Darwin & District Cricket - 2010

Re: Darwin & District Cricket - 2010

Waratah Cricket Club are set to forfeit another couple of matches in their lower grades this week. Meaning their legitimacy in the competition seriously comes into question. With no juniors and no replacements for last years imports, also losing several key seconds players has really placed them under the pump.

Re: Darwin & District Cricket - 2010

Spent a lot of money last year. Maybe this is one of the consequences of too many eggs in one basket? I hope you are watching Tigers! At least Tahs got a flag out of it, but at what cost?
As for their legitimacy in the comp - they've still got more teams in than Uni and somehow Uni stay in. Let's not forget that only five or six years ago Uni promised to have a Premier Grade side. Instead they have gone backwards and don't even run a B Grade side.

Re: Darwin & District Cricket - 2010

We put a huge amount of effort into a T20 day at TVCC a couple of years ago, (special on ground marquees, music courtesy of Jack Flynn, giveaways, food etc), and virtually nobody turned up. It was widely promoted but sadly not widely supported. I'm not sure of the answer, but I think planning it on two long weekends in a row was always destined to draw a moderate response.

Re: Darwin & District Cricket - 2010

This is where your wrong Lord Vader. Tigers still have a Junior base while obtain some quality recruits. Tigers have the same two imports from last season which one of them is in his third season plus two bowlers, then the SACA deal came in.

This is one more than last year which the Tigers cam last. They have found the right balance this year and local lads have stood up when needed. This years run chases would have ended in end bad for the tiger last year, but chased down 140 odd, 177 and fell a little behind the eight ball in making 180 odd chasing 212, so signs are better already.

with 7-8 junior sides and about 40-50 at their first In2cricket night last week tigers are in great shape, regardless of what happens in the Seniors this year.

Re: Darwin & District Cricket - 2010

Strangely enough, that's good to hear! I don't think anybody wants to see any clubs fold, no matter how much you may despise them! (Even Tahs!). A solid junior base is just so important so I fear Waratahs troubles run quite deep. Then again, weren't we talking about this maybe five years ago when the Tahs Social Club nearly went under? Not a new theme and they keep finding ways to survive.

Tracy Village v Nightcliff - Tracy Village Oval

Round three sees the potential for the season to start slipping away for several clubs. Darwin and Waratah play each other in a must win game. After two poor performances, the Eagles need their senior players to step up while Tahs will be relying on the same to get them the points. Hartney is out for Darwin. Should be a real test for both sides, Darwin should get their first win on the board.

Palmerston win here and they can start pencilling themselves in for the OD final. After a tight match with Tracy Village and an inform Short, the Power should be able to take care of PINT who are coming back from a week off. PINT have lost Mitchell and Brown which should see their bowling and batting depth severely tested. Palmerston should be able to roll over them unless Lavers produces something special.

Nightcliff travel to an unhappy hunting ground against nemesis Tracy Village. After being tested last week by an inept Darwin, they'll need to be switched on against the Villagers. SACA recruit Cranmer was reported for the Tigers last week and will more than likely receive a slap on the wrist. Village are chance if they get early wickets, otherwise they'll need to set a big total against the strongest bowling attack in the competition. Nightcliff to be too strong.

Oops...The hapless Tigers have rarely enjoyed playing at the Death Star! ;)

How old is young MacKenzie that played for the senior side on the weekend? Batted about 7 i think?

No not good to see clubs fold but like you said too many eggs in one basket. Yes they do seem to hang in there so hope they can pull through as there are still some good people there.

16, turns 17 later in the year i think. Also James Dix is 15 who played Sunday's T20 and took 3 for and then backed up in the Final Monday for another two wickets.

Yeah good "loyal" kids:

both start back in the under 11's. Jason Hatton was Kyle's first coach so it's a proud moment i guess when you see these boys coming through and play A Grade.

5-6 years of hard work from previous and current committee is playing off. Very rewarding.

I completely disagree with the summary of that day.

Re: Darwin & District Cricket - 2010

Round 4 - Saturday 8th May
Waratah v BYE
Palmerstonv Darwin - Woodroffe Oval
PINT v Tracy Village - Marrara (1)
Nightcliff v Southern Districts - Nightcliff Oval

Palmerston can pretty much cement a spot in the OD Final by defeating Darwin at home this week. SACA recruit Tom Brinsley is in for the Eagles which should strengthen their middle order. Palmerston bowling has been the discipline behind their success with their bats taking advantage of woeful PINT last week. Darwin need a win here to establish their credentials. Could be a run feast, Power are favourites but could go either way.

PINT are going to struggle and really need the Hodgson show to switch on if they're going to be a threat this season. Their top order lacks any form and will be severely tested by a hungry Village. TV on the other hand have come together as a solid unit, while Cachopa is an obvious stand out, their middle order is solid. TV with a convincing win.

Nightcliff should smash Districts at home but it maybe a little tougher than expected. Cranmer comes back for the Tigers after his week off while Districts middle order should be of note with Moffat and Redpath coming in. This will aptly support Richards, meaning they shouldn't be as big a push overs as in the early rounds. Their bowling still lacks fire power and will struggle with the Tiger's den. Tigers to reassert themselves on the competition.

Ken Skewes is also a maybe for Southern Districts, though this is up in the air/rumour.

Weekend's write up - Dolman spins Eagles to big win over Power | Northern Territory News | Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia | ntnews.com.au

Ladder - W - L
1. Palmerston - 3 - 1
2. Nightcliff - 3 - 1
3. Darwin - 2 - 2
4. PINT - 2 - 1
5. Tracy Village - 1 - 2
6. Waratah - 1 - 2
7. Southern Districts - 0 - 4

Because Palmerston lost on the weekend, the One Day Final is still wide open. The top four could all virtually finish on 4 wins 2 losses meaning bonus points will play a massive part and should do regardless as the two favourites Nightcliff/Palmerston play off in round 7, leaving an opening for Darwin, PINT and TV.

Re: Darwin & District Cricket - 2010

Round 5 - Saturday 15th May
Palmerston v BYE
Darwin v Southern Districts - Kahlin Oval
PINT v Nightcliff - Marrara (1)
Waratah v Tracy Village - Gardens Oval

Darwin need a big win to keep their OD Final hopes alive. Taking on Districts at home, a score of 250+ is required on currently the best batting wicket in town. Districts are still looking to kick start their season and will be looking at Richards and Moffat to deliver. Pemble needs another big game with the ball if they're any chance but Darwin have started to put it together and should be looking for the extra points.

PINT are still well in the hunt for the OD Final and a victory against the Tigers would almost seal it with Waratah and Districts to come in the last of the OD rounds. Nightcliff need to do the same, with a bye and Palmerston to come, a loss this weekend would put their hopes of a triple threat in doubt. Could be a close contest with PINT starting to show some batting form, but Tigers should win.

A struggling Waratah take on Tracy Village in which could come down to the form bat in each side. The only century men of the season so far, Tahs and TV will rely heavily on Gardiner and Cachopa to set a defendable total. If either side can win the next three rounds, they're still a chance of the OD Final however unlikely that is. The Villagers should win due to an all-round bowling attack but Tahs strength is their batting and with South Australian Isiah Borgas coming in, it will push an inconsistent TV.
