Seeing as our friends at the BMM don't know too much about the District Comp, here's a District First XII choice for season 2009/10 - in batting order:

1. Rob Dennis (New City)
2. Mark Doolan (Barnawartha/Chiltern)
3. Chris Dishot (Barnawartha/Chiltern)
4. Ash Sutherland (Kiewa - captain)
5. Mark Purtell (New City)
6. Alistair Randell (Mt Beauty - vice captain)
7. Luke Daly (Howlong)
8. Luke Bartley (New City - w/keeper)
9. Cameron Furze (New City)
10. Kori Stevenson (Wodonga Raiders)
11. David Baude (New City)

12. Sam Lowcock (Bethanga)

Would love to see both District and Provincial Rep sides face each other as an annual event - would create a very healthy and interesting rivalry.
Any thoughts?
Didn't Luke Bartley play third grade before moving to New City? I think it's fair to say that team would struggle against most Provincial teams, let alone a rep outfit.

Re: Cricket Albury/Wodonga 2009/10 Part 2

Anyone involved in cricket in this region is aware of the apparant gap between the quality of cricket being played between Prov and District, but the idea here is to acknowledge those who made an impact in the District comp this year.
Whether or not the team named would hold up against one of the "powerhouses" of CAW, let alone a nominated rep team, it sure would be an interesting concept - if not only to just gauge the difference and determine whether the relegation/promotion system is a worthwhile concept.
It would also allow those who play their cricket in the lower comp to have a crack at a team from the comp where they aspire to play.
Given the country week results and the current position of our representative side, perhaps an in house hit out would be a healthy annual attraction - for both comps under the CAW banner.

Re: Cricket Albury/Wodonga 2009/10 Part 2

It may prove an interesting concept but the gap between the two comps may prove an embarrasing score line that would do nothing but confirm the gap in standards. Plus when would the game be played? As far as players aspiring to play Prov, if they were good enough and wanted to play Prov, they would be there now. There are enough teams struggling in the Prov comp that would gladly take on talent from District, if it was there to take.

It wont be a surprise if half the New City team change teams and remain in the District comp, they are the smart ones that know what they would be in for week in week out next year, and although teams don't mind being beaten, being non competitive is just not fun for an entire season.

Re: Cricket Albury/Wodonga 2009/10 Part 2

Rod Bartons

Dave Costello

* The game could be played around Christmas, 50/50 on a Sunday for example
* An embarrassing scoreline - only one way to find that out
* good enough to play Prov, they'd be there now - not everyone's a shirt collector, some blokes actually enjoy playing for THEIR club
* gladly take on talent, if it was there - what's the view like from up there mate?
* half of New City changing teams = the smart ones - or perhaps the older blokes who have stated for some time that they will only play District level. Let em sort their own club out, good luck to em for earning promotion and good luck to the blokes sticking with it and testing themselves.
* being non competitive for a season is just not fun - talk to blokes that have been through this for a number of seasons and get a gauge on their motivational levels and passion for their club and the game.

As I mentioned earlier, just tried to generate some interest with a District team of the year list; didn't realise there was such disregard for the comp and the blokes that pay subs to CAW to play in it.

Well a game between PROV and DISTRICT would be great to see. The game could be played at lavi( depending what's on at the LPO ) one year and then a district ground the next.Picking the sides would be hard but I'm sure district would be fine.It may be hard for the provie players to lower themselfs to play for fun.:D In the end we all play under CAW through all grades and we should all get along on the field and off the field.

With New City going up next season they will add a fair bit of age to Prov. I bet every club is working overtime recuirting for next season.Let's see who goes where !!!!!!! Just wondering how Albury Titans will fair in the off season. Best of luck in the off season.

Or Brendan Simmons,Josh Marmo & Aaron Boyle. I'd swap those 4 with Hansford, Wilson, Rheinberger & Kadaoui

Yeah Joe may be abit stiff but if ya look at it ya cant put a player in just for playin 12 games in one year, and obviously seeing where his at now his good enough to be in
Marmo - most inconsistant player going around
Boyle - Was used at north as more of a bowler, didnt take many wickets scored a couple runs but almost the same reason as marmo
Simmons - could quiet easily be in, and dont have any excuse not to have him in. . .
the more i think about it you could have another list of 4 or 5 to try and fit in, aydan + kade brown both could bat bowl field, and with flags
steve mcclennan - terrific bowler in his prime, also won a flag
andy hill - very good fast bowler

more thoughts??

Re: Cricket Albury/Wodonga 2009/10 Part 2

Anyone heard the latest on Cupido? Apparently he signed with two or three different football clubs before he signed with North Albury so I reckon CAW clubs will be a bit wary about offering dollars.

Have heard that New City and Lavington have both spoken to him. Any other news???

Always amazed that people post things on a site designed for discussion, and as soon as someone says something that is not what an individual wants to hear, it becoames personal.

Read your previous comments, YOU stated that there is a massive gap in between the two comps and that there are players that aspire to play in the stronger comp....well those guys need to go to the stronger prov clubs to gain that experiance required. I would never have a crack at any club or comp, good luck to all those that play 1's, 2's, 3's or the Pub comp....but facts are facts, so stop taking comments so personally or don't bother posting!

Fair enough bloke, just strongly disagreed with a few things you said - I'm sure I'll get over it:). Back to the cricket, heard on the grapevine that New City were considering submitting a team for District A as well as provincial - depending on what Baranduda were going to do. Be interesting to see what becomes of this, at least they'll probably retain most of their team from last season. Anyone heard any news on Baranduda's fate?

your rite wizards, theirs would be a tough team of decade to pick...let alone play against.

in batting order: BARTON, FARRELL, JONES, SIMMONS, L. ANDERSON, DANIEL, COSTELLO, LADE, WILSON, D.ANDERSON, PRESTON . 12TH A. BOYLE (andy hill very stiff also peterson and elliott.

Re: Cricket Albury/Wodonga 2009/10 Part 2

Well New City have picked up Cupido. Just wondering why he isn't playing for North. Maybe it's the same old story that footy and cricket clubs don't mix.?? Or will he change his name to Neville ? So has any other clubs picked up big names yet? Will Baranduda survive is also another big question? What will happen at Albury?

Well Albury has picked up Josh Marmo and given him the captaincy. Big move considering he didn't want the gloves last year and barely scored any runs for North. And as far as having the cricketing brain and maturity to be able to skipper and lift a struggling side.....well time will tell but he recons Albury have some surprise signings already.

As far as Cupido, one would guess who ever offered him the best cash was all he was ever going to look at....bit of a shame because there are some excellent players in the CAW who play for the love of the game and with their mates and could easily earn cash elsewhere.

Will certainly be intesting to see who plays for who later in the year.

Marmo captain of Albury??? How long before he drops his head after a couple of bad performances?

How will Raiders go this year only just missed out on a grand final although they would have been no match for Newcity, they were the benchmark! Will Purta stay on with Newcity?
