about it.Yes Uniting has managed to get to the 'G' which will be a memorable time for the Club and all the players involved. I hope someone from the club is organizing a video of the big day. Selection will be interesting as everyone in the mix will be keen to get onto the big stage.

The Hoops performance many many years ago when they defeated District Clubs was a remarkable feat but it has been all but forgotton outside the Hoops.

Out of curiosity, who got to call the toss? I would have thought that the away team would have had that choice? It is not a call you would want to have hanging over head especially if you got it wrong!

Golf you are an honourable man and I am happy to amend your tips on this occasion. You received 4 for the round, however from here on no tips, no points so as to be fair to the leaders. Quasi is doing a Greg Norman, can't fault his logic but that is cricket.

Yeah it was great to see Ash back, hardly made a run didnt bowl because of the washout . Maybe it would have been a chance to give someone else a go please flying a player back from Perth . The money is flowing down there did he get a police escort from Tulla probably jealous but once the wheels fall off knowone will feel sorry for them. Gee Brett you must feel a bit let down not getting invited to the big show. It is fast becoming the St Peters of cricket maybe they should change there colours to green and red.
 
8 flags in 9 years will never be bettered. A remarkable effort. Remember we did salute in 2007 flag so that’s 2 in 5 years and hoping for 3 in 6 but we are miles behind East Sandy. No one will get close to that record.

Old Game – What’s the reference to St Peters? Geography means there has always been a strong contingent of St Peters people at the club. They are the best and most successful junior football club in the area so we will take the comparison as a compliment. Why the hostility? Perhaps a bit of the green-eyed monster kicking in. Success comes and goes but the wheels will never fall off.

I recall Union rolling that district side in that state wide 50 over comp a few years back. Big news at the time and a good write up in Herald –Sun. Aside from the occasional reference it does seem to have been forgotten. Would be interested to hear the thoughts of anyone directly involved.

I'm sure Ash would have jumped at the chance to see his daughter, good for him.
 
Everyone is a bit quick to bag out uniting. They do allow themselves to be critisied but if I had a young bub on the other
side of the country, and had an excuse to get back for a few days I know what I would do. Who cares if ash didnt smash plenty,
they have the depth to sort it out. Aswell as a two sided coin and a cool change.
Good on bucc for getting there. And goodluck at the G!
 
Uniting have prepared for the opportunity of success, that is all you can do, does not matter how that opportunity materialises!

If memory serves me correctly, Union defeated Footscray, Collingwood at Hurly and Frankston in the PUMA CUP and lost by about 2 wickets to Northcote at Hurly and I think that was mainly because David Saker smashed a quick 30-odd not out at the end to get them up. The games were awesome to watch with lots of rival CMCA players there and believe it or not barracking loudly for Union. The fielding displays Union put on were sensational with George Goro running up to the stumps to effect leg side stumpings (before it got outlawed) off even Con, Con was past his best but was still going pretty well and had plenty of influence on the results, Owen Morros, Tony Grant and Paul Scales also played really well in the games. It was a great concept that died a quick death, possibly because of the success Union had against the "elite".
 
Chooka point taken yes it is 2/5 and fighting to get 3/6 which is a very good effort. Peter Parker wil be fuming as his beloved Spiders are once again ignored in this Uniting centric discussion. They are a legitimate contender and could even pinch second spot if a few things go their way. Will the Executive allow them to play a final at Lords?

Dare I change the topic for a moment but well done to Brad Dolman tearing apart the top order of Brighton Union on the weekend. Should be pairing with Chubbs for the new ball in in the CMCA team of the year.
 
Good point Sugar - Based purely on stats I would think the CMCA Team of the Year bowlers are almost set in stone...I would think probably in this order:

1. Simon Surridge (BUCC)
2. Luke Shelton (Chelsea Heights)
3. Robbie De Haan (Elwood)
4. Brad Dolman (ANA)
 
Off topic... Does anyone know the current rules in relation to dropping down of players to lower grades eg. F,G,H. As always at this time of the year all clubs do it. But has there been a change in the rules for this season?

YOU CANT DROP A PLAER MORE THAN 1 TEAM FOR THE LAST 2 ROUNDS.

I believe you can only drop a maximum of 2 grades within your own club (e.g. at Bentleigh Uniting a Longmuir Player could only drop as low as Quiney Shield / but if your Club's 3 teams were spread from Longmuir to H Grade then you are able to drop a player from Longmuir to H Grade).

That is the normal rule, but for the last two rounds of this season you cant drop more than 1 team
 
Congratulations to Bentleigh Uniting for making it to the MCG. It's every cricketers dream to play there and it's full credit to Uniting that there hard work and preparation have put them in a position for a bit of luck to go their way.

Well done to the Redbacks too for a hard fought win against the Juggers. The game went down to the last few overs and it's was great to see Bruce Haley and the boys earn their first real milestone of the season, as the win guaranteed them a place in the finals. It's been a long, long road for the club to play Longy finals, and although everything is being kept in perspective, it's still exciting times for the club, especially for the guys that have been around the club since the late '60's like Noel 'Penguin' Dettman. Still, it's noses to the grindstone again.

There must be a nice buzz around the Heath too, as the Golfers had a massive win on the weekend to open the finals door for them. As I've said before, they are a great club that invest so well in their juniors and it's good to see them getting rewards for hard work.

Oh, and Clocker, I think we all know that hell will freeze over before a Longy final is played at Lord Reserve!!

It is not a pretty image! Irrespective if the ground is fit enough to hold Longmuir matches then it can host a final, if the Spiders get into that position.They deserve it.

Interesting to see who would be considered coach of the year. Lalor would normally be a shoe in considering undefeated in nearly 2 seasons, plus making the State 20/20 final and all the other successess.However Bruce Haley with his performance in the Under 21's, and getting the Spiders to the finals and possibly a top two spot is very note worthy. Leroy would also have to get a mention with all his hard work which is now starting to pay dividends.
