Cmca 2012/13

Sweet F All on here. Only 10 more sleeps till round 1. Any early predictions for contenders & prentenders? Obviously its early but no harm in conversation and debates in peoples thoughts for the upcomming season. Also to note 2 one dayers to start the year makes it very intetesting as it can be very hit and miss in those contests.

Anywhoo my predictions (mine not yours, so disagree if u may:

Longy: cant go past BUCC... i would put my next weeks salary which isnt much, on ESBC v BUCC Replay grand final Is there a more successful club in australia than ESBC?? But BuCc for me.

Wooly: BUCC again just because of their depth. Aspendale Gardens to struggle after Gf appearebce last season. Ps im not a member of bentleigh uniting

Quiney: LePage to hit back after Terrible batting preformance in last years granny which cost them big time.

D Grade: Surely southside cant choke again after dominating this grade recently surely its their year. My smokey though be Shamrock. Small club but heaps of talent.

Would love to hear all your predictions.
So predict away.... :)

Very excited re the new season. As for predictions its hard to go past a East Sandy v BUCC gf. Maybe they'll alternate premiers and this year it's BUCC's turn. Can't see anyone posing a serious challenge to those 2.
A smoky for me would be Chelsea Heights. I was very impressed with their bowling attack last year. With some added depth in their batting they should give the top 4 a real shake.
As for Wooly I believe that we at Omega have recruited well and in the right areas to have us right up there. Gregory, Warascarstensen and Caia are all quality cricketers added to an already solid line up.
Quiney Shield should be a wide open race like last year when 6 teams were all in contention for finals. Once again I believe that our seconds will be fighting it out toward the pointy end of the season.
Hope we have a full season with a minimum of wash outs.

Forgotten about the old boys pretty quickly, Leroy. Surely they're a sniff to be thereabouts. Have they lost anyone - besides the esteemed coach?

I call it as I see it Mick. Would like KHCC to make finals, but on personel find it difficult to do so. From their finals side they've lost 3 players. Arran and Shea Gribben have gone to Dandenong and St Kilda respectively. The biggest loss though is Cal Rayner who has gone to try his luck at St Kilda as well. In one swoop they lost their best bowler, the first change and a middle order bat who was good enough to keep in the CMCA under 21 team last season.
Take that out of any side, and most teams will struggle.
Their 2nds have also lost a couple of players due to a variety of reasons, work etc, which will affect their depth.
However it gives others an opportunity that hopefully they'll grab and do well.

Wasn't aware of the departures. Rayner is huge. They might find themselves back in Woolnough next season. Shame for a club that has been promising a lot in recent years and seemed to be on the cusp. Can't begrudge players trying to further their careers though. Hopefully, the young pups take their chances and the club continues to develop.

Depending on how you look at it, it's either fortunate or unfortunate that clubs at our level are feeders for Premier teams. You always want your best juniors to do well, but at the same time you realise just how much of a hole they leave. All you can do is wish them the best of luck, and hope that when they do come back to local cricket, that they come back to their junior club.

When is Jimmy Olsen going to provide us with his yearly preview? I look forward to his in depth analysis of the competition. He's a bit like the Mark Robinson of the CMCA.
Maybe he, Hammers and Frank could re name the CMCA cricket show to CMCA 360?

CAN ANY CHALLENGERS EMERGE?
The City of Moorabbin Cricket Association season kicks off this weekend and there have been plenty of moves made in the off season by clubs hopeful of matching it with perennial premiers East Sandringham and the other current powerhouse and last seasons runners-up Bentleigh Uniting. East have taken out nine of the past eleven Longmuir Shield titles with Bentleigh Uniting grabbing the only other two premierships during that period.
Is there a challenger ready to step out of the pack of the other clubs in 2012/2013 or are the other 10 clubs likely to remain the “Washington Wizards” of the competition and remain the two power clubs whipping boys?
Coincidentally,WashingtonPark return to the top grade after a couple of years in Woolnough Shield which culminated in a thrilling Grand Final victory last season and they will be keen to have a solid season. They have maintained last seasons list with Ryan Heywood taking over the leadership. Heywood was an outstanding junior player with the club and returned last season after stints at premier clubs St.Kilda and Prahran and can be expected to perform well in the top grade. He has also just completed another season coaching international heavyweight Estonia in the off-season. Consistent efforts from Andrew Verrall, veteran Gareth Finney and David “Slasher” Mackay will be crucial to their batting. Their bowling looked steady with Matt Oaten, Adam Matthiesson and Heywood capable performers but the addition of fast bowler Shane De Silva should add a bit of bite to The Sharks attack.
Elwood had a less than memorable previous season but will be celebrating their 40th anniversary in 2012/2013 and the club has plenty of reason for optimism. Continuing the international flavour the Beach Boys signed Danish international leg spinner Bobby Chawla as its head coach. Chawla has played 31 matches for Denmark and will join last seasons Longmuir Shield player of the year Rob “Dutchy” DeHaan to give The Beach Boys a dual spin attack to support their pace attack of Jackson Bunting and all-rounder Adam Howard who returns after missing last season. Batting was Elwood’s achilles heel and they will need consistency from Steve Jones, Nathan Harris and Sammy “Devonshire” Tee. Star all-rounder Marshall Bunting will be looking for a big season.
Bentleigh ANA have appointed former Prahran & Port Melbourne player Tim White as coach to assist on field leader Bill Biggs. Their core remains intact with the exception of top bat Adam Mikkelson who has joined MountEliza. Brad Dolman and Andrew Lee carried the bowling last year and will need more help and James White, Brad Lovell and Luke Morrison will be looking to turn batting potential into runs on the board.
ChelseaHeights did reasonably well in their first Longmuir Shield season and have recruited nicely adding Matthew Wilson from Moorabbin, medium pacer James Ralph from the Mercantile competition and top order bat Suraj Kandasamy from MountWaverley to complement top liners Shaun Ezard, Brad Lockhart and Luke Shelton. Further improvement can be expected from youngsters Erish Uthayakumar, Adam Hume, Steve Kat and Callum Dodson. Having top order bat Chris McAlinden for a full season will also help.
There has been plenty of movement at Brighton Union. Long serving administrator Noel Pullen has departed and the club has completely overhauled its committee with Imad Amro assuming the presidents role. On field, Darian Kuzma is still club captain and Michael Cove is coach with assistance from ex-Frankston off spinner Ben Cairns who should be a good pick up and will share plenty of overs with fellow spinner Stuart Bell but the club has lost Aaron Gregory and Jules Waras-Carstensen (Omega), Stuart Scorgie and Ross Veitch and former skipper Con Pothitos’ availability is questionable. They will need others to step up.
Le Page Park again look promising although The Panthers will be without their main weapon Steve McConchie until at least Christmas after he underwent shoulder surgery. To offset this the club has appointed well regarded Southern District top order bat Paul Gurr as captain coach with Matt Heafield as his assistant. Gurr will be looking for marked improvement from the clubs “Bieber Brigade” including Michael Deiacovo, Justin Greer, Morgan and Declan Hampton and Ryan Keating who have all had a season or two to assimilate. Import Oshan De Silva returns and with Glen Czosneck provides stability. They have a tough first half of the season draw but if the club can keep in touch with the top four until the mid season break they could get on a roll.
Mackie and West Bentleigh have had very few personnel changes so The Machine will rely again on the Park brothers, Damian Krotofil, Dean Bott and improvement from their core group of young players Lavery, Krelle, Hard, Sam Clements and Guyetsky whilst The Sky Blues will be looking to Chris Fidler, Carl & Marc Reid, Shaun Holmes, Jack McLeod and Damian Casey to keep them in the mix with Ben Lydster and Jason West expected to become key performers. Andrew West has crossed from ANA to join his brother. There were rumours they were chasing Omega paceman Chris Clement who would be a good addition for them.
Kingston Heath would have been delighted to participate in the finals last season but cannot afford to rest upon their laurels. The losses of coach Leroy De Alwis (Omega) and fast bowler Cal Rayner (St.Kilda) will both be difficult to cover whilst Arren & Shea Gribben are also trying our at premier level. Nuwan Shiroman has taken over as coach and has already shown he is a quality performer. Despite the continued exodus of their talent to premier cricket the seemingly never ending supply line of up and coming youth is still plentiful with Kash Wadwha the latest expected to make his mark after a cup of coffee in the first eleven last year. Under 21 rep Andrew Birt, Daniel Schwarze, Nick Waltrich and Troy Warner will again be relied upon to score the bulk of the runs. Birt also showed plenty with the ball late last season and will have more work this time around.
Carnegie South stepped up in 2011/2012 before being swept out in straight sets in the finals but should be one of the main challengers again. With the exception of top order bat Ollie Hardaker they have retained their even team line up including Gihan Perera and may add a second international to complement John Collison, Scott Handley, Tim Snape and their solid bowling unit.
Bentleigh Uniting pulled off the biggest recruiting coup of the off-season when they snapped up formerAspendaleGardens and East Sandringhamall rounder Luke Manders. The already strong Uniting batting line up including Glenn Lalor, Ash Russell, Damian Britt and Simon Richards will only be stronger and the talented Manders will also slot in nicely to support Britt and Simon Surridge with the ball.
Finally, the ever powerful East Sandringham club will attempt to take their 10th flag in twelve seasons with much the same line up although wicketkeeper/batsman Anton Duddy is effectively a fresh recruit after missing last season with injury and he will further strengthen a batting line up containing Guy Martyn, Danny Corp, Mark Devereaux and Luke Dallas who should be fully fit. Coach Clint Ferguson may also return to the field but the club will be looking to add some bowling to their stocks to help reliable Pat Singh and wily veteran Glenn Phelan.
In Woolnough Shield, Omega, Bentleigh Uniting, Moorabbin West and Hampton Central all look set for strong seasons. The Omers and The Westars have both recruited well whilst demoted Hampton Central will want to rebound quickly and Uniting’s deep playing list should stand them in good stead.

Nice work, Bunt. Although, Bunting is apparently off to the Ferntree Gully league. Sean Holmes I believe is off to Carnegie Sth. A few Bangladeshi cricketers lobbed on the Machine's doorstep by chance and apparently one is a serious player.
Big clean out at Union. Hope for the sake of Kuzma & Cove that they're able to find players to fill the void. Based on last season and the outgoings, they'd be the early favourite for relegation. Jungle drums are getting louder that the biggest recruit of all may play 2-3 games for his former junior club. Missus is pretty shagadelic....

Early call for top 4:
Longy
Uniting
East Sandy - premiers
Carnegie Sth
Chelsea Heights

Wooly
Omega - premiers

Must be a few clubs playing their cards close to their chests Micky. Marshall was supposed to be organising most of the Elwood 40th anniversary celebratory functions so if your rumour is true it must have been a very late about face!!

Perhaps it was, but definitely gone. Thought he might've been having a lend of us, but he's on Mountain Gate's playing list in Mycricket.

Wests may have recruited but they've lost Tim Aydin and Mick Thornton to Carrum Downs. Steve Worker is coach and he's got Ash to play there as well. We played them in a practice game a couple of weeks ago.

Union. Home advantage should get them over the line.
Uniting. I'll be typing this in a lot.
Kingston Heath. Nuwan made a 0 in this fixture last year. I can't see that happening again and The Spiders import from Lanka hasn't arrived as yet.
Chelsea Heights.

Elwood. Squeak is a major loss. The heart and soul of that team.

I wouldnt be so sure about that. Both those boys were seen training with the Moorrabin West boys tonight.

I can understand after seeing some of the places they have to travel. You would need a slab as a traveller for some of the destinations they visit.
