Eca 2011/2012

Well it depends on who you speak to....If you were there Terry then its hard not to accept your version but i hear that the umpires put it to the captains. One captain very eager to start and one looking for excuses not to. Thats from some of the GI lads that stood around the pitch for 2 hours while these excuses were being made......anyway, whats done is done. Its been a terrific season thus far. Those that deserve to be, will be there next season as well.
I was not there and i haven't spoken to Laws about whether he wanted to play or not. I accept that he might not have wanted to play. My point is that the umpires need to grow a set and make the decision about when and if play should happen. There is not much on this situation but every year in finals when there is any rain at all one captain (not surprisingly always the one who finished higher on the ladder) who doesn't want to play and the other captain (lower on the ladder) that does. The umpires should make the decision and not even ask the captains.

Terry, the most sensible comment on this site for some time. Well said.

We deserve to go down. We haven't played to our potential and we have no excuses. No real need for the bitchy comments though Handbreak. Good first contribution from you. Doesn't take a real lot of guts to make calls like that on anonymous forums. On other issues there is nothing wrong with our ground and deck. Plenty of runs have been made there this year. As far as the weekend is concerned the umpires make the decision about whether play starts or happens at all. Nothing to do with us.

I agree that bitchy comments don't achieve anything, but having played at KBO many times it's not good Terry, it's not even close to good. You guys do an excellent afternoon tea and enjoy a beer, but I would not try to defend the ground conditions. Just my opinion.

I agree, but it will never happen while the umpires are credentialed the way they are. They'll keep bending over for the captains because the captains write the report that determines IF they get finals and WHERE.

I accept your opinion and agree that our ground (especially the outfield) has been ordinary at times. But I would suggest that if you looked at stats not a lot of really low scores are made there. Our outfield has been better this year now we are allowed to water the ground again. I think the criticism is a bit of a beat up by the leafy green eastern suburbs set. That is my opinion.

That might be because your bowling hasn't been 100% and your batting has performed much better than your bowling.

Could be a very big last round in Dunstan. Two of the top three sides could lose this week along with clubs on the fringe doing well. Also a very nervous Bulleen. Also multiple clubs in the hunt for the 4th spot in A grade.

- Marcellin win and Bulleen lose. Marcellin go above the drop zone
- Ashy, MA, GI, Deepdene win and St Kevs lose the top 6 will roughly go like this

Deepdene 49
GI 43
St Kevs 39
Ashy 39
Hawthorn 39
MA 36

GI vs Ashy (winner will def make finals - but loser might also if Hawthorn or Skevs slip)
Boronia vs RC (that has to be the biggest road trip in the last round, horrible, especially going there knowing that it will be your last game in Dunstan! - this game has no outcome on the ladder IMHO)
Mulgrave vs Deepdene (Deepdene should win this week and be fine for finals, just depends on where they finish)
Skevs vs ED (Skevs MUST win, especially after I'm tipping them to get done this week!)
Bulleen vs Mont Albert (Can't see MA sneaking into finals, and Bulleen will be in the zone after this round)
Hawthorn vs Marcellin (Haw must win and do it themselves, don't leave it up to other results)

Great that 5/6 games will have an affect on both finals and relegation.

So I've spent a few minutes going through it all and assuming Bob Tomko is right about this week's results, it looks as though the top 4 will stay as it is, outrights aside.

Deep have got Ashy in the last round which they would expect to win and if they do, it keeps Ashy out, but if Ashy win they should stay in with their %. Hawthorn have got Marcellin which should be an easy one for them (however after the weekend's score of 281 who knows?) and a win will keep them in if Ashy lose. If Ashy and Hawthorn both win, Ashy will go ahead of them on % and Hawthorn will finish 5th. Skevs have got ED which really should be a win for them and keep them in. The only other chance is MA who would have to beat Boronia and chasing down 240 is a big ask then they'd have to beat Bulleen AND HOPE that Ashy AND Skevs or Hawthorn lose, which is highly unlikely. In all probability the 4 will stay as it is now with points like this:

Deepdene 55
GI 49
Skevs 45
Haw 45
---------------------
MA 42
Ashy 39

The relegation battle would really heat up if Marcellin hold out Mulgrave, with Bulleen then having to beat MA to stay up and MA having to beat them to possibly get in. What a game that could be for both sides. If Marcellin win and Bulleen beat MA, it also brings Mulgrave and Boronia back into the relegation fight.

Good luck to all teams and may my team win.

Perhaps you should assume GI will only get a draw against RC this week. There is rain about on Friday and we know how good their covers are and their reluctance to actually wanting to play cricket. Last week they had nothing to loose except pride and everthing to win (respect) but chose not to play. I am told the umpires would of allowed play had both captains agreed. Maybe they can stave off relegation to B grade with Canterbury next season.

Is it just me or is this whole thing riddled with errors?

No1 Deepdene don't play Ashy
No2 Marcellin don't play Mulgrave

Oh &^$@ it, I'll leave it you guys. The big story for me is Bulleen possibly going down if Marcellin beat Mully this week. That would genuinely shock me. What is going on down there?
