Cmca 2012/13

Yes Army, if you go to the CMCA facebook page there is a link to the show from Round 4 and I will put last weeks show up this Thursday and will put links here and on FB page on Friday. Been a bit flat out and short for time. this season but should be weekly moving forward.

The CMCA Under 21 representative team defeated the Williamstown District Cricket Association by 8 wickets on Sunday. Harcourt (3/5), Cody (2/32), Manders (2/14), Rhys-Jones (32*), Manders (35) and De Iacovo (48*) all having good days. Get down and support the lads who are playing great cricket at the moment as they play the next 2 weeks at:-

G'day guys,
Last night the annual State Government Community Sports & Recreation Awards were held in the Olympic Room at the MCG hosted by Ian Cover (Coodabeen Champions) and presented by the Hon Hugh Delahunty (Minster for Sports & Recreation).
2 weeks ago we received notification that Illias "Louie" Maravas had made the final list of 3 from over 2,500 nominations in his category.
All 3 finalists were invited to attend last night with the winner to be announced at the awards ceremony – the winner receiving $3,000, with the other 2 finalists each receiving $1,000.
Louie was successful in his category Local Sporting Hero of the Year and we’d like to recognise the CMCA, in particular our opposition clubs in the low grades, who have treated Louie with the utmost respect and made him an inclusive member of the CMCA for 16 seasons. It was a very proud moment for us and a wonderful achievement for Louie.
For those who don't know him, here's a little profile on our mate Louie:
40 year old cerebral palsy sufferer.
Was training in the nets one Sunday afternoon 16 years ago and invited to play in our then 4ths (K Grade for those who can remeber back that far).
Literally does not miss a training session.
Premiership player in H Grade 98/99.
Encouragement Award named in his honour in 05/06.
Life Membership 11/12.

For all the shits & giggles that go on in these parts, it's fantastic that Louie has been accepted by the CMCA and has been shown respect by his peers. Once again, thank you to those who have been fortunate to play with and against Louie and good luck to all for the rest of the season.

Hopefully someone can put the information on the CMCA web site to highlight the great efforts of the boys and more importantly, highlight what a great feeding ground for young talent the CMCA is.

You always respect someone (irrespective of their ability or physical prowess) when they cross the line and take part and participate. It also highlights the many good things sporting clubs achieve which goes unnoticed. There are many clubs with a ‘Loius’ who are there every week and go unrecognised but are part of the various clubs. Well done to the Kookaburra’s and all in the CMCA.

Watching Michael Clarke yesterday reminded me of that season when George Gorozides backed up with 141 and 263 n.o in consecutive games and ended the season with an average of 136.8 from six innings with a total of 684 runs. Halcyon days for the Hoops.

Finally I cannot go past the mercurial Jimmy Olson.
Out Moorabbin way, a bloke by the name of Mark Missen was being feted for his performance with the ball, having taken all 10 wickets while opening the bowling for Hampton United firsts in a match against Cluden. In fact, it was only by a freak of nature that skipper Missen even took the new ball. Michael Hutchins usually bowls first change but before the game he was helping bang the stumps in and hurt his back and had to withdraw from the match. A modest Missen, who finished with 10-27 off 24.1 overs, told the Frankston Standard Pots Shots column not only did he surprise himself by the performance but reckons the opposition batsmen were probably shocked, too. He said: "I've heard batsmen say, 'He won't deceive you with his pace, but he will deceive you with his slowness.'

Would you prefer 263 n.o or a 10fa?

Played with and against both of these two true Gentlemen of the game.
Both of these achievements are fantastic.
Two greats of the CMCA.

Mackie & The Royals continue to confound the doubters and win. Juggernaut have some work ahead of them to try and grab a top two spot. Uniting just keep marching on with a convincing outright demolition of the Cowboys. They have an opportunity to beat up on the Mackie ‘pups’ in the 20/20 match on Tuesday. Could be an interesting encounter ahead of their Round 7 meeting.

Round 6 Selections: Longmuir

Brighton Union v East Sandringham Boys Club
West Bentleigh v Bentleigh ANA
Chelsea Heights v Carnegie South:
Mackie v Kingston Heath
Le Page Park v Washington Park
Elwood v Bentleigh Uniting

Juggernaut cannot afford to drop another game and their opposition know this, so they will have added pressure to deal with.
Danger game for Mackie as they have dropped these games in the past.
De Haan-v- Uniting will be a fascinating encounter.
Panthers to get their first win for the season.

Round 6 Selection: Woolnough

Washington Park v Moorabbin West
Bentleigh Uniting v Omega
Highett West v Hampton Central
Hampton United v Aspendale Gardens
East Sandringham Boys Club v Cluden
Bentleigh ANA v West Bentleigh

Round 6 Selection: Woolnough

Moorabbin West

Bentleigh ANA

Brighton Union v East Sandringham Boys Club
West Bentleigh v Bentleigh ANA
Chelsea Heights v Carnegie South
Mackie v Kingston Heath
Le Page Park v Washington Park
Elwood v Bentleigh Uniting

Brighton Union v East Sandringham Boys Club - Too much depth for Union's lack of depth
West Bentleigh v Bentleigh ANA - Cowboys can't score more than 120 which won't be enough
Chelsea Heights v Carnegie South - Carnegie have been making too many runs for the Heights to match
Mackie v Kingston Heath - a game Mackie must win to stay up there
Le Page Park v Washington Park - Le Page must turn things around if they are are to avoid relegation
Elwood v Bentleigh Uniting - Too strong, but it will be interesting to see how they handle the Elwood's spin twins

Longy
ANA. Playing well, winning close ones. Confidence is up.
Spiders. Looks like they've got the batting strength to match their bowling.
Mackie. Playing well. However Nuwan is due for a big one, and may have turned the corner with the 50 he made in the T20.
Le Page. Not with the greatest of confidence, but they need to get one on the board and soon.
Uniting. Playing well, and doing what they need to be doing.
Juggernaut. Too strong.

Woolnough.
Wests. A close game.
Us. A good win last week. A good challenge this round.
Centrals. Bowling should be too stong.
Aspendale. Could be an upset if Belly gets away.
Cluden. A 50/50 proposition.
ANA. As above.
