Cricket balls and ribs

Re: Cricket balls and ribs

Been there mate, just settle in for the long haul - as far as I know when you get one in the ribs there's not a lot that can be done.

Re: Cricket balls and ribs

Poor you... ice, rest and ibuprofen I'm afraid.

Keep an eye on it though in case you have more damage than just a bruise. If in doubt post a photo.

Hope you're feeling better soon... body armour next time ;)

Re: Cricket balls and ribs

Will do, it doesn't feel too bad this morning, just a decent bruise forming and some a bit of discomfort.

The body armour is an idea but I think using the bat would be better! :p

Re: Cricket balls and ribs

Well my first response was "Move quicker", but I thought that was a tad insensitive... just a tad :D

It is not unusual to crack a few ribs so it sounds like you didn't do too badly!

Re: Cricket balls and ribs

Luckily, it wasn't from one of the quicks, more a medium fast pace (well for the standard I play).

I'll blame playing on 2 different surfaces (difference in bounce and pace was quite a lot) in 2 days for my lack of movement and not a lack of talent.

Re: Cricket balls and ribs

Sounds nasty, had a kid break two of his ribs late last year after he misjudged a bouncer. Thought he was ok at first until he started having problems with his breathing about 20 mins later.

No lasting damage but it cause a bit of pain for a few weeks.

Re: Cricket balls and ribs

I'm proud to say the worst I've done is get hit in the box by a medium pacer (still hurt heaps!) in the nets then get hit in the right thigh (the one without a thigh pad) by the 2nd quickest bowler the next ball. Haha ouch. But I'm also proud to say I was the talking point of the juniors one training session, when I was bowling to this gun u12 guy, hit him in the thigh, beat him with swing, and he got this massive bruise there, and I forced him to buy a thigh guard, ha.

All the best AA.

Re: Cricket balls and ribs

yeah cricket balls and any body part dnt mix well..

hit in the thigh MANY of times, hit in the box a few aswell, forearms and wrists. all hurt like hell... oh yeah and the nose broken in 2 places from a bouncer.. forgot that one ;)...

hope all is gettin or already is better A_A..

maybe a "where are they now" post wouldnt go a stray :p

Re: Cricket balls and ribs

Ribs are ok now, bruising has gone and everything seems to be back to normal.

Probably what I needed as it's got my footwork going again.

Re: Cricket balls and ribs

I wouldn't say improved so much, more back to where it was before (which wasn't that great tbh) :D

Come dancing probably wouldn't be the best option for me.

Re: Cricket balls and ribs

I've found that rubbing this cream called 'arnicare' heals bruising and reduces swelling really well. I'm currently using it on my thumb after misjudging a catch in training, it swelled up like half an inch and it was purple for at least a few days! :D
