Darwin & District Cricket - 2013

Great start to the season for some and terrible for others depending which side of the scoreboard you stand. I can't remember a season where so many high scores have been tallied this early. Tells me that there is a fair gap between the top and bottom sides and/OR due to an early finish in wet season rains that wickets are receptive to quality one day cricket. The next month should have some interesting games when the top teams clash.

Well the top three teams currently play each other in the next three games, with Darwin and Tahs likely to strength up further in the next month, that gap may close a little if the other teams get some wins under their belts against each other.

Darwin still looking like the team to beat with one day cricket. They seem to have a definite strategy that works for them. 3-in-a-row?

Pretty early to talk about that, whoever loses this weekend between Tahs and PINT, Darwin will have to beat to ensure they are a chance to defend the title. BOM is also predicting rain this weekend.

On a seperate note, if umpire abuse is so prevalent that it is causing umpires to leave the game, why has there not been any suspensions recently over this? Have I missed them?

Think the system is broken.

No news on T20 competition as of yet.

A player forum will be held in Darwin and Alice in about three to four weeks regarding the Super League, players are invited to nominate for this. Calder Shield will be held the last two weekends in July, with the squad of players from this likely to be the initial Strike squad.

Captains and umpires meeting tonight.

Serious question time - cause everybody here loves Tracy Village.

Will they exist in the foreseeable future.
Their A's and B's got pounded by the pie chuckers at Districts. A's had to get Richie to play, B's had only 10.
No C's, D's seem alright, E's aren't playing with full team. Only 13's in the junior comp.

Will take a long time to dig themselves out of this hole.

Not really sure anything can be done about it unless they chose to remove themselves, as there was a lack of a precedent set by allowing Tahs to continue on without any questions, so TV would expect the same leniency and period of time to re-establish their playing base. Though that could change if their B grade hit the skids like last year or if they started fielding short teams in both A's and B's.

Cool your jets fella. As Chips has said, a precedent has been set in the past. Let's not get all high and mighty because another club is struggling. I have been critical of Tracy previously on this site regards their views on player recruitment in the recent past but surely we don't want to lose a team out of the comp.

They might struggle for a little while but shouldn't we see if they can get their house in order before we put them in the gallows?

Wasn't talking about them getting kicked out of the comp, that won't happen as per Waratah.
More so them imploding upon themselves. Generally in times of need former players get back involved to help out and clubs seek others wherever they can find them but it doesn't seem to be happening here as numbers are still dwindling.

NTIS will be a seriously bad side now that they take so many young players. Will they draw the Carbone's away from their current clubs for the comp to add some strength?

On the TV issue;

I was at Tahs during the shambolic 2010 season where its a very similar situation to TV. We were in a better position that TV are in atm. IMO TV main priority for the rest of this season is to be competitive in all the cricket they play and keep a hold of all the U13 they have. Ask junior coaches to tell their juniors to get there mates invovled in cricket and the cricket club and start rebuilding the foundations of the club from the ground up again.

T20 Knockout Competition begins Sunday. NTIS have a team and will be captained by Tom Andrews.

Tim Coyle is in town for some NTIS coaching as well this week.
