Re: England v Sri Lanka

Game on for Sri Lanka again with the loss of Prior - England were looking comfortable to some extent.

As Fergie puts it - squeaky bum time for England. Personally, I'd put Hoggard in before Sidebottom in this situation.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

What ive heard its heavy downpours tomorrow, what a crap tour by england they've barely won a session and been greatly outclassed. We can take very little from this.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

We can take a lot from watching how Sri Lanka have played. Occupying the crease, hitting the right areas when bowling and generally playing professional cricket.

England really need to look at the scheduling of tours, incorporate proper preparation, adequate rest time and avoid playing right up to xmas when it's obvious that the players would rather be back home with their family.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

I missed the post Lunch session, but it seems that England played really well during that time. Sri Lanka are just two wickets away from a victory. They seem the favorites at the moment. Just 15 overs are remaining so England can still save the game if they keep Murali out.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

England escaped with a draw but they were outplayed in this match. The only gain from this match would be Alastair Cook's century.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

england are in a lot of trouble they need to play another 10 overs. sidebottom was very unlucky. there was a big inside egde.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

Game over and I can go to bed for an hour lol.

A fair fight back by England but the loss of early top order wickets cost them dearly. If we'd had one more proper batsman then we may have sneaked it. Even scoring an extra 40 runs in the 1st innings would have changed the game.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

All over for England. It was a very entertaining Test match. England could have done with a bit of luck going their way. Bell played very well, was probably beaten by the 2nd new ball not spinning as much as he anticipated. A historic win for Sri Lanka with Murali breaking the world record and Jayasuriya's retiring in the same match. Sangakkara should be the man of the match; his innings changed the match on his head.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

sri lanka played better cricket from the the 2nd innings of the match. sidebottom was very unlucky with both bat and ball though. bell's batting was good in both innings.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

this was an awesome match. probably the only entertaining test in a while. the match was with england on the first day then sri lanka bounced back murali taking wickets on the second day. england got a good lead on the third day but with sangakkaras 150, sri lanka turned the tables. then england bounced back again with bell and prior playing so well only to fall against murali with the second new ball.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

good match, had up and down from day1 but the better players in sri lanka took the edge. sidebotom was unlucky that was a big edge onto the legpads.

looks like being a good series so i am looking towards the next game

Re: England v Sri Lanka

Sidebottom was absolutely robbed! We were unlucky to lose the match but just didnt apply ourselves battingwise. Ravi Bopara batted well in the second innings for someone on test debut.

England need to go out all guns blazing in the next game, an onfire harmison would be useful :).

Come on England!

Re: England v Sri Lanka

I'm not kidding, my college work totally stopped today, especially the Bell/Prior bit, it was facinating.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

I really thought we had saved the match but then Murali find something extra with the new ball. Sidebottom was robbed but then again if the top order had done their job it wouldn't have mattered so much.

No Hoggard for the next test so it's a chioce out of Broad, Harmison or Swann. Each have their pros and cons but I guess England will go with Harmison.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

i heard from the commentary that the wether is not good in colombo so 1 or 2 days can be washed out.....its bad news for england because then thy wont get chance to win the series if the next match is draw.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

Close test, could have gone either way at the end. England will take some heart from keeping Murali out for 30 odd overs on a final day track but worries will still persist.

I think we need to have a look at the make up of the side as loosing Hoggard is a big blow as he's the one bowler who can seemingly perform in all conditions (unlike when he first came into the team).

I'm in favour of bringing Board in, as he'll offer pace and bounce and should be a bit more mentally robust than Harmison. He should also be less injury prone.

There is also the potential to bring in Swann but I think Panesar will be fine as the only spinner.

Batting wise it's still a straight choice between Bopara and Shah (for now).

Re: England v Sri Lanka

I wouldn't like Harmison in the England squad, he's far too inconsistant, i'd like to see Broad in there.

Did i hear right? Hoggard blames Moores for his increasing injury proneness?

Re: England v Sri Lanka

I cant see us playing 2 spinners with Anderson and Sidebottom supporting them, its simply not a goodenough attack to play 2 seamers with out hoggy. I wouldnt mind Harmy or Broad as im a big fan of both of them.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

Sanga no.1 in the world. What do people think? His records show hes a lot better as batsmen only, but with him being a top class WK, who reckons Sri Lanka should play him as a batsmen, or WK Batsmen?

Re: England v Sri Lanka

Gearing up for the second test and it seems that England will go with Harmison. Could be a master stroke or a very expensive mistake.

3 years ago he would have been a shoe in, just shows how far his stock has fallen.

kallis is still number 1 for me......sangakara got 2 double 100 against bangladesh....but he is playing very well against australia and england too.
england need some good plan against him because he is only batsman making big runs.
